  1. Although he'll be 27 at the end of the season he should be considered a relatively young pitcher due to so many early career injuries. His major league K rate is equal to his minor league career rate. It's not unusual for an inexperienced pitcher to struggle with walks early in his major league career. Especially a lefty. I expect the walk rate to improve as the season progresses.
  2. I thought Doug should have done it last winter--buy out the arby years plus one extra year plus an option year.
  3. Maybe until he's up for good they could just play that lyric, "one foot in the door, the other one in the gutter"...
  4. Can you be so tired that you forget how to recite the alphabet? It's not just the blood alcohol level....people who drink a lot can appear completely sober at levels high above the legal limit. It's quite likely if Tony was struggling with the alphabet with a BAL of .093 that he just doesn't drink to excess much. A light drinker can appear sloshed at the legal limit whereas a full blown drunk can down a 12 pack in an hour and appear fine. In short, Tony may be a rank amateur who couldn't survive the Maple Leaf parade at La Crosse's Oktoberfest.
  5. I've never been sure about this: is it against the rules to sit in a different seat than your ticket? I understand if the the ticket holder shows up you are obligated to move, but let's say halfway through the game a chunk of a section gets up and leave. Can you go sit there?
  6. Wow does that ever take me back! My first game at County Stadium was in 1985 against the Orioles. A buddy of mine and I went on a road trip from Iowa to see the Cubs-Mets in Wrigley and the Brewers-Orioles the next night at County Stadium. At the time my buddy was a a Mets fan and I was a big Orioles fan. We sat in this beer vendor's section, behind the visiting dugout. He was a lot fun and the entire section just rocked. Everyone was really friendly and having a good time. People gave me a hard time for being an O's fan, but it was all in good fun. I was surprised how knowledgeable many of the Brewer fans were about the Orioles. After this experience I started following the Brewers more and tried to get to a game every year. By contrast, we were crucified in Wrigley for cheering the Mets. One guy even shoved my friend. Very mean, agressive crowd. Kind of the impression I've had of Chicago my whole life. I could never be a Cubs fan, though I've always enjoyed going to White Sox games. Thanks for bringing back such great memories. That beer vendor was the best!
  7. I watched the Orioles-Royals game on MLB last night. I figured their broadcasts would be picking up one of the team's regional sports networks. But they had Victor Rojas and Dan Plesac doing the PbP. I like Plesac on the studio show, and his comments were well thought out during the game, but his voice was like a drone. They might have been picking up the MASN feed and just adding their own graphics. Maybe an extra camera. At one point they cut for split second to Gary Thorne doing a stand up in the booth, then back out to a wide shot of the field. All in all a pretty good job though. They are carrying live games on most Saturday nights as well. MLB network is the overriding reason I didn't get ExtraInnings this summer after having it for 4 years. Well, that and the fact my wife has been laid off from 2 jobs in the past 8 months!
  8. He can't afford to go to the games anymore.
  9. Well you must be right. I can't find anything to refute your point. Just seems like last September I read September call ups don't count against something--just can't remember what it was! It makes sense they would get credit for service time; this affects when/if they qualify for pensions. I could see it has no effect on Super 2 status though. Here's Keith Law: http://baseballanalysts.c...08/death_taxes_and_1.php
  10. I don't think September call ups count as major league service time.
  11. Is it possible there is something wrong with Hardy and Counsell may be playing for ss for the next several games? This scenario would justify bringing in Gamel. Otherwise I would have held onto Nelson through the Minnesota series. A couple games at DH and he might have started hitting. Then you're only a week away from Cat being ready to join the team.
  12. Good luck to him. He earned his way onto the roster this Spring and the Brewers deserve kudos for giving him a chance. Maybe he never got a true shot to do something, but even with a small sample, at some point you have to get a hit. Just a couple hits and he would still probably be on the team.
  13. Well, I just did what I shoulda done in the first place, googled it. Although there is nothing on DirecTV's website, there are several sites out there letting people know it was a free preview from the 8th -12 of May. Sheesh, they might have let me know! I'm registered on their site and they have my email and phone number! I guess I'm just a schlub after all. No special deal as it turns out.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  14. OK, that explains it I guess. I haven't checked today but if youse mugs had it too and now it's gone, that must be what was happening with my service. The fact they didn't tell anyone makes me think it was some kind of mistake, not a planned promotion. I've had free weekend promotions before, but the always go away at midnight Sunday.
  15. Yeah, maybe, but usually they advertise such things. Maybe someone else out there with DirecTV knows more about this/???
  16. Giving Kendall every 5th day off will give him 30+ days off. I hope Macha at least sticks to this plan.
  17. Excellent work! Bravo! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Toronto is the team I feel most sorry for in the current configuration. In either Central division they would have been good enough to compete for a playoff spot most of this decade.
  19. Ok, I don't know if this is related or not to my complaints, but.....I'm now getting HBO and Cinemax! I checked my account online and nothing's changed with the billing or my programming. But somebody flipped a switch and is giving me 11 pay movie channels for free. My daughter says we're getting other channels we never got before too, but I haven't checked that all out. Last September they gave me all the Showtime channels for free for a year because I "was such a good customer". Maybe this is a mistake or coincidence or they're just trying to do something they can to help out a disgruntled customer. If it's the latter, then I am impressed once again with DirecTV.
  20. Oh, now that there is funny! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  21. That sealed the deal for me. This isn't 1953. You don't have the same catcher for the entire double header.
  22. Wow, all my favorite unsung lefty bats are ending up in Milwaukee:Durham, Lamb, now, The Cat. His numbers have fallen badly the two years, especially on the road. Don't know how much is left, but if he can hit .750 OPS as a PH, that's pretty good. Can really only play LF and 1B. Hate to see them give up on Nelson, but maybe he'll stay in the organization. On the other hand, it could be McGehee that goes....with Counsell and Hall playing well, Casey has nowhere to play.
