  1. Then again, since he is still out there, maybe no one else wants him anyway. That would be surprising though since he was pretty damn good for us last season. Another year of not having a real 3B and a patchwork 1B isn't appealing to me. Hopefully Hiura can handle 1B.
  2. My gut tells me we re-sign Gyroko by Monday evening... They must have been in communication with him during the Turner sga just in case it didnt work out. Now the question is: Does Gyrko want to come back to Milwaukee? Does he feel we wronged him but not picking up his option? Does he feel dis-respected by the Brewers for not signing him before now? I think we get him back, and I think the price isn't going to be as low as some are expecting. 2 years 6 - 7 million?
  3. Depends on how you look at it. I view realism and pessimism as too different things.
  4. I think we are over rating our pitching. Relief pitching is great, no concerns there. Starting pitching though? Woodruff and Burnes (assuming we get 2020 Burnes) are top notch 1 and 2 guys... What do we have after that? 3 question marks to round out the rotation but nothing more. We need 5 guys to fill a rorttion, and having 3-5 being what we have, I don't see that as being a strength. We can't win the division with a crappy line-up, 2 good/great starters, and an excellent bullpen. The line-up part is going to kill us. How do we intend to score runs when the 3-5 are starting? Our starting pitching is going to have to put up a lot of 0's if we intend on winning. Our 1 and 2 can probably do that, but days when our 3-5 are starting, and we can't score runs due to our horrid offense, we aren't going to win a lot of those games. How do we intend on scoring runs when Woody and Burnes pitch? They may shut down the other team, allow 2 or 3 runs, but that might be all it takes to beat us on most days. I think it is great you guys have a positive attitude and can be optimists, but I'm a realist, and there is no way this line-up is going to score enough runs to get us to the post season.
  5. The real question here is: Is Urias ready for the "bright lights?"
  6. There are also a lot of guys who never hit home runs, and continued not hitting home runs... For every Robin Yount, there are probably 10,000 guys who sucked, and sucked until they were run out of baseball...
  7. Ok, so back to Turner...Is today the day? One way or the other, this has to get sorted out soon, right?
  8. So that was the plan all along? Cubs trade Bryant, sign Turner, and we go with what we got? Now I'm crying... I still think Turner will be a Dodger, no matter what happens with Bryant.
  9. Since I see his name thrown around a lot, and I don't see a thread dedicated to him, thought I'd start one with this information: According to SNY's Andy Martino, free agent starter James Paxton "is said to be seeking" more than $11 million. $11 million is what Corey Kluber got from the Yankees last month on a one-year contract, and Paxton is apparently aiming to top it. The asking price might help to explain why the 32-year-old left-hander remains unsigned with spring training scheduled to get underway next week. Paxton has typically been highly effective when healthy, but he posted a rough 6.64 ERA in just 20 1/3 innings (five starts) last season with New York while averaging only 92.1 mph with his fastball -- a pitch that was clocked at 95.5 mph on average in 2019. 10. SNY's Andy Martino hears that the Mets are again engaged in discussions with the Cubs about a potential Kris Bryant trade. Martino reported last month that the Mets and Cubs had not communicated about Bryant in several weeks, but there is apparently renewed interest in working out some sort of swap. Of note here is that Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweeted earlier this week that the Mets and free agent third baseman Justin Turner were "not matching up on years/dollars." Bryant is due $19.5 million in 2021, his final year under team control, but Chicago would probably eat some of that money if it were to net them a better return package. 11. All I know for certain is this: I'm sick of checking in to see if we signed him yet? lol I can't wait for it to be over with, one way or another.
  12. That makes me feel a little bad. He was a good dude to have on the club...
  13. I think we should also consider the fact that he might prefer to play with the Dodgers again to try for another ring. Might he take a small discount to pony up and ride with the heavily favored Dodgers to win another ring? No team gives him the immediate chance at another ring like the Dodgers do... Unless the Dodgers simply don't want him, then he will be choosing the best offer.
  14. PR The fans are going to be pissed if Turner leaves...
  15. I'm guessing at this point, that Erceg can be chalked up to a complete and total bust? Man, I really thought he would be our 3B of the future when he was in Appleton. Back to Turner, as much as I want him, I think it would be a financial disaster to sign him for more than 2 years. If it takes more than 2, I'm assuming we are out of the conversation to begin with. How about a one year deal for 18 million? Doubt he'd be up for that since he wants to cash out on his last contract, but it would be great for us, less risk and it wouldn't kill us the next 2-3 years...
  16. So basically, those with 4 packs are not going to be able to attend games live?
  17. I don't know about that, I know a lot of women that are as big of fans as a lot of men I know...lol
  18. Tigers signed 1B/DH Renato Nunez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. Nunez was released by the Orioles back in late November despite registering an impressive .816 OPS with 12 home runs and 31 RBI over 52 games for Baltimore during the truncated 2020 campaign. The 26-year-old should get regular playing time this season in Detroit between first base and the designated hitter role. SOURCE: Detroit Tigers PR on Twitter Feb 10, 2021, 12:25 PM ET
  19. So you guys think that we can knock off LA? Ok, I hope you are right, and I like the fact that you are able to convince yourselves we have a chance, but I disagree..
  20. to your first point, so what? I'm concerned with the here and now. The Brewers team that we will be fielding in 2021 is almost like a AAA team in comparison to LA and SD. I don't care that we have made the playoffs 4 times to SD 1. Let's see where that shakes out in the next 10 years... The deck is stacked against us, obviously, it just gets frustrating. I am thankful that we have had success recently, but looking at the LA and SD teams, it is deflating to see what we are up against both financially and physically. Staying competitive is great, and far better than not being competitive, but if we can't have real World Series aspirations, it takes some of the air out.
  21. As a long-time Brewers fan, how could you possibly be surprised that they went this route? That move was about as Stearns-esque as it gets. I mean, when has this team's front office ever made the predicted or obvious move? I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just fed up with this off season, as a long time Brewers fan. Look at what LA and SD have done! Seriously, just take a long hard look at what those teams will be fielding, and what we will be throwing out there. It just saddens me to think that as baseball fans, who love our team, we just will be unable to compete for a World Series birth. It is just as close to impossible as it gets. Well, at least we aren't the Pirates.
  22. This team would have to get by the Dodgers and Padres. no way, not a chance in hell this Brewers team sniffs the World Series. Sad to say it... I think we are back to hoping for a play-off spot. Anything after that, even one play-off win is just gravy. This team as it sits now, can not compete with LA and SD, it is just silliness to think otherwise. Financially, we simply have no shot.
  23. Can't complain about taking a flyer on him, but I can complain that we still have not really addressed 3B and another arm in the rotation that we know will be better than what we have. A #3 basically... We signed a guy who might be able to play 3B, but we will have to find out as the season progresses. It's not a plan, it's a wing and a prayer. We desperately need a 1B, 3B and rotation help, so we sign a 2B, and move our 2B to 1B, even though he has never logged a single inning at the position. We seem to think that after Burnes and Woodruff, someone will just step up to fill 3-5. Our 3-5 is garbage. People will disagree with that, but we are throwing out garbage.
  24. If the Mets REALLY want Turner, we are probably going to be out of the running...
  25. Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, the Tigers are talking to free agent first baseman/DH Renato Núñez about a minor league deal. Núñez isn't a great first baseman, but the Tigers don't have a clear first baseman on the roster, so there's a real chance he could walk away with significant playing time. The 26-year-old was surprisingly designated for assignment by the Orioles in November after putting up 12 homers with an .816 OPS over 52 games in 2020.
