  1. There are ads here? That took care of it. Thanks!
  2. Interesting there is a google ad at the top of this page for HGH.
  3. They do have an option for 2010 with Looper. Doug almost certainly will exercise that. Bad news is Looper can decline....
  4. He still can't lay off low outside sliders.
  5. I don't get it...you asked who had had the lowest batting average of a triple crown winner and the answer is F. Robby who hit .316 and not Yaz who hit .301? ???
  6. I agree. I suspect these hot head blow as many games as they win with their childish antics. Earl Weaver is the best manager ever in my opinion, but his tantrums were a sideshow. The guy won because he knew how to build a 25 man roster and how to get the most out of his players. He was also well prepared for every batter on the other team.
  7. Pretty good for a contending team to take a risk with Duffy, Nelson, and McGehee. They earned a shot, but the nature of contending is fringe players get a short lease.
  8. 2) Wrong 4) Wrong I tripped myself up on the "unanimously" bit. The Red Sox are holding an 8 game winning streak in the World Series currently....???
  9. I agree. Imagine if McGehee could actually hit a bit and play 2nd and 3rd competently. I'm hopeful he can be a cheap, quality 6th infielder for the next several years. I'd like to see him out there 4 games a week at 2nd until he proves he can't play or hit.
  10. Yost played the kids through good and bad to give them experience and see how good they could really be. One of the reasons it was time for him to go was because it's time for these guys to earn their playing time. Macha's job is to win this year, not be patient with players and hope they turn around. If Hart or Hall have weaknesses to their game then they should only get opportunities that minimize those weaknesses.
  11. 1)Frank Robinson is the only player to win MVP in both leagues. 2)Willie Hernandez 3)Rogers Hornsby 4)Red Sox 5)Hank Aaron, Craig Counsell, and Luis Lopez
  12. Go with McGehee and Counsell tonight. I don't care who plays 2nd or 3rd. DH Gamel. Saturday go with Hall at 3rd, Counsell at 2nd, Gamel, DH, Gerut in RF, Hart on the bench. Sunday, Gamel at 3rd, McGehee at 2nd, Gerut in LF, Braun DH. I like the idea of Cameron every day in CF in the Metrodome.
  13. I like one of the commentators said "this is why David Eckstein is one of the greatest players to ever play the game". Because he missed an infield pop fly?
  14. I love the Metro. It's safe, cheap, and easy. One big problem with DC, there is no great part of town. I spent several days there two summers ago, in a swanky hotel a couple blocks from the White House. DC is terrifying at night! And don't walk through any of the city parks...ever...night or day. Everyday I had to walk to a conference a few blocks to the city or civic center, whatever it was. There is a Subway and Starbucks at every corner. I had to literally step over sleeping people on the sidewalk every morning. On the way back in the evening the panhandlers latch onto you and won't let go. It's a disgrace for the capitol of what is supposedly the Greatest Nation in History. I took the Metro to a Nats game one night in old RFK stadium. It was a lot of fun and the crowd was rocking all night. Once again, though, a scary neighborhood. Best strategy was to stick with the Metro crowd and keep your eyes on the pavement when walking to and from the stadium. On the positive side, they do have a pretty good offense. 3rd in the league in runs scored/average/obp/slugging.
  15. Two nights ago they did a live look in just as the manager came out and changed pitchers. It was pretty funny and they had a good time mocking the timing of that one. It's pretty easy to do the live look in. They have people watching all the games and as soon as something looks like it could happen they go to it. Couple runners on base with a good hitter coming up? Cut to the game. Bases loaded, score tied? Cut to the game. Pujols coming up? Cut to the game. It may look contrived but when I had ExtraInnings all those years, I'd do essentially the same thing. Flip the channels until I saw something going on, then stay with it until the 3rd out.
  16. I think it's between the Tigers winning their first World Series and the modern MVP. I'll guess MVP award is most recent. Before that it was called Babe Ruth award or something right?
  17. Wow this looks like a great trade. I'm guessing San Diego wanted to save that $1.7 million.
  18. I can eliminate two of them: A's (1988-1990...maybe another time too as they've won 9 I think) and Cubs (1906-1908). That's all I've got.Orioles did from 69-71. I'll guess the Tigers.
  19. I hope they didn't go out and get a "lead off" hitter. or a two bagger.
  20. This is great news if he approves the trade. Bad for Twins fans, good for the White Sox and Brewers.
  21. I think its the same reason John Madden stuck around for so long: the networks are playing a prank on us. There is no accountability in sports media. They can make crap up all the time without any effort of thought, and because it's just sports no one really cares.
  22. He's always been a swing at pitch hacker. I never believed the hype when he came up. So I was stunned when he put together two good years. But that was in his mid 20's. Hacktastic hackers tend to peak early and decline fast. Hart might be next, but he's at least taking walks this year. He has half the walks already this year that he had in all of 2007. His obp is 86 points higher than his average. These are good signs he's at least trying to change his approach.
  23. That's beyond funny! I love it.
  24. I've come up with a lot of possible names so far, but none of them are right, I'm sure!
  25. Yo and Manny aren't even eligible for arbitration until 2011. In 2010 the Brewers are obligated to pay $38+ million right now. But in 2011 that number drops to $7 million. Hall, Suppan, and Riske have options that can be bought out. JJ is a free agent; Prince and Hart in 3rd arby year. Let's wait and see how Manny does this year before talk of any long term deal. I suppose they try a 5 year offer to Yo this winter, but that's a long time for a pitcher who will have had just one complete season. Locking up Bush for 3 more years with a 4th year option gives a 1-2-3 rotation of Yo, Manny, and Bush through 2013 with minimal investment. Bush's K:BB ratio was average last year, but it's back up to 3.45:1 so far this year. That's encouraging, small sample aside.
