  1. I need help with a hardware recommendation. I need a wireless router and would like to possibly get one that is also a modem so that I can return the one from the ISP (Charter Cable) and save $7 per month. I can hard wire the PC into it, but would like the wireless capability for the laptop and the smartphones. I have 100mb service, and am told that Charter may do another upgrade soon to 130mb. I talked to a Charter tech and he said that although they're told not to make recommendations, the Linksys "N" routers seem to work well. The one below seems to be a good bargain, but I know very little of such things. I'm not afraid of refurbished goods, I just don't know if this particular model is good, bad or otherwise in this realm. Thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cisco-Linksys-X2000-300-Mbps-3-Port-10-100-Wireless-N-Router-with-ADSL2-Modem-/281009800557?pt=COMP_EN_Routers&hash=item416d7d456d Thanks in advance for any and all help.
  2. I tell my ma (with finger point for emphasis): "Don't talk crazy or you're going to the home." Works like a charm.
  3. My turtle is a psychotic man eater. But I still like him.
  4. And by so much more depth you mean maybe 1 additional choice every 10 games or so. Most games the choice of when to replace the pitcher and who to replace him with is trivial. It adds a ton to big games where you micro manage a ton but normal day to day games really don't have that much strategy involved. Tony La Russa would beg to differ.
  5. Hart has always looked slow. I can remember when people were calling him lazy and uncaring because his long, loping stride just didn't look like the typical guy's max-effort sprint. I also remember him saying he isn't as fast as he used to be, but I'd like to know just how "slow" he's become. He might still be faster than most ball players, but it's hard to tell because of the aforementioned perceptions.
  6. People keep talking about Hart having lost his speed, but does anyone know where to find actual numbers? Braun said in his statement after the positive test fiasco that these things are measured yearly and records are kept. I'd like to see Hart's numbers. Has he really lost a lot of speed or is this loss more of a perceived thing due to his never having really looked fast?
  7. I remember when the first popular rap song came out in 1979 or 1980. "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang was a bit of a novelty, but still had a nice beat to it and it was just a "fun" little song. In the mid 2000's, my stepsons were listening to "gangsta rap" and my comment was "That's not even music", which absolutely horrified me as soon as it came out of my mouth, because those were my mother's exact words about the music my friends and I listened to as teens. Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, KISS, etc. So, yeah... you've become your parents.
  8. As some of you already know, my wife (name withheld) is a Correctional Officer. Inmate threats happen from time to time and are mostly just a bunch of hot air. Unfortunately they just let one out that has threatened unnamed wife's life, as well as the life of a female Sergeant, that's crazy enough and has enough history to be taken seriously. This particular little turd also lives in the next town over, which is only 4 miles away. His picture has been sent to local law enforcement agencies, and our local cops have added an extra patrol past our place. His picture is also posted at each entrance to the house and in all of our vehicles. The female Sergeant mentioned above has taken the same measures. The wife is on lock-down. She isn't to leave the house without myself, my son in law, or a co-worker at her side. Just another day in the life of a Wisconsin public servant.
  9. Same comment that Nottso made above. It would only apply to the starting pitcher, you still would need to double switch with RP and when you actually took your SP out mid inning etc. Hahaha... the first quote was also mine. I tol' ya yesterday was a rough day. Thinking about it further, I might like your idea even better if I have it right You're saying the manager would have the choice to either bat the SP or to PH for him without the SP having to leave the game, yes? But if the manager does PH for the SP, that PH is done for the game unless he comes in on a double switch? Unless I'm REALLY missing something here, that's absolutely brilliant, as it adds even more strategy. We could disect and second-guess managers' decisions until our heads explode!
  10. Once the starter leaves, it's NL business as usual. When a pitcher's at-bat comes up, either he takes his swings or he's done. You wouldn't "declare" anyone, other than the starting pitcher/DH. This really isn't as complicated as you're trying to make it.
  11. Chase Headley: .286 .376 .498 .875 Aramis Ramirez: .300 .360 .540 .901 How does Headley win this?
  12. I was upset that T-Dogg was killed off. I was hoping for Merle to come back, go after T-Dogg, and for Darrel to defend T-Dogg.
  13. How so, if they did it like I want them to? I would think that they'd gain some, as NL teams would also add DH guys, or am I missing something? That could also have possibilities, but it would still put an end to double switches, wouldn't it? I could easily be missing something here as well. It's been a rough day.
  14. I've said for some time that I'd like to see the DH tied to the starting pitcher. When the starter is pulled, so must be the DH. This would stop pitchers from hitting, but still involve NL type strategy, which makes the game infinitely better.
  15. Ron Roenicke - James Taylor http://wqow.images.worldnow.com/images/14338262_BG1.jpg http://www.angelfire.com/music4/cmsbandlogos/jamestaylor/1.jpg http://media.mwcradio.com/mimesis/2010-11/02/Ron%20Roenicke%201_jpg_475x310_q85.jpg http://www.boomernet.com/assets/images/james_taylor_covers.jpg
  16. I remember when GS was due back for his first visit to County Stadium as a member of the visiting team. Bob & Brian on Lazer 103 were talking to a Brewers' pitcher (I don't remember which one). Anyways, the converation started with Bob saying to the pitcher "I've got 2 words for ya. Sheffield's ear." Anyone else remember that?
  17. This is pretty off topic, but it speaks to Loria's seemingly lack of interest in building a winner. My dad was a successful car dealer, and he met up with a Nascar guy at some event. The Nascar guy drove in the Nationwide series (Nascar's second tier) and was one of what's known as the "start n' park" guys; meaning he'd start the race, complete one lap, park the car and go home. Dad was intrigued by this and asked the guy why he'd go through all the preparation, investment, etc, just to run one lap. From there, the conversation went like this: Guy: Do you like what you do? Dad: Yeah. Guy: Are you good at it? Dad: I like to think so. Guy: Did you make two and a half million dollars last year? Dad: ...uh, no.
  18. Okay, I'll bite. Why? And what "value" that you could realistically hope to get in return would you consider equal to, or better than, Braun's value at his (relatively) ridiculously low salary? I just can't see it.
  19. Being older and pretty set in my ways, as well as being not very well versed at all in advanced metrics, I look at OPS, BA, RBI, HR in that order for batting, with SB and base running thrown into the mix for offense. For defense, it's mostly the eye test and position played as I really have a hard time understanding the defensive metrics and am not really convinced as to their accuracy/value. Mostly, as reillymcshane alluded to earlier, I ask myself what player I would take if I could have any player in the given league, assuming that every player in that league would always put up the exact same numbers. Edit: As I said earlier, 52 and Trout without a doubt.
  20. Random observations after watching the video: I was crushed when Koskie got hurt. Knowing what we know now, seeing the lineup on the video with Prince hitting 6th behind Jenkins and Koskie looks completely insane. One of my favorite Sheets comedy moments was when he was entering the stadium or had just gotten off the bus, looking possibly even more disheveled than usual, and a reporter asked if he was ready. Sheets never missed a step and replied "I roll outta bed ready. I thought everybody knew that."
  21. That. That right there is why Trout wins it in my book. And I'm 52... I think.
  22. Yes, thanks for taking the time to put the numbers together. It seems like Braun just keeps getting better, year after year.
  23. I would watch the World Series if that were the matchup. Would that be East Coast enough to make FOX happy? me too. The cool thing about those two teams is that they're close enough to be a Chi/Chi, La/La, NY/NY type billing, like a subway series or something, ya know? I think it'd be a really cool story, plus, I still love JJ, would love to see him in the world series I'll be pulling for Cincinatti. With the WS being won by NLC teams to years in a row, and Houston going to the AL, maybe we'll stop being considered "the weakest division in MLB." Of course if Cinci gets eliminated I still won't be able to pull for the Classies. Ever. For anything good. In the AL, I have to root for the 0's.
