  1. Just tell me he plays better CF than Gabe Gross.
  2. If Brantley turns out to be Darin Erstad, that would definitely be an example of a prospect panning out.
  3. Omar Aguilar is tearing up Bervard County and looks like he's going to be promoted to AA anytime now and Pena has shown some signs in AAA after a rough start. The question is who's going to have the better future with the Milwaukee Brewers? I imagine both will end up getting a shot at the closer role in the next few years due to our lack of long term options there. Could Pena get called up if the Gagne injury turns out to be serious? Here are the lines this year for them: Aguilar - 23.2 innings, 24 K's, 9 BB's, 0.38 ERA Pena - 17.1 innings, 15 K's, 11 BB's, 4.67 ERA
  4. Is it whacky for me to say that Narron would be a better callup than Jeff Weaver? He's intriguing with his 6'7" frame and 2.77 ERA. He's 27 years old so he looks more than ready. I'd give him a shot if McClung doesn't work out in his audition for the rotation.
  5. So can we project Braddock as a #3 type starter?
  6. Discussing and Reporting are 2 different things. Reporting is usually done in a much more formal manner. When it isn't it usually turns into discussion. I'm sorry for not clarifying. I am referring to the Fan Forum area. I don't open the Major League Forum for news, and if I do, I check the links to see if it is legitimate because "Wolf!" has been cried before kind of like what happened with Ned Yost getting "fired" yesterday.
  7. Can we add that the 2005 team tremedously overachieved while the 2008 team is tremendously underachieving?
  8. My argument is that we are here to discuss baseball, not report the news of baseball, and rumors will be a part of that discussion and they might be false. So if Tom "Baldy" Handricourt wants to blame us for a false report, he is nuts.
  9. So we won't get an interview with Jonathan Lucroy because we discussed a false story and thought it was true and then JSOnline blames us for it?
  10. And how were we affected by that? Has it affected site growth at all? Yes. I did not cover that base in my post about credibility. Thank you, Bucky. I agree. I'm sure you do, but I don't think your main intention isn't to report the news on this site.
  11. And that's ok, but I would check the source first just to make sure. When the source is some blog from a guy name Joe Schmoe that the credibility is questioned by TH, I would be a bit suspicious.
  12. Could Charlie Fermaint finally be turning the corner?
  13. That's good to hear. Do you know what kind of velocity he gets and what pitches he has?
  14. Well the good news is that this is a Message Board. Our primary goal is not to break the news. It is to create discussion. So it's not our responsibility if a story goes bad, it's the sportswriter who broke the story. Do we really care about the credibility of this site? We are here to talk baseball, not be CNN.
  15. I'm not going to put a lot of stock in 6 games and 1 of those games was with Yo and we all know where he is. Sure, the Cubs are playing good baseball, but they're hot hitters will cool down and our cold hitters will warm up. We've dug ourselves into a hole now, but so did the Cubs last year. It's going to be an uphill battle. I'd like to see Zambrano break another bat over his leg and snap something to put him on the DL. Oh how funny that would be. After it's all said and done, the Cubs have more pitching to rely on, but I'll believe it when I see it if the Cubs ever win a World Series.
  16. Yes, and that's when I stopped reading the article and immediately went back to working because that set off a huge alarm in my head. It's always great to be the first one to break a story, but you can look like a fool if you aren't right. Good call by Tom to put that disclaimer in there.
  17. I will be willing to bet a lot of money that Jeff Weaver will be starting one of these games.
  18. They do, but for every one story they break, there's 100 stories like this one... garbage.
  19. Thanks, Rluz, for taking a look. I appreciate it. Can we label Rluz as BF.Net's official "Statistical Engineer"?
  20. I can see where you're going with Fielder with his high OBP, but teams won't walk him as much if nobody is on base. Braun's OBP is pretty bad so he doesn't fit the leadoff role that well at all.
  21. I agree with that to an extent. You shouldn't want to gut your minor league system unless the correct opportunity presents itself that would put a team over the top. That happens pretty rarely so I guess I disagree with you in most cases. Even the Yankees are starting to disagree with you on that one a little bit after seeing the Red Sox win last year with Ellsbury, Pedroia, Lester, Buchholz, and Papelbon all playing roles. Amen.
  22. Well it's good to see some quality pitching down in AA then. Nothing amazing, but quality at the least.
  23. That would be a permutation. I remembered 6th grade math class!
  24. On that note, I officially agree with calling Branyan up and sending Gwynn down, but I'm still not that excited about it.
