  1. I ask the same question, Brian. It basically fulfills the requirement of the media being allowed to cover the game to try and accommodate the fans. It basically is a waste of time, though, because it's a bunch of generic speak and cliches.
  2. I'm not real comfortable with Weaver either, and that's why I started a thread in the minor league forum checking the other talent in AAA and AA. It sure isn't looking good. Looks like we're stuck with a loss every 5 games unless we score 10 runs!
  3. I was hoping Prince could bring in a centerpiece of Nick Adenhart or maybe David Price with other quality players.
  4. That last post was one of the best posts I've read on brewerfan.net. It exactly summed up the situation. The Giants are a perfect trading partner right now and who knows when that time window will end. Hopefully Melvin is exchanging emails and on the phone with the Giants GM.
  5. I would keep Sheets and give him big money for next year. Use the money that we would have spent on Prince on Ben Sheets and that would be a better investment.
  6. It's always cool to see a 3 to 1 K to BB ratio. Looks like we've got someone here. Anyone have a scouting report?
  7. Yes. But my point is save your money now and spend it later.
  8. So why have the Brewers been "Melvin'd" if the signing hasn't even been made yet? I'm confused. GM's talk crap all the time.
  9. If Attanasio is talking about opening his pocket book for an SP in the open market, why wouldn't he just sign his own ace assuming Sheets would come back to Milwaukee and not be a jerk and go to the evil empire of NY.
  10. I would seriously give Sheets anything right now IF he pitches a full healthy season. I rather spend money on an ace than a DH like Prince Fielder on an NL team.
  11. The reason that teams passed on Prince in the draft is because many scouts believed he was just a DH. Turns out they were right.
  12. So just injury? I would think non production would be a factor too, but that's just my opinion.
  13. Never? Like Ever? Lol. I think there is a lot of development left with the team and we have high value guys that can bring in the pitching you are talking about so a statement like that might be a little harsh.
  14. Yeah it has to be that Dillad's secondary stuff is subpar if they moved him to the bullpen with the great movement and velocity that I saw on his fastball last night.
  15. If Iribarren comes up next year and is a utility OF, that could be the end of Tony Gwynn in Milwaukee.
  16. The team looks like it's set up nicely for 2010 with good pitching in A ball, but the rest of this year and 2009 might be pretty rough for the Brewers unless the Brewers use a high value guy like Prince Fielder in a trade to get good, young pitching from other teams. It only makes sense with LaPorta coming up and the inevitable of Prince leaving anyways.
  17. Do we get the Diamondback's Run Support that they give Davis along with him?
  18. Has management actually said those things? Or have they come from the taped glasses and pocket protector-wearing nerds on baseball message boards? Why else would you sign Branyan?
  19. Let's not even waste our time with Prince. I'd trade him after the season to the Angels or Rays featuring deals with the centerpiece of Nick Adenhart or David Price respectively. We need the pitching more than Prince's hitting with LaPorta coming up. Prince is a DH as he as proven with his 1B defense this year.
  20. I would love Iribarren to fill the Super Sub role that Bill Hall did a few years back by playing 3-4 times a week at different positions. He just seems like that kind of player because of his bat. You gotta get a bat like that in the lineup whenever you can.
  21. After looking at Weaver and Narveson's numbers so far this year, that does not make me feel good about the back of our rotation. Why did Yo have to get hurt? What did we do to the baseball gods here in Milwaukee? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  22. That's quite a bold statement considering he is only 25 years old and only 1 year removed from being a very dominant hitter. Scouts have always said Hardy has 20-25 homer power. Who's to say he won't have many more of those kinds of years? That said, I still like Escobar better at SS for 2010, because he will be a lot cheaper with better defense and maybe a leadoff type hitter that can get Weeks out of there and back into comfort. I know Escobar's OBP isn't there yet for a leadoff hitter, but I think he could be one at the major league level if we let him develop another full season after this year.
  23. Well that wasn't good to hear. Let's see how his numbers go in AA and AAA, and we'll get a better judgement of what we got in this guy. I think we need a bigger sample against more advanced pitching where they pound the strike zone, like you said. If he plays CF like you were describing, he has virtually no value to the Brewers besides a utility/bench player.
  24. That's amazing that an 82-83 mph fastball can get even AA hitters out even with the velocity separation. You don't see that too often. The guy must know how to make his pitches, and since he has little room for error, he must not have made any mistakes this year. Since a Hammond promotion to AAA is going to happen any time now, could he help the major league rotation this year at some point? Can Hammond at least throw in the low 90's with decent off speed stuff? I'm trying to find somebody in AA or AAA that can come to the bigs and be a 5 ERA #5 starter. It's not much, but when your #4 and #5 starters were both over 6 ERA last week before the Villanueva demotion, 5 ERA doesn't seem all that bad any more.
