  1. In a statement released to The Athletic on Tuesday, Pirates infielder Josh Harrison said that he'd prefer to be traded if the Pirates don't expect to contend in 2018 or 2019. Harrison sees which way the wind is blowing after the recent trades of Gerrit Cole and Andrew McCutchen. "If indeed the team does not expect to contend this year or next, perhaps it would be better for all involved, that I also am traded," Harrison said in part of the statement. "I want what is best for the organization that gave me a chance to be a Big Leaguer." The versatile 30-year-old is owed $10 million in 2018, with a $10.5 million club option (or $1 million buyout) for 2019 and an $11.5 million club option (or $500,000 buyout) for 2020. Rosenthal writes that the Mets, Yankees, and Brewers are among the teams with reported interest in Harrison. If the Pirates don't feel they are getting fair value, they could easily hold and wait until the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline. Source: The AthleticJan 16 - 2:09 PM
  2. or... Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle writes that "all the tea leaves tell me" the Giants are getting more serious in talks with free agent outfielder Lorenzo Cain. The assumption was that the Giants wouldn't sign a qualifying offer free agent, but general manager Bobby Evans recently said that he wouldn't rule out the possibility. The club would have to surrender two draft picks (their second- and fifth-highest picks) and $1 million in international spending money in order to sign Cain. Schulman notes that there's "nothing close" while speculating that years could be an issue. Steven Duggar and Gorkys Hernandez are among the in-house options for center field, but the club has also been connected to Andrew McCutchen on the trade market. Admittedly, Cain would be vastly superior to McCutchen to patrol center field. Source: Henry Schulman on TwitterJan 15 - 2:50 PM
  3. Is he trying to learn world-class whining techniques? Nope, he is trying to learn "class." It's all about class...
  4. I have a friend who claims all NFL games, especially playoffs are rigged. He says it is obvious that the Saints DB wiffed that play on purpose, to rig a Vikings win. It was bad enough, that I can understand where he is coming from, however, to rig an NFL game would have so many moving parts, I just can't imagine it to be possible and to have it kept a secret for so long.
  5. Hope he doesn't come into the season sporting neck tattoos.
  6. DJ Wilson was horrible in garbage time a couple nights ago. Dude looked absolutely lost on the court with real NBA players. Didn't like the pick when they drafted him, and still don't like it.
  7. I'm curious if you have similar feelings toward Luis Ortiz. Ortiz has been injured at some point each year since being drafted & was even hurt during senior year of high school before being drafted. He has yet to throw 100 IP in any of his 4 seasons of professional ball. Still people think of him as a mid-rotation starting pitcher. Yup, sure do... How can that not be a legit concern?
  8. Until Brinson can play a full season, relatively healthy, I just don't have any confidence in the guy. Seems like a career full of 100 or less game seasons to me.
  9. I'd rather see Brinson moved than Phillips. I agree with the post directly above from Brew4U. *sigh*
  10. Which made no sense at the time, or now for that matter... Best we part ways, but why he didn't get a call was hard to understand.
  11. I second that opinion. Hopefully he gets cut right out of the gate.
  12. If he pans out, his bat will be quite useful as a pitcher in certain situations as well...I like this signing!!
  13. This makes me happy... I am surprised we didn't lose him. Brewers re-signed LHP Nick Ramirez to a minor league contract. Ramirez pulled off an astonishingly successful conversion from first baseman to relief pitcher last year in the minors, posting a 1.36 ERA in 79 1/3 innings between Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A Colorado Springs. If he can roll that into 2018, the 28-year-old southpaw will likely find a spot in the Milwaukee bullpen at some point. Ramirez was a fourth-round pick of the Brewers in 2011. 14. Coming home from a Christmas in the Bahamas to this horrid weather is definitely bugging me. We experienced lows in the mid 70's at night to highs in the low 80's during the day. Coming home to this is ridiculous. It begs the yearly question: Why do I live in this? Retirement will surely bring on 3 or 4 months in a different climate.
  15. Hard pass. Pass on Gomez too. Our strength could be our future outfielders, why do we want re-treads and guys that are not that great? Can't we just sit back and see what we have in "our" guys for once and quit messing with guys that won't make any kind of a difference anyway?
  16. It's not a matter of being afraid, and I know when people say "Merry Christmas" to someone they are not trying to be rude or offensive, but it's still a bit odd if you don't know the person at all. I think most people would not say "Hey, hope you enjoy the upcoming baseball season" to someone that they do not know well enough to even know if they like baseball. It's odd to wish someone a Merry Christmas if you don't know them? That is a newer way to view things... Growing up, until I'd say the 2000's, people didn't think twice when someone said Merry Christmas, now we have conversations about the feelings it evokes? To me, that is odd.
  17. Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports that the Brewers are among the teams that have shown interest in Alex Cobb. Morosi reports that the Brewers have spoken to Cobb recently, but that the Cubs are still considered among the favorites to land the right-handed starter. Earlier this month, it was reported that Cobb's asking price was around $20 million a year; an asking price that has had some teams soften their interest in the 30-year-old starter. While the asking price could be steep, there's no denying that he'd be an upgrade to the rotation, and could help them close the gap with the Cubs in the National League Central. 18. The war was brief, and those on the side of eliminating Christmas LOST! Merry Christmas!
  19. Brewers signed RHP Yovani Gallardo to a one-year, $2 million contract. The deal includes another $2 million in performance-based incentives, per Chris Cotillo of SB Nation. Gallardo, who began his career with the Brewers as a second-round pick in 2004, put up an ugly 5.72 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 22 starts and six relief appearances with the Mariners in 2017. Brewers general manager David Stearns said in a statement announcing the agreement that the 31-year-old right-hander "will compete for a spot in our rotation or bullpen." Source: Adam McCalvy on TwitterDec 21 - 12:39 PM Ummmm, as opposed to Center Field?
  20. I can't wait for him to be off the market so this thread can die a peaceful death...
  21. 2 years at 25 million each, I'd think about it, anything longer and I hang up the phone, or never place the call.
  22. Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Brewers are close to an agreement with free agent right-hander Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin posted good overall numbers with the Padres in 2017, but his home-road splits don't paint a pretty picture for what the Brewers might be getting here. The 29-year-old right-hander had a 1.79 ERA in 16 starts at Petco Park and a 6.53 ERA in 16 starts everywhere else. Milwaukee's Miller Park is not so kind on pitchers. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN says Chacin's deal with the Brewers will be for two years and carry a total guarantee of around $16 million. Related: Brewers Source: Ken Rosenthal on TwitterDec 20 - 12:51 PM
  23. Kotsay as an OF coach? Just bring him back to play CF as long as you are bringing RRR back. *gag*
  24. This is a confusing move... If we are building a team to contend now, why Gallardo? He was one of if not the worst pitcher in MLB last season. What possible purpose does he serve on this team? (hopefull a long relief innings eater when the game is out of control) If we are rebuilding a team to compete in the near future, say 2019 or 2020, why Gallardo? All he does is take up a spot that a young guy should be occupying. I do not like this move.
