  1. When I saw them the other day against the Mets, they were awful. They were phoning it in, making mistakes, whiny-pouty body language. I wouldn't be surprised if they went 14-14 in August even if they are playing mostly little leaguers. I think they'll stay in 4th.
  2. If it ended now I think Prince would deserve it. But they'd still give it to Kemp, not based on production (he's a legit choice) but based on Market.
  3. Cards (1-2) @Astros (2-1) @Cards (0-3) Pirates (1-2) Dodgers (3-1) @Mets (1-2) @Pirates (2-2) Cubs (2-1) Cards (1-1) 13-15 I'm guessing they're 2 to 3 games out with a September schedule that will allow them to cut into the Cardinals lead. How much?
  4. I'm satisfied with the trades given the enormous holes we had, and the very little firepower on the minor league level we had to give up. K-Rod will help significantly in high leverage situations, and I really like the Hairston move. The Cards hurt us when they got Jackson, but Furcal is done. He was a talent; he's a basketcase now. it's gonna come down to the wire and two of the three teams are going to be disappointed. I truly believe the Cards are better than us without Rickie, but they're also more fragile, and I'm counting on them hitting some potholes along the way.
  5. I like this move more than the Lopez move. It's subtle and because of his versatility potentially a lot more productive. Not a big whoop, but a nice one Dougie.
  6. There's a third option: Green is going to be traded for whoever the Brewers have lined up in a weekend trade.
  7. I did something similar to my ankle. I was in a cast for 2 months and rehabbed for 1 month before I could play again. Now that was many years ago, and treatments are so superior now I'll guess he halves that time. I'll say 5 weeks for Weeks. But I'm gutted by this. Rickie is my fav Brewer. I'm gonna kill a fatted calf for him tonight. Hoping...
  8. I would never believe anything other than your comments were meant in a civilized tone. This is the reason I try to tread the middle path and qualify what I say. I don't think Taylor Green will be any better than Casey, but there's a chance he will be. Hence my comments on "play him" and he could be lightning in a bottle. I just don't think it will happen. A discussion forum is only effective if it honors multiple points of view, knowing full well some of those will be correct, incorrect, or somewhere in the middle. Thanks for letting me have my say.
  9. Green, like Caleb Gindl, is putting up decent numbers at Nashville without much fanfare, positioning himself for a MLB backup role in the near future. He's played third base almost exclusively since 2007, but he's good enough at second to have played there while Eric Farris was manning shortstop. Green has a well-rounded base of skills, hitting for a decent average and surprising power, plus a walk rate that's rebounded to its 2008 level. If he's lucky, he could have Casey McGehee's career; more likely, he'll have the career McGehee was ticketed for before breaking out in 2009: a 2B/3B reserve. Interestingly, the McGehee parallel even extends to dabbling at the catcher position.
  10. Okay, so you guys are going to ignore my repeated "play him then" comment and the Hurricane Hazel reference. I just don't like him, probably because he's hitting AAA better than AA (I always consider AA the better measuring tool) and I have no faith in players who have had the injuries he's had, especially the wrist. I'm wary of players who don't have a complete season at a level unless they're overpowering the league like Nick Ramirez, and I hardly think Taylor is overpowering AAA. I really don't care if they bring him up--at least it will be interesting. And you can insert the "I hope I'm wrong" comment here as well. I just don't think he'll be any better offensively than Casey. Admittedly, a brick on three wheels will be better defensively than Casey.
  11. Okay. Based on 1) a little too old to be a true prospect, 2) only half a season at AAA, and 3) injury prone. I just think there's as much chance that he's adequate as Casey coming back. And since Casey has actually done it for a season and a half I really think it's a push. And if Green is the PTBNL I think that 30 innings of K-Rod is a better deal especially with the 8th inning meltdowns the Brewers have experienced this year. And as far as the argument that he's a top prospect well, prospects fall and rise continually. Hey he might be good--play him. But a TOP prospect--no way. a prospect, maybe, give him a shot.
  12. Endaround: I agree with 1 and 3. But even manure has a price and other teams who need a shortstop have more players to trade than Dougie. Why would I want anything the Brewers had to offer? Okay give me Peralta or Gamel and another player and I'll give you Barmes. Green gonna hit? I don't think so. He's not a power hitter; he's had half a season a AAA. And his progress through the minors was anything but smooth. I think it'll take Green a least half a season not to be embarrassed by major league pitchers, but by then nothing will have changed. If you want to call him up do so. And I agree he could even go all Hurricane Hazel on the National League, but I doubt it. By all means call him up; just don't expect anything.
  13. I'm okay with Green being one of the PTBNLers. I don't think he's anything more than a back up or sometime platoon. Not that back ups aren't valuable; it just makes the trade seem more fair. If we had a real minor league system Green would be way down the list.
  14. There's no way Doug is going to make a move now because of the two mini-streaks they're on. But that's neither here nor there. I just don't think there's anything significantly better to be had. Green only looks like a slight upgrade defensively and I'd bet dollars to donuts he hits even worse. And with the total crap available at ss other than Ramirez and Reyes, neither who are going anywhere, we'll just have to live with Yuni.
  15. Right or wrong (and I believe he did nothing wrong) this will cost Nyjer. He's put a target on his back that fans in other cities will pick up on. It has the potential to be a distraction and the Brewers really can't afford that because they're not good enough. There will always be a debate between those who think it's fun and those who think it's childish--it's the nature of the beast. But one thing is sure, everyone reaps what they sow. If it is really harmless, then no harm will come. But if T-Plush is really meant to stick it to others it will be stuck back.
  16. My favorite thing to watch in all of baseball was a Robin Yount triple--man could he glide/stride, but...nowdays I love the way the ball comes off of Rickie's bat, and I absolutely get stoked when Carlos flags down some impossible catch. Shockingly I've become a quiet fan of his. I'd love to see him improve and reach that .330 obp, but I'll not hold my breath for it, no siree.
  17. I honestly don't hold it against Yuni. He doesn't bother me because he's talentless. It's not his fault guys--it's the idiots who let him play; they upset me. Josh Wilson? I have a sneaking suspicion that he does not even have a modicum more talent than Yuni. It's a bell curve world and the Yuni/Josh is the hind teat on the chart. (sorry for the mixed metaphor) The guy who really makes me cringe is Wolf. Everytime he pitches he publicly throws our young catcher under the bus because he's not man enough to be a team player. I cannot wait for him to leave Milwaukee. I hope the ending is ignoble. Love to watch Weeks--fav Brewer, but it's hard to listen to him postgame.
  18. I'll go with Gennett and Manzanillo (although I wish it was Arnett)
  19. Duh...got it...thanks. Good point on Loe. What a motivator for Doug.
  20. I don't mean this to be sarcastic in any way. If we just got K-Rod on the cheap, how does that make Bell more expensive? Doesn't taking a team who needs a reliever out of the equation create a smaller, less expensive market?
  21. If Thornburg is included I will come to Melvin's house while he is sleeping and write dummy on his forehead. But seriously this scares me. What do we have to give? I'm hoping Rivas and someone from the lower levels--maybe Gennet or something.
  22. I think its going to come down to staying healthy. With almost no trading chips to improve the team, we've got to retain our health. I agree that the upcoming road trip will be important. If they can go 4-7 or 5-6 I think it'll keep their attitude stable. I also agree that they can't keep playing so well at home and so poorly on the road. The offense should remain very inconsistent with so many black holes in the bottom half of the line up. So that leaves it to the starting rotation to see us through. If Narveson can show just a little improvement and Greinke can work things out, if Wolf can keep his season going and Gallardo goes to his change up more often, then we'll minimize the cosmological destructive force that is our infield defense and bullpen. In that case I can even see the Crew pulling away for a bit, maybe winning the division by 5 games or so. Go Crew!
  23. I think the article just reinforces the idea: if you're not hitting you better be fielding. Here that Casey and Yuni.
  24. I'm just so happy that Weeks made it. Rickie is one of those "come-in-early-stay-late-players" that I love. He really has improved, although we weren't always convinced he would. Nice job Rickie! Bravo!
  25. I'd jump from the ledge. I suspect most of us see the writing on the wall, and suicide might be less painful. My own form of suicide from this date on will be to follow, but expect nothing. I'll use my old coping mechanism--expect the loss and look for small signs here and there that point to some kind of long term solution, which Zach doesn't represent.
