  1. Davis is the only guy who concerns me, especially with Skaggs left on the board. It smacks a bit of a need pick (never a good strategy) but of course I could be completely wrong about this, they might have had him rated mid-1st round which makes this a steal. But I don't like the wrist injury at all; I don't like the tweener talk, and I don't like the pick recognition talk either--no amount of bat speed is gonna make up for poor eyes. I know I'm nit-picking, and I only know what I read, so I'm far from an expert, but this one makes me uneasy on an otherwise great first day.
  2. Gotta love Arnett's slot. That's just nasty against right-handers. Good pick Bruce!
  3. I'm in the Myers camp
  4. One of the Mock drafts out there (I can't remember which one) predicts the Brewers take Myers.
  5. It's my impression that Escobar has a very "young" body, even for his young age. He will get bigger, stronger. This indeed might cause him to improve relatively late in comparison to other prospects. A year and a half to two years might prove fruitful. I wouldn't say that about any other Brewer prospect I know, but it seems like he might be an anomaly.
  6. I don't think Hart has much trade value. Maybe he gets you a #4 pitcher. He can run, play pretty good defense, but not much else. Okay, maybe some occasional power. It's gotta be a package.
  7. I think the Reds have more upside than the Crew right not, but they're not better. Phillips better say his team is better, and believe it, or he's no teammate of mine.
  8. I hope they save their money for Cameron, not Jason. Cheap, cheap, cheap or nothing.
  9. The whole idea that we have a "window of opportunity" scares me. I understand it, and it may be perfectly legitimate way of doing things in other sports, but I believe it will lead to disaster in Milwaukee. We've got to hold on to our very best prospects in order to create continuity from year to year. It's not good enough to play for one in every five/six years. As it stands I think the Brewers can be competitive until the great exodus (Fielder, Hardy) but with Escobar in the wings that leaves only the Brewers looking for a young first baseman, which they still may have time to develop or trade for. But trading for high priced veterans weakens the foundation of the organization. They have to look for young players who are blocked long term in other organizations who can be had for adequate major leaguers or 2nd tier prospects.
  10. If teams and coaches are being punished why not agents?
  11. In the end I think trading for Peavy would be a mistake. Too much payroll, high risk, and the fact that the Brewers must be a prospect driven team. I am not a fan of Parra at all. I honestly don't see the potential others see, but I'm in love with Parra's contract. If we do trade for Peavy I'd make them take one bad Milwaukee contract, and since they won't this should be a big no go.
  12. He's a shortstop. I don't like the move to 2b. I'd like to see him stay in AAA all year and half of next year. He had to repeat AA didn't he? And that went really well. I believe his body has to mature even more. It seems his body is behind his skill set. When they match up I think we'll have the doubles hitter we need so that he can contribute meaningfully on offense.
  13. I love the Z-man. Whadda think, allow him to open-carry when he's on the mound? Now, there would be some real fireworks, not this little boy temper tantrum.
  14. Why not just go the other way? Institute a steroid requirement. Have the players get shot up on a daily basis. If anyone refuses they are banned for life. Oh...and lets make it the really heinous steroids--you know, the ones that will ensure their deaths by 50 years old. Then I'd pay them a lot of money--and you know what? At that point they'd deserve it. Then I'd make sure I'd follow their story, filming them at different times of their demise. Current major leaguers would be required to watch these archives--of course we'd pay them bonuses for staying awake. Heck we could pay Scott Boras clients double. Come to think of it, in the spirit of equality, we should force owners and agents to shoot up on a daily basis. It would certainly level the playing field.
  15. Parra's a lefty with stuff--gotta go through the growing pains. Escobar covers us in the middle infield, so I don't think you can trade him. Peavy's gonna cost too much later on--this trade doesn't happen I think.
  16. FLA (2-2) ATL (1-2) COL (2-1) CWS (3-0) CLE (2-1) DET (0-3) MIN (1-2) SF (2-1) NYM (2-1) 15-13 18HRs
  17. Rivera isn't a stud, but he's less bad at this point. He's a heady guy, follows the game plan and gives us some slugging at times. At this point I'd actually be for a 50/50 split. And at the risk of repeating myself, I'd be all about straight platoons at 2B,3B,RF and a significant non-traditional platoon at C.
  18. Yeah, I do that sometimes. Not this time though. I really was just trying to understand Lawrie, knowing full well just about everyone here knows more about minor leaguers than me. As far as sellers go...I just don't see how we are going to be playoff bound with that starting staff. Eventually it's got to get ugly...losing Weeks, Hart heading south on a permanent basis...oh geez, here I go again!
  19. Okay, but I hear scouts talk all the time about "lithe" body, or optimum height, etc. That's a good question about Albert or Wright. It's simply not enough to imitate another player,
  20. I think a bad series in Minneapolis was inevitable given the laws of competitive balance. But I so do admire the Twinkies organization. I love to watch them play. I dream of the day when the Crew are that disciplined on the field and in upper management. I think we're getting there, but we'll have to figure out the whole development of pitcher's thing first. Now it's time for some payback in Brewtown.
  21. I've got a whole stack of disco records if that'd help the celebration?
  22. Yeah, I've seen him twice, once in person. And the comparison just screamed out. I immediately got a lump in my throat, but of course this is a most definite first impression. The stats Trwi7 provided are some comfort, but I also know that organizations can unwittingly lean toward types of players. He does look like a confident young man (in the best sense of the phrase) but you could tell that he's still inexperienced (which is only to be expected) when compared to Taylor Green, who just exudes professionalism (again in the best sense of the word). But Lawrie's stance just drives me nuts. Why all the needless complication? Chris Dennis on the other hand looks so quiet and prepared when he bats--and then boom, the guy just explodes on the ball (again just first impression) but boy oh boy I like the look of that guy.
  23. First let me say, or reiterate, I know nothing about minor leaguers. What I'm really looking for is reassurance by asking others for their expertise. So here it goes. When I see Lawrie, I see Bill Hall--same build, same weird stance, powerful, compact, capable in field of making tough plays, but botches the easy ones sometimes. Lawrie looks to be a better base runner, but he doesn't appear to be any faster than Hall. Thanks in advance for any responses.
  24. Not a facetious question Crew07. Given your evaluation should the Brewers concentrate on bats early and draft upside or special circumstances pitching later? Is there such a thing as a long term organizational blind spot when it comes to pitching, and a long term organizational expertise when it comes to hitters?
  25. I do believe that Hart will become a problem increasingly. If not a strict Gerut/Hart platoon we are going to suffer. But in the end I've got to side with those who aren't interested in Holliday, Pitching, pitching, pitching. Though in the end I think the Crew are more likely to be sellers than buyers.
