  1. If Cappy even sees Milwaukee this year, I'll be surprised. Hopefully he gets off to a good start in Nashville.
  2. Too rich for my blood. Way too risky for a small market team like ours to get involved in. I wish him the best of luck.
  3. There are plenty of players that you listed that have "Top of the rotation" ceilings, but if you want to be ultra conservative, then I guess your list is ok.
  4. Kotchman is a pretty good defender too so this adds to Seattle's historically good defense.
  5. Meet the 2010 NL Central favorites. Our chances to win the division just dropped big time.
  6. Anyone read Keith Law's take on this? It's quite interesting. http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?name=law_keith
  7. To reinforce my earlier post, Holliday to the Cards is looking more and more like a done deal. Too bad he rejected Boston's initial offer because the Cards might get him for cheaper. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4780391&campaign=rss&source=MLBHeadlines
  8. No, but 300+ less Bill Hall PA's and 500+ less Kendall PA's should help a bit. The pitching can't be any worse than it was last year, and the bullpen looks sustainable. With average pitching, better defense, and a similar offense 90 wins isn't out of the question.
  9. And Holliday should be a Card any day now as there aren't many other suitors for him besides STL.
  10. Parra is exactly the type of pitcher you should be targeting for 2009. He is a good bet for improvement for two reasons: he suffered from bad luck in 2008 - a high HR/FB and a very-high BABIP - so he figures to improve upon his ERA simply due to regression to the mean; and he is also a good bet to improve in his actual skill, due to his track record and age. A combination of improvement and regression should lead to Manny Parra being a steal in 2009. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/index.php/the-curious-case-of-manny-parra/
  11. I agree and I don't think they should be batting consecutively either. 7th and 9th would be ideal.
  12. Villanueva back to being a starter? Will the Brewers make up their mind already! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Hopefully Green gets his act together this year after the wrist injury and pushes for an AAA promotion and while Gamel may start the season in Nashville, I doubt he will be there very long if he doesn't get traded after all. I'm really pulling for Mike Jones this year. Hopefully he can mow down hitters and push for a callup as well. I don't think Pitching depth will be a problem this year as it was last year. With Jones, Butler, Narveson, Halama, Capuano and possibly Mulder in our back pockets, we won't have to worry about calling awful pitchers like Mike Burns up when the injury bug bites. Nice job, Toby.
  13. I am going to guess that Suppan retires after this year unless he wants to hang around the league in a Livan Hernandez fashion.
  14. I think Mark made a great decision by letting him walk and promoting Bruce Seid. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Arnett and Heckathorn will out perform Rogers and Jeffress. Time will tell, though.
  15. I think it's safe to say there will be a major trade for another front line starter before the offseason is over. Whether it's for Morrow, Vazquez, or whoever is TBD, but I'd bet the farm on it. The offseason is far from over and thank goodness Melvin is done in the over priced FA market.
  16. I think it has to do with the oddity of him signing a Major League deal out of the draft. Somebody might be able to elaborate on that.
  17. If that is the case (Aumont is going to Toronto plus others) then JP Riccardi was smart for not trading him at the deadline. Too bad he got fired in the process. Aumont looked really good in the WBC pitching for Canada as a 19 year old. I would think Toronto would move him back to being a starter, though because I believe he was moved to the pen by Jack.
  18. The rich get richer.
  19. I guess for 9 million per year it isn't too bad of a signing, but I'm not sure how good he is going to be at age 35. I guess we'll find out, but I'm not expecting much more than a 4.5 ERA pitcher which does have some value.
  20. This deal scares me. Wolf's numbers were much better than his career norms last year and park driven. The more hitter friendly/neutral Miller Park will bring him back to earth. I think we are buying too high here and would rather explore the trade market and inquire about guys like Vazquez, Correia, and Josh Johnson.
  21. At least we go from a 600 OPS catcher to a 700 OPS catcher, but we already had 700 OPS catchers on our roster with equal if not better defense. Weird move.
  22. I bet the Tigers wished they offered Polanco arby. I can't believe the number of teams that are going to lose the opportunity for draft picks.
  23. For a premium bat and a career utility player, the Cubs get a middle reliever and 2 minor leaguers who aren't even in Oakland's top 25 prospects. Hmmm.
  24. I wouldn't mind trading Prince to a team like the Red Sox who are looking for a DH with Ortiz going in the tank for Buccholz and other prospects. I think Gamel could end up being a serviceable 1B. I don't see the Brewers having much of a chance to lock Prince up long term after his monster season. I'd either trade him or wait another year and see if his value is still sky high.
