  1. Thanks for all the replies. They're all quite good, as they're very thought provoking. Much of this is hard for me as I'm pretty much "The Anti-Stat." I invest in players emotionally, and I personally would rather have good players that are of good character more so than I would like to have great players that are of questionable character. I drive the stat guys in my circle of friends just nuts but that's the way I feel about it all. I really, really want Corey Hart to finish his career as a Brewer. Ramirez I can see letting go, because he does get awfully expensive, but I don't know where they'll find that kind of production for less money.
  2. Here's what I don't get. A lot of you want to deal Hart and/or Ramirez, to free up money with which to sign free agents that would presumably fill other holes. In this scenario, you're hoping that the prospects taking the place of Hart and/or Ramirez will pan out and you're also hoping that the newly acquired free agents will perform to their value. Why not then just fill those other holes mentioned above with prospects and hope that they pan out, while keeping the known commodities of Hart and Ramirez?
  3. I don't think Hart being gone in 2014 is a forgone conclusion by any means, unless I've missed something (which happens more often than not).
  4. Oh for God's sake... it was just an amusing little observation. A bit of joke. I apologize for not making that clear enough for you.
  5. "Your Milwaukee Brewers; closer killers." In just the past few years, we've witnessed the deaths of the careers of Eric Gagne, Trevor Hoffman, and Francisco Rodriguez; arguably 3 of the best closers in history. And yes of course they were all pretty much at the end when they got here, but still... just let that sink in for a minute. That's a pretty impressive list.
  6. Insomnia is bugging me greatly at the moment.
  7. That is what I too would like to see.
  8. Thanks, but i meant the 2013, 2014 and 2015 projections of salary and gross value like rluzinski did for Gamel above. If Hart's gross value is 60 million to Gamel's gross value of 31.5 million, but Hart's net value is only 10 million compared to Gamel's net value of 19 million, I think we'd be much better off with Hart. edit: I have no idea what Hart's gross or net values will be. I just pulled those numbers out of thin air to illustrate what I'm trying to find out.
  9. I'd like to see that same set of numbers on Hart. I don't know where or how to get them though.
  10. Mr. Attanasio is indeed a businessman. It may suit him very well for the Brewers to "lose money" every now and then.
  11. I wonder if Segura will play tonight, provided he gets to Milwaukee in time.
  12. Yes, he could have pulled him back, but why would he? Especially with Segura here. I haven't seen anything about a trade, so I'm guessing that Melvin just let him go. Is it possible that Washington said "we'll take him off your hands, but we won't give up anything in return"?
  13. It is said that teams put all of their players on waivers at this time of year. Perhaps the Nationals, out of necessity, claimed him without Melvin having any prior knowledge.
  14. He admitted to tanking plays on purpose in an effort to get traded. Throwing the ball away, etc. He's a bum.
  15. That is very interesting to me, can you elaborate on that please? In what context would a team benefit more from Mariano Rivera instead of Willie Mays? Wouldn't even a great team be better off adding a Mays to an already explosive lineup and just going with a Wilhelm or Hoffman as a closer? This is why the entire exercise is futile. Mays vs who? Maddux vs who? Rivera vs who? And what are the strengths/weaknesses of the rest of the team?
  16. Thank you! That makes perfect sense to me now. Edit: And for the record, I feel like an even bigger dope than usual, now.
  17. I get that part. I still don't understand what "blow the top off the brewers offer" means or how the Angels could do it.
  18. What do you mean by this? I don't understand what you mean by "blow the top off" and I also don't understand how the Angels can do anything if they're eliminated early. This trade is all done, no? I'm not asking to be jerk-like, I'm asking because I don't know.
  19. It has nothing to do with what is liked or disliked; it has everything to do with integrity. This is what makes BF.Net head and shoulders above the rest of what's out there. If I read something on here, I'm quite confident that it is accurate. I'd rather that you didn't take that luxury away from me, even unknowingly. Persons posting on this forum have always been held to pretty high standards, not just by the mods, but by each other as well. You're not being singled out, you're just being asked to adhere to those same standards.
  20. In Kansas City, the announcers are now dictating policy. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/30/ned-yost-bans-fraternizing-on-the-basepaths-because-it-angers-rex-hudler/
  21. In the words of Wallace Cleaver, "I think Eddie and Lumpy are just givin' ya the business."
  22. I'd like to see Gomez start every game for the rest of the year. Make it "his job" and nobody else's. I think that would give us, and more importantly, the powers that be, a much better idea of what Gomez actually has to offer. Gomez hasn't been jerked around as badly as Gamel's been jerked around, but I still don't think he's been given a fair shot at showing what he can or cannot do as an every day starter. No platoon, no pulling him after a few poor at-bats. Let him show that he can work through a rough patch... or that he can't. I think the Brewers have done very poorly, as an organization, when it comes to giving young talent a legitimate chance to succeed. Now is the time. There's no reason not to.
  23. When I read garbage like the above, and it is garbage, I picture the following.... http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y174/DanAuctions4u/posting/internet_tough_guy_mag.jpg
