  1. I remember way too many times during all the years of futility, hearing things like "good teams do the little things right," or "good teams find a way to win these close games." Guess what? Our guys are doing the little things right, and they're finding ways to win the close games. Like it or not, this is a good team.
  2. We have a Trex deck, and love it. It should last forever, with the only maintenance being a pressure-wash every year or 2. No painting, no staining, no warping, no rotting, etc.
  3. Come cut my grass.
  4. "Try and please everyone and you will please no one including yourself. Rock and roll." It's official. I love you.
  5. My guess is, that management would then say "The player was not available to us for 10 days, due to the player's own behavior. The team should not have to pay the player for 8 of those days." Edit: If the pitcher in question is making 10 million per year, 8 games worth of pay is just short of half a million dollars.
  6. I liked how the Cubs players sitting next to the dearly departed Gatorade dispenser "broke camp" when Z started swingin' the bat.
  7. Here's all of it.... http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090527&content_id=4990698&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc
  8. Sheepshead player, eh Brian?
  9. I hope this doesn't get moved to the IGT. I'm going to use an example from last night, but this has more to do with a trend that's there all the time. Hall's pose and stare at his medium-depth fly ball in the second inning last night is another prime example of "Billy being Billy." Think about this for a minute. If Hall runs the 40 in 5 seconds (which is actually not very good and I do not know Hall's actual time), that means he can cover 24 feet per second on average. That 1 second pose costs him 24 feet on the basepaths. 24 feet is a long way when trying to beat out a throw from the middle of the outfield if that ball is dropped, and means there's no way he'll ever see a "hustle" double. I wish Macha would bench him immediatley after every pose. Maybe fine him. Maybe make him do pushups ala the movie Major League. Something has to be done.
  10. I've thought for a while now that if Braun hits a homer against the Cards, he should sprint as hard as he can around the bases, and then slide into home in a cloud of dust. That might just send them completely over the edge.
  11. And the flip side is Rod Carew. Great hitter, but little success as Brewer's hitting coach.
  12. valpo, My wife actually commented during the game. She saw Berkman at the plate and said something along the lines of "He's built funny. Little bird legs on a big body." I had never really noticed it before; I always thought Berkman looked like Fred Flintstone.
  13. Winner. This one made me literally laugh out loud.
  14. This makes me a little sad, in my irrational old man kinda way. I always wanted Gwynn to do well with the crew. I can't help but root for likeable guys who display good character. Best of luck to you, young Mr. Gwynn.
  15. A real fan would be willing to "take one for the team." I'm just sayin'...
  16. Ehh. I was a teenager in the 70's. I dressed worse and did worse. May God forgive me.
  17. Wow. Just wow. Great interview. Brooks, you were always one of my favorites, and I was stunned when they let you go. I'm glad to see you here. I'd better just quit typing now, before I really start to babble.

  19. I was thinking the same thing. Man, do I love NL baseball.
  20. Gorman, That sounds like quite a crew ya got there. I bet you go through dog food about like we do. Jamie, Clubber did make the mess, but he made it from the top. The top of that rock makes a natural bowl, and was full of rainwater. Clubber got up there from the other side and had a drink. Still hoping for a "Mr. P" photoshop job.
  21. I've seen it a few times, and I'm very glad that Mark bought this team. I just can't help but like the guy and his whole family. They all seem very personable and down to Earth. I bet they'd be a blast to hang out with for a day.
  22. I really liked the Milwaukee Bears uni's from the Negro League tributes. I wish they'd bust those out slightly more often.
  23. Thanks, Gorman. He's the first of three adoptees in the household, and my very best friend. He's 8 years old now, and sometimes a little grumpy. The newest pup, George (possibly the world's largest St. Bernard) torments him mercilessly. When Clubber's had enough, it can get a little ugly. Luckily, we have Lilly the 9 pound Lhasa-Poo, who absolutely rules the roost. Neither one of 'em wants any of that. She's a terrorist. Now back to "Mr. P".... can one of the local photoshop gurus please make this happen? I just gotta see it.
