  1. I was there too. Cubs fans remain as classless as ever; they were real treats tonight, ugh. That being said, what a fantastic game albeit obviously a poor outcome. The 6th-9th innings were absolutely electric; it really had a playoff feel to it, if you know what I mean.
  2. I'll be a junior at Madison (so admitted in 06) and I had a 3.8 GPA with a 29 ACT in high school and took 6 AP classes. I'm a white male from Milwaukee and I had lots of extracurriculars (played vball, bball, golf and baseball as well as joined some clubs) and I didn't apply all that early (Novemberish I think?). Madison is a great school and don't let people tell you otherwise. For just an overall good college experience, it's a good place. The athletics are obviously highly ranked, the nightlife is good, and the city is beautiful being on the isthmus and all. The academics are top notch, and I very strongly believe that an undergrad degree from Madison will get you further/more highly considered for positions than someone with an undergrad from a different state school (aka a UWM, Whitewater, EC etc.). Be warned though; school is hard. High school was a breeze, even with the so called AP/college preparatory classes. Once I came to college, I learned what it's really like so be prepared to study. I've been kind of lazy thus far and still have a 3.2 GPA here so I guess I feel kind of good about that, but to get into specific majors/programs be ready to work for that 3.6+ GPA at a minimum.
  3. One thing is for certain if Sizemore did make his way to Milwaukee; the female fanbases heads would explode. They're already smitten with Hardy, Braun etc...jersey t-shirt sales for Sizemore would skyrocket our payroll north of 90 million! hehe ... on a baseball related note, I would love to see Grady in Milwaukee for obvious reasons ( good leadoff hitter, good defensive CF etc. etc.) but I also feel it is doubtful that just Prince alone would be able to garner Grady. I'm not comfortable with the idea of packaging Prince + Laporta either because that just then leaves us with a hole at 1B again.

  5. I just completed my sophomore year at UW-Madison, and I will have to say, I disagree with the comment about "everyone and their mother being a business major". The Business School here at Madison is EXTREMELY competitive and you basically need a 3.6 GPA+ just to even be considered (and trust me, classes here are difficult enough that a 3.6 is fairly hard to obtain). I'm planning on majoring in accounting, and most likely engaging in the five year Accounting program we offer here (3 years of undergrad work, a semester or a year of interning at likely a "Big Four" Accounting firm ie. PriceWaterHouse Cooper and then a year of grad school and you get a Masters in Accountancy...not a bad gig)...having an Accounting and/or a business degree in general from Madison is pretty prestigious imo (and many others') and you'll likely land a well-paying job almost immediately after college (but as was said before, experience is crucial so an internship or two during your school tenure will work wonders for landing a good job quickly). But in some circumstances, I guess it is true that "everyone and their mother is a business major" but it's also true that going to a "better" school than say a UW-Whitewater, Oshkosh etc. (no disrespect meant to those who attended those schools) will help you out in the long-run. GPA is important to an extent, but having experience and a degree from a reputable university helps immensely. I have no regrets about saying that if I went to a school like a UWM, Whitewater, Oskhkosh etc. my GPA would be higher than it is now, but having that diploma with Madison on it is more worthy, at least to me. But I digress. As for high school education/sports, it sounds like you're challenging yourself already. I did good in high school as well...3.8 or so GPA, 29 on my ACT's, took six or seven AP classes, took all the AP tests and generally did really well (which also is huge...it gave me 21 credits even before I started college), played volleyball, basketball, golf, and baseball (sports all year is really time-consuming, I will admit to that), and joined a few clubs, and having a good resume will get you into a lot of schools, but a 3.7 GPA with AP classes and sports coupled with a 27 ACT will get you into anywhere around here. As for sports, you're probably better at the baseball gig than I was (I was a pitcher/3B who could throw 80 MPH with a good change and poor excuse for a curveball and could only hit singles) but if you do want to play baseball, I would say follow your dreams. I miss baseball so much, it's ridiculous. Not much time or money for playing some serious ball anymore(Madison has a few club teams and the Mallards in town, but it costs too much money and time to play for either of those) but I sure do miss it. As for the comment about proper grammar/writing, I'm a big fan of grammar, spelling, writing etc. but my "enter" key is broken on this laptop so I apologize to all of those who read this http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Yep I "won" a vacation last year....never called em' back but they did call me a couple times a week for at least 2 months. Stupid scams.
  7. Anyone still having thoughts of the "Bush for closer" campaign? As has been pointed out, he can cruise through multiple innings, and is generally halfway decent in the first inning...could be a legitimate closer and if not, he shouldn't be any worse than our current situation.
  8. Don't have much faith in Stetter anymore
  9. But look at Weaver's hitting stats in AAA. .400 AVG, .500 OBP, .900 OPS! Lineup salvation!
  10. Picture quality is terrible, and the play by play guy has an incredibly annoying voice...I would go crazy if he were our normal guy.
  11. I experience the school dreams quite a bit...usually its that I dreamt I overslept an exam or final, and the repercussions that follow afterwards. It's like I miss something, and then any possible scenario that could ever play out following it happens (like becoming homeless, lots of other things etc.)
  12. No matter how many pitches were in his most recent AB, Bill Hall still frustrates me.
  13. Brewers only K'd 5 times last night, while the Cubs, even in their offensive barrage, struck out 9 times!
  14. To be honest, I'm digging him so far. 3-4, 2 rbi's, nice debut!
  15. I live downtown on campus (albeit more near Camp Randall) but it is a bit scary considering the random nature of the murders. I mean...this last girl was murdered in her own home (and hawing, as I have been hearing, the doors on the home were unlocked, suggesting that the killer meandered into her home without trouble and committed the crime). One of my good friends (and roommate last year) lives only 4 houses down from where this occurred (and I have two other friends who live on the same stretch) so saying that it's "close to home" is more real that you can imagine. Hopefully the police put an end to this stuff soon; I would never surmise that things of this nature would happen here in Madison...UWM campus may be a little more believable considering its proximity to Milwaukee (and all that Milwaukee is unfortunately notorious for, and as a side note, I am originally from Milwaukee so I am not truly biased having lived in both places). But again, hopefully it comes to an abrupt end in the near future and the perpetrator(s?) will be behind bars for a long time.
  16. WMLW is carrying the game tonight
  17. Sophomore at UW-Madison...no defined major yet but I applied to the school of business
  18. I find chili flavor quite a bit here in Madison...that is good stuff but my "favs" are the beef, roast beef, chicken .One other tip...it is essentially just like Lawry's seasoning but try some Ramen seasoning on your popcorn next time you make a bag. Good stuff.
  19. Even if he is biased, it has no outcome on the final of the game so I don't mind either. Dickie V is just a wild, easily excitable man.
  20. I was not a winner either http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif bummer
  21. University Housing is relaxed as can be. Like you said, a very lax policy on policing the underage drinking etc. With that being said, I'm a student at the UW as well, a sophomore, and ironically applying to the business school too as I type (at least the essay portion haha) and I'd fully recommend studying abroad. A couple of my roommates did last summer and last semester (China and Australia respectively) and both loved it. Almost anyone I've talked to about it has enjoyed the experience. Being an RA at a private dorm would be 100X times better than at one of the main ones, but I'd still take the opportunity to go abroad (although the private dorms are full of coasties and most of those girls are pretty attractive ha).
  22. But I see you haven't ruled out the zoo yet! There is faith...
  23. I got a trainer I could hook you up with...she's real good with physical work...will definitely get you in shape in a hurry...very dedicated to her work too... i often see her downtown various weeknights as she walks from corner to corner, addressing random men with what I can only assume is workout tips...she seems to get hired quite a bit though...not sure if you'd want to pick a trainer who can't attune to only a single man's workout needs... still not sure what her stance on performance enhancing drugs is though...
