  1. "there is always a limit on how much we can do, and every penny we spend counts toward that limit." EXACTLY! Take Braun's 20 million off this years payroll, and we sign Darvish or Arrieta without hesitation. Braun's contract is always looming, and no matter how anyone rationalizes it, it will/is preventing us from signing a TOR type guy, or two...
  2. My gut says no way. This is a non-issue, is he actually better than any of our already in house options? Not worth it.
  3. Something tells me the Cubs are NOT going to allow us to sign Darvish with our recent activity... If we don't get him, hopefully his price just went up for the Cubs.
  4. 3 for 60 million? I'd take that over 5 @ 80 million every time with a player his age. I get it, that wasn't going to happen.
  5. I had already convinced myself that Brinson was gone, so losing him had no effect on me, it was inevitable it seemed. The sting of Diaz and Harrison will lesson over time, but I was attached to both players, especially Diaz. I'm very happy we were able to hold on to Burnes, Ortiz and to some extent Woodruff (not as high on him as some) so that is the plus in my thought process.
  6. We'll see if people are singing that tune in year 4 and 5 of this contract... The life of the MLB. There will probably always be a contract or two that players might not live up to every year. Not a great reason to not make deals. Never said we shouldn't have made the deal, but I'd have rather sunk that $ into a starting pitcher than an outfielder.
  7. Doesn't that mean.. it's not an overpay? As I’m reading people talk about over pay as if this is 2002, the guys on MLB network are slobbering over the Cain acquisition. Speaking about how he only has to be a 2-win player per year for the contract to be worth it. Hell he could have that in two seasons. We'll see how that plays out in years 4 and 5 of Cains contract. There is a pretty good chance we have that bloated contract on the books when we need to have the money for another player at that time, but will be strapped. I might be wrong, but so could everyone else.
  8. I think it is obvious we overpaid in both transactions, however, that is the market, and DS thought he had to do what he did. You have to pay to play. Are we currently better for the 2018 season, yes. Will this trade make us better in 2020, we shall see.
  9. We'll see if people are singing that tune in year 4 and 5 of this contract...
  10. For me it's not underrating him as much as wondering if the difference between him and what we already had was worth trading 4 prospects for. I would have prefered not to have done this deal but not overly fussed about it either. One thing I do like about this is he is the type of hitter that we don't have a lot of. I'm a fan of having different types of hitters in the lineup and we were missing his type of hit tools. Completely 100% agree with you on this. Take away the aspects of the trade and I'm extremely happy that Yelich is a Brewer, he's the type of hitter I wish we had more of in the lineup. Trading 4 prospects for him is what I'm not extremely happy about. Fully agree with both of you, you stated it perfectly.
  11. Please, let's hang onto Peralta. Diaz and Harrison are a big enough hit, adding him to that "gone" list might damn near kill me.

  13. There is no way he was worse than Domingo...
  14. HighHeat posted over in the Santana thread that Domingo will be dealt to an American League team - possibly as early as Friday. and that there is a 2nd deal in the works as well...
  15. I just spent the entire evening, the last 3 hours, flipping back and forth between the Major League Forum and Rumors/Transactions forum and had no lag time between posts. Constant outpouring of posts. That was fun... Let's see what tomorrow brings!
  16. True, but I'm going to go ahead and place my faith in HH19 at this point. He made no bones about it being an AL team. The guy is batting a thousand He also said there is a 2nd trade other than the one he mentioned that was an AL team...
  17. AL team might be on the radar, but you can't eliminate an NL team because someone says it is an AL team. There could be other talks on the table besides the AL team he mentioned. Things are fluid at all times when it comes to Stearns...
  18. So say Domingo, Burnes, Peralta and Stokes? plus another bat, possibly even Phillips. Maybe Erceg, Dubon, Ray (no big loss), Trent Clark (Grisham) It would be ugly.
  19. stroman and devon travis What would that look like? Say goodbye to 3 or 4 more of our TOP prospects, plus Domingo. Probably Burnes, Woodriff for sure, plus two other bats. Maybe more.
  20. Please tell me he's headed to Tampa? Archer Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff Nelson coming back HOLY ****!! I know that is better than in the past, but that rotation is still missing a real TOR starter. That isn't enough to push us past the Cubs, or the other big boys in the NL for sure. Archer is a NO for me, just don't see what all the fuss is about with him. High K's, that is great, but his ERA is trending in the wrong direction the past two years. I don't want the guy.
  21. I do agree with this. I think Arietta is more likely. Arieta scares the bejesus out of me. I'd much rather gamble on Yu than that ex Cub.
  22. If it's Archer for Domingo, I really hope they don't drain our farm as an add on. Santana for Archer straight up would be ideal, but not happening. Not an Archer fan at all, in fact, I'd rather just sign the best FA available and use Santana for something else, or another SP.
  23. Agreed. trwi7 isn’t a troll. I 3rd that...
  24. Unless he is dead set on going to the Cubs, our recent activity has to at the very least raise his eyebrows a bit... If we can move Santana for another intriguing piece, might that tip the scales in our direction for Darvish? I just don't think he will truly consider the small market Brewers when some of the big market money and off field money making opportunities that come with the big market teams is out there for him. We can dream.
