  1. Not a chance do I condone a multi year deal. Love the guy but he’s due for regression. I might extend Hader and Knebel but even that is risky. In truth I’d be amenable to trading Jeremy for future assets though that will never happen in our “win now” mode. Hope I’m wrong cause he’s a true blue guy.
  2. Sometimes, as a small market team, you’ve just got to believe in your youngsters. Small market teams can’t compete for the biggest stars and they can’t overpay for depth. Eventually you have to trust your youth, the evaluators who first saw them, the minor league coaches that developed them. I think, that Stearns thinks, this is Keston’s Year. Spanerez until the all-star game and then unleash the beast. I’ll go out on a limb and say Huira has an .803 OPS the second half of the season.
  3. Pollock looks like a classic overpay for a player who might be on the continuous downward slope. I think a Pederson platoon will be worth more.
  4. Cards 94 Cubs. 88 Brewers 86 Reds. 86 Pirates. 77 I expect big regression in the bullpen. Santana trade was a mistake. Jimmy just too big of a question mark. Starters in general lack ceiling, although they have decent floor. Braun gonna be tough to justify. 1st base doesn’t fill me with confidence. Loss of the pitching coach to division rival was another mistake. I’m just a nervous nelly I hope.
  5. The Baines election is another embarrassment. Smith deserves his place. But more importantly this committee, which should abandoned, is evidence for an inner sanctum of only the very best, limited to say 30 players or less. With this we can ignore the shameful and concentrate on the most high. When I was young Cooperstown was on my bucket list; it has long since disappeared from my must-dos.
  6. Just don’t like it. Marlins are so majestic, so strong. I’d go silver green blue—you know, like the fish. Not like disco/black light/dance party. Ugh.
  7. Yeah, I hear you about Gray. I felt a little guilty rating him that low, but it’s just a personal prejudice. He’s off the charts physically and he can’t hit the ball. If he hits eventually, he’s an absolute monster and I’m ecstatic to be wrong.
  8. 1. Keston Huira: seems so obvious, I just wonder about that arm/elbow 2. Brice Turang: I’m betting his “no one standout tool” equals a well balanced major leaguer 3. Tristan Lutz: this guy owns the warning track with his line drives; when he adds a few feet they’ll be banging off the wall, another few feet and they’re over the fence 4. Lucas Erceg: when he finds consistency we can all get excited 5. Zack Brown: solid end of the rotation guy 6. Payton Henry: love this guy’s game, lithe, a little whip in his bat, another Lucroy? 7. Jacob Nottingham: health please 8. Adrian Houser: another reliever in the pipeline, it seems like we’re really starting to stockpile bullpen and catchers 9. Trey Supak: seems like he’s got more in his trunk than Brown, but maybe not the make up—why does he seem fragile to me? 10. Corey Ray: I hope I’m wrong, there’s a reason I’m not a talent scout, but nothing about him gives me hope for anything other than an athletic back up, maybe 11. Chad McClanahan: seems so teachable 12. Jake Gatewood 13. Mauricio Dubon: don’t like that injury given he’s probably got to maximize every attribute he’s got 14. Aaron Ashby: another 3,4,5 with a potential ko breaking ball, loved watching him in person, really composed 15. Je’Von Ward: here’s hoping for that rangy, medium power, base stealer who can play both corners well 16. Pablo Abreu 17. Cody Ponce 18. David Fry 19. Braden Webb 20. Caden Lemons 21. Carlos Rodriquez 22. Mario Feliciano 23. Justin Jarvis 24. Joe Gray 25. Marcos Diplan
  9. I simply can’t take watching playoff sports. I haven’t seen any or listened to any since 1978. My team always loses and so I stopped punishing myself. I changed my whole approach. All my thoughts and emotions go into the regular season, most of all just enjoying the story and the ebb and flow. This season was my all time favorite season for my beloved Brewers and no amount of post season games are gonna take away its pleasure. That was 163 wonderful games. They proved they’re the best team in the National League and these tournament games are just a slap in the face for all the hard work they put in. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
  10. You keep taking flyers on big arms I say. Most wont pan out, but if you can get one or two to find himself then you got an asset. Assets are good.
  11. Cutting him would be pretty reactionary. This guy has been a decent to good reliever for a number of years. His slump is very inconvenient for sure. I think he’ll find himself, but maybe it costs us. I hope not.
  12. 1. Hiura 2. Turang 3. Corbin Burnes 4. Zack Brown 5. Tristan Lutz 6. Corey Ray 7. Payton Henry 8. Adrian Houser 9. Je’Von Ward 10. Lucas Erceg 11. Pablo Abreu 12. Mauricio Dubon 13. Mario Feliciano 14. Caden Lemons 15. Jacob Nottingham 16. Cody Ponce 17. Chad Maclanahan 18. Demi Orimoloye 19. Troy Stokes 20. Aaron Ashby 21. Larry Ernesto 22. Jesus Chirinos 23. Trey Supak 24. David Fry 25. Nick Ramirez Wow. It seems we’ve traded minor league depth for Major league depth. As it should be I suppose. But until I really forced myself to do this I just assumed I’d feel pretty decent about our system, but except for the first 5 or 6 it all seems like long shots, back ups, replacement level players etc. Although this has got to be the best bunch of catchers we’ve had in my over 40 years of being a Brewer fan.
  13. Archer is one of my favorite players in the majors—a most personable, intelligent human. But he’s not young anymore and he’s been inconsistent. Tyler and Meadows are about right. If that ptbnl really is substantial then I think the Rays got the better of the deal.
  14. The more I think about this trade the more I like it because it sets up next year. We’ll almost certainly lose the Moose, and almost just as certainly strengthen the starting staff in the off season. I don’t think we’re WS bound this year, but I could see it next year. If that’s the case it could be a brilliant preemptive move on Stearns’ part. But still, Carmona hurts, really hurts. Here’s hoping that Turang (sic?) makes us all scoff at missing Carmona. In DS We Trust.
  15. I’m really uncomfortable with this trade, but something had to be done. With Archer and Gausmann being traded today this feels like a forced move. So it’s up to us bludgeoning other teams to death and relying on an excellent bullpen. Carmona hurts. The other two I had increasingly poor opinion of, but then again I’m hardly a professional evaluator. The roster lacks balance it seems, maybe Burnes goes back to starting? I just don’t know. I will say that losing Villar seems like addition by subtraction.
  16. Actually I can see this as a part of the O’s trade, especially if Stearns see Gausmann as a #1 or #2 starter in the NL. Of course then Schoop has to be included.
  17. Just give me this kind of trade once every two years. Young controllable talent, better than sex, drugs, and rock n roll!
  18. Awesome Joey. Hilarious!
  19. Damn right brother! There is absolutely no need for a shortstop. Now go it Dozier on the cheap.
  20. I suggested this more than a month ago and really got raked over the coals for it. But I agree. Castro is better than any of them. Would love it. I’d also like JT and would back up the truck prospect wise if we could get both.
  21. I really can’t see Soria sticking around, so count me in the rental group that just hates rentals—give me years of Brantley and Cain instead. However they do have a severe 40 man problem next year so expect more Kodi types to be leaving soon. Although dumping TS and Villar et al will help.
  22. Where is his power? Holed up in rat infested motel with a crack-addicted hooker as far as I can tell. Seriously though, I hope this is the beginning of a turn around. They really do need a guy who can stay healthy and be productive. The Braun thing? This might be the beginning of the end. Wish it would end better than the constant trips to the DL. How many All-Star type baseball players today would want to spend their entire career in Milwaukee. For that alone I’m will to forgive him his faults.
  23. I think the Brewers are a bit of a wounded bird right now. The excitement of the Machado trade, and the Dodgers general upward trend might extend our recent problems. The Dodgers should be pumped up. I think DS will make two moves, one arm and one bat, but he won’t be giving away much of anything in the upper echelon of our system. I expect we steady ourselves by early August and then take a run at the wild card. As said about twelve times already on this thread, the Brewers never were in a position to beat out the Cubs, but I could see them still ending up with the 3rd or 4th best record in the NL. What I hope most of all is that DS proves a team can still make the playoffs without limiting they’re future with CC and Greinke type moves.
  24. I think he has a chance to be quite a good hitter, but until the Brewers get him the surgery they’ll never truly know what they have. Plus his defensive development will continue to lag behind. Let’s put KH under the knife and give him a real chance! I was listening to a podcast the other day and the pundit, who was being serious, said that TJ surgery is basically a rite of passage. It’s just something that needs to be done and then the progress an begin.
  25. Miller will never be ready to play short. Arica is the present and the future. Maybe, just maybe Miller’s bat plays as a second base pinch hitter. Maybe he spells Arica in a blow out. He’s a poor baseball player, although I do recognize that this administration has a track record of of catching lightning in a bottle. Sogard, TS, now Miller. Use them temporarily and then dispose—please.
