I think it's time to give Branyan another shot in the Bigs and to promote Gamel to 3B in Nashville. Only a matter of time. Same for LaPorta going to AAA as well.
Lol. Does a Strikeout ever result in a hit? That's pretty interesting though. I would think pitching to contact would have the potential for less pitches. I guess I have to stop listening to Bill Schroeder. Another thing to mention about the Astros is that Michael Bourn will is hitting .200 right now and leading the league in steals. That average can only increase which means even more steals for the speedster. Are we talking 80 steals here? Berkman and Tejada have to be licking their chops for those RBI opportunities.
I wouldn't say that. He could easily get a Minor league deal next year and pitch in AAA once his recovery is complete in July. He'll get a minor league deal from someone, that's for sure.
I'm still in favor of sticking with Hall and maybe giving Dillon a few games against righties to get Hall back in the groove because when Billy Hall gets hot, there aren't many better hitters in baseball. If only he wasn't so streaky.
There's just no way you can DFA him. If anything you hold onto him until July and try to trade him for a bag of balls if it really gets that bad, but once again, it's May, and he's gonna get a few more chances to shine.
I have no problem with signing someone for 1 year and 10 million because it's one year! We could afford it and Gagne had the repuatation of being a good closer so it looked good. It hasn't worked out yet, but I think Gagne will get back in the closer role and save 20 more games yet before the season is over. Who were we supposed to sign to be our closer? Did you want us to trade Weeks or Hardy for Chad Cordero? If anyone can think of a better option than the Gagne signing this offseason based on potential at the time, please let me know. 1 year and 10 million is going to affect nothing with our future. We can still sign our young guys and the Gagne signing will have no affect on it. So here comes the argument: "Well we could have spent that 10 million on someone else" My question is who? The Free Agent market was so depleted unless you wanted to extremely overpay to get a Jeff Suppan type pitcher. I would still do the Gagne signing all over again because I think he's going to come back and be a good closer yet. It's not like he forgot how to pitch. He's just in a minor slump that gets magnified as a closer.
What people don't understand about Doug Melvin and it's clearly showing in this thread is that as a GM for a small market team you have to take calculated risks. Turnbow was coming off of a 39 save season and in order to get cost certainty he gave Turnbow a whooping 3 milliions dollars. Big deal. What if they didn't sign him and he put in another 40 save season? Then he would have cost 10 million. You have to take risks as a small market team to try to lock in a cheap price. It's just like buying futures in the stock market. You try to lock in at a lower price knowing that it could damn well drop below the value you locked in for. It was a smart contract to sign and Doug Melvin is a fine GM for your Milwaukee Brewers.
Rluz, can you give the math behind Bush having a 40% chance of winning when he pitches? What are you basing that on and what is the scale of ERA to chance of winning a game? What is Sheets chance of winning when he starts?
I have no problem bringing up Weaver for a few starts and seeing what the guy has for Dave Bush. True, Bush isn't a 7 ERA pitcher, but he's not getting the job done right now so let him go figure out what is wrong in AAA and give Weaver 2-3 starts. Weaver has a better and longer track record than Bush does for all you projectors out there despite a horrible year last year for Seattle. I also would have no problem bringing up Weaver for Manny Parra. Parra needs to limit his innings and 2-3 starts by Weaver would buy Parra some innings for later in the year and he can also figure out why the hell he can't go more than 5 innings in a game like the rest of the staff. Does anyone have the details on the incentives of Weaver's contract? I don't think it will kill our payroll that much to give the guy a shot.
Maybe Brewerfan.net can start a trend and use GPA as their main statistcal measure for a hitter. Other message boards will follow. Even northsidebaseball.com!

The Cubs are a Derrick Lee injury and the Cards are an Albert Pujols injury from being nobody's so let's all just settle down and have a beer together. It's on me.
