  1. Yeah I have no problem with Dillon getting starts in LF to give Braun a day off once in a while. That's fine. We have to have one of the best benches in the NL right now. Kapler, Dillon, Rivera, and Counsell fill in very well. Plus you have a disgruntled Bill Hall. Can anyone think of a team that has a more reliable bench at this point?
  2. Kapler is the perfect 4th OF right now so if it ain't broke why fix it? We all knew Cameron was going to strike out a lot when we signed him. Cameron is helping the team more than hurting it with his gold glove caliber defense. Heck, I'd even pick up Cameron's option for next year. It's amazing how much defense is undervalued. We are talking about Center field, here. A good CF can cut pitchers ERA by a good amount. Those of you wishing for an OF of Braun, Hart, LaPorta next year better be careful what you wish for. Cameron's bat will come around, and he's still hitting for power. There are bigger problems with this team than Mike Cameron.
  3. I wouldn't call many Suppan performances "dominant". I go more along the lines of "Getting the Job Done". Suppan relies on his defense heavily, but it seems that even his K's are a bit higher this year. I'd have to check his K rate though.
  4. Well the Brewers lost their Ace for 8 weeks in a critical part of the season last year. If the Cubs lost Zambrano for 8 weeks, then the lead they have now is nothing.
  5. Is 8 GIDP's considered a lot in 100 PA's?
  6. I'm with you. Let's root for the Cubs against contenders only. Plus if we root for them, maybe they'll actually lose!
  7. CALL HIM UP TO MILWAUKEE!!! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. Exactly. If Torres is mediocre then I'd hate to hear what some other relievers are like Turnbow!

  10. Well you must have known something that Melvin and Ash didn't. Hall was looking like a perennial 30 home run guy and also was the team MVP the year before he had 35 home runs so it's not like he just had one good year. Hall could just as easily became that player or still could become that big time player and playing the hindsight game isn't the right one to play here in my opinion. Melvin took a calculated risk by trying to get big time offense out of CF with average defense and it didn't pay off, but like all good GM's he had a contingency plan in signing Mike Cameron. The Brewers should have traded Sheets after 2004!
  11. Russ is right guys. It's more than speed in CF. You have to get good jumps and Braun gets horrible ones right now in LF. If he does that in LF how can we expect him to be a CF in 2009? I'd say 2010 would be the earliest possible time Braun could play CF and that's best case scenario. He still has a lot to learn out there and LF is the perfect place for him to be doing that.
  12. I don't think Bill Hall's contract would be of concern to most teams in baseball. 6.8 million and 8.4 million due in 2009 and 2010 respectively doesn't really break the bank anymore. With the versatility that Hall has he could have value, but I think he'll have to be packaged with a prospect or 2 to get anything of value or return. If you want to go the "disgruntled player exchange" route, I think the Indians are looking to trade Casey Blake. Blake could be the RH version of the platoon at 3B, while spelling Fielder at 1B with quality defense if needed.
  13. Sure it is, but it still exists in my opinion. That's why it drives you nuts, Russ, because you can't put a number behind it. I wouldn't take that as a blemish on you though because that just means you are a very rational person. Maybe the Theory of Clutchness will be discovered along with an efficient way to do Nuclear Fusion and the way to prove that Global Warming actually does exist! I digress. I do agree that a .738 OPS still isn't anything that great to talk about, but why can't Counsell produce at least that .738 OPS over 4000 PA's if he did it over 1000 PA's? Gotta love the sport of baseball.
  14. Yost could put Hall at 2B, but when's the last time he's actually played the position? Dillon works his best to be able to play 1B, 2B, 3B, and LF and he does a decent job. Hall would have played a better 2B today defensively, but Dillon's bat is more valuable right now because he can actually put the ball in play vs a RHP so I have no problem with Yost's move here. The move was for offensive purposes.
  15. Which one were/are you called the most? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  16. That's one end of the spectrum. The other end of the spectrum is that he doesn't try to do too much and over swing.
  17. This kind of shows how much harder it is to put up huge numbers as a RH as opposed to a LH. We need more people to be left handed!
  18. How about the 50 OPS point increase with RISP over 1000 PA's?
  19. That pretty much defines a clutch player to me.
  20. They do have quite a bit of players playing over their head though. Some of the Ryan Theriots, Ryan Dempsters, and Sotos will come back to earth. There will be some Derrick Lee and Fukudome slumps as well. I just don't see the Cubs as the 100 win team that they are on pace for.
  21. Another thing could be that Counsell is a great singles hitter when he gets pitches right down the middle and that tends to happen with the bases loaded with nowhere to put the runner while other hitters swing for the fences.
  22. If you like 5 ERA pitchers then Bush should stay. If you don't like them then he should go. It's just not as good to have a 5 ERA pitcher as your #4. I could tolerate that from a #5 though.
  23. His career OPS is .688 in 4,384 PA's. His career OPS with RISP is .738 in 1027 PA's. So that's a 50 point increase in clutch situations. Is that significant enough to say Counsell is a somewhat clutch player?
  24. Would I be considered a bad person for rooting for a Cubs key injury? Come on. You all know you want to see it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
