  1. I was not aware that Choate had a minor league deal. I was thinking he had a Major League Deal. Wouldn't you guys still give him a look in the bullpen as the 2nd lefty though? I think I would and give Tavarez a nice pink slip and call it a day with him.
  2. To me the Twins are a step above the Cubs as far as fans, but not by much. They were being complete jerks after they won very luckily on Saturday and saying "Now we can sweep this garbage team" and such things like that, but I was glad to get back Sunday and see them have a nice quiet walk to their car and hopefully a very long drive back to Minnesota. Maybe it's just me, but I never have any problems with Cardinals fans, and I hate the Cardinals. But their fans come and respect our park and don't just try to take it over. That gains a lot of respect from me. One time I was at a Brewers vs Cards game and the Brewers had won the game and a Cards fan came up to me and said "Nice Ballpark and good luck on the season!" Could you imagine any Cubs or Twins fans ever saying anything of the sort? I'm not saying Brewers fans are any better at Wrigley or Minnesota, but I do know that Cubs and Twins fans are jerks when the come to Miller Park.
  3. Oh ok. I see. Yeah in that case, I totally agree in the irony. Although the addition of Branyan does help our lefty bat situation. Replacing Branyan with Gross and a Lefty power bat off the bench has been a huge upgrade.
  4. The key word you are missing is "Every Day" left hand at bats. Our only every day Left Handed bat is Prince, therefore, we have a shortage.
  5. I think your viewpoint is that I think Yost makes every correct decision and always the right move. Well let me tell you that you are mistaken. Yost makes mistakes. I thought it was stupid to bat Cameron at #2 from day one. I think it's stupid that Dave Bush is still in our rotation. I think Yost does a lot of stupid things, but you know the difference between me and Yost? Yost took a team from the bottom of baseball to a winning season and another 500 season. I didn't do that. So I realize that Yost makes a lot of "dumb" decisions, but I give him the benefit of the doubt because he knows baseball better than I do. And you know what? He knows baseball better than you do too! I completely blame Melvin and Yost for signing and how they handled Gagne, but for every mistake these guys make, they make a lot of good moves and and do a lot of good for our baseball team and a lot of people take that for granted around here. Anyways... Maybe McClung can be our Ryan Dempster!
  6. Not if he's pitching well for your team of rooting interest.
  7. I love how Twins fans were calling us a garbage team on the walk back to the car at Miller Park on Saturday when their team can't hit a home run if their life depended on it. Let's face it. The Twins got very lucky this series and the Brewers were 3 inches away from a 2/3 series victory. What a frustrating series. The better team lost, IMO.
  8. And there's no point in rushing Hardy back to the team because he's really not bringing much to the team offensively while Escobar has the potential to with the same if not better defense.
  9. I like that McClung tries to throw that Brandon Webb type sinking fastball where it has a lot of velocity and movement and it's very hard to get it off the ground if it is kept down. I'm not calling Seth anything close to Brandon Webb, but when he throws that pitch it has a similar effect.
  10. Yeah I'd definitely give Choate a shot over Stetter right now just because Stetter has an option to work with. If Choate fails, then you can think about calling Stetter and his 2.5 ERA up from AAA Nashville.
  11. It's hard to get a feel for how good Choate really is with a lot of inconsitency from him in the last few seasons but he does have a career 4.64 ERA in 165 career innings as a LOOGY. That seems fine for a 2nd lefty out of the pen.
  12. I remember a lot of posts back in April groaning about keeping McClung over Vargas on the roster and even more groans when we put McClung in the rotation. And what did we get? Nothing but production from Seth McClung. Although a small sample size as a starter, I am very satisfied with 4 out of 5 good starts. There is a lot yet to be seen with McClung, but let's at least admit that some of us were quick to jump on management for keeping this guy around. It shows that you can't teach velocity, and McClung definitely has that so let's see what the guy can do down the stretch for us because he could be the key to our success from here on out in the 2008 season.
  13. http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=762238 This could be a nice shot in the arm to the bullpen not to mention Gagne coming back prolly in a month or so. Our bullpen is holding up pretty well but having another lefty to go to in Choate and a nice pitcher in Riske available this should only help our chances to win games. I would send down DeFelice and end the Tavarez experiment when these guys come back.
  14. And also in 3rd place in the Wild Card standings. I'll look at this with the glass half full.
  15. Escobar is going to get called up anyways in September because he's already on the 40 man roster so why not let Hardy completely rest his shoulder and give AE a shot? The guy is on fire in Huntsville.
  16. I didn't get a chance to post this last night because I went out downtown after going to the game, but Counsell got yet another hit with the bases loaded yesterday. Is it getting to the point where we pinch hit him always with the bases juiced?
  17. It would be more rewarding to beat them when they are hot. If they were mangled I would have no mercy for them.
  18. I wasn't making a general rule about always wanting to play hot teams. That's where you are mistaken on my viewpoint. I was saying that beating the Cubs while they were hot would be more rewarding than beating a struggling team. The reason I want to play the Cubs is for the historical/cultural perspective. That is the general rule you can use since that's what it seems you are trying to form here. Trying to attack an opinion by forcing them into a general rule is a decent strategy, I guess.
  19. Lol. I want to play the Cubs because they are our biggest rival and for the reasons of my previous posts. I also have no mercy for them when they have injuries.
  20. It's part of that whole "rivalry" and "hate your opposing" team thing.
  21. No one? Really? I bet I will be. Especially to Cubs fans. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  22. That's looking at things from a pure numbers/robotic perspective. As a person who loves to talk sports and recall its history, I wouldn't look at it that way. Can you honestly say that beating the Phillies in a series would be exactly the same as beating the Cubs? If so, I respect that, but I'm just really far away from that viewpoint. The same reason I'd rather have more challenging tasks at work rather than easy ones. The benefits and rewards are way better if you conquer the bigger challenge. I was rooting for the Celtics to be in the NBA Finals and I am an avid Lakers fan. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I still think it was great to see history repeat itself and see the 2 greatest teams in NBA history play against each other. From a historical perspective, Brewers vs Cubs would be a lot bigger than any other series and would reap bigger rewards if we won. From a numbers perspective, you are very correct.
  23. Yes and if we beat a hot team like the Cubs and stopped their possible end to a 100 year drought that would be bigger than anything you just said.
  24. Could Braun be in the Home Run Derby without playing in the All-Star game?
