  1. Vogelbach shirseys are going to be flying off the shelves next season.
  2. If Vogelbach can recapture any of the magic he had in the first half of last season the dude is going to be a cult favorite in Milwaukee.
  3. Alex Gonzalez comes to mind. Kevin Barker was pretty bad as well. How about Sean Berry as Sal Bando's big free agent acquisition in 1999?
  4. Sean Doolittle said it best when Summer Camp started in reference to COVID, but I feel like it applies here too, sports are a reward for a functioning society.
  5. Just following on Gameday...what happened? Looping line drive that dropped just in front of Gamel, runner had to hold up because he wasn't sure if it would be caught. Gamel threw home and got the force out.
  6. Thanks, figured it had to be Bauer related. He’s pitching like he tipped back a few Budweisers. More info if you're interested, Budweiser offered to released special cans if he broke the club's strikeout record tonight: https://www.fox19.com/2020/08/24/bauer-strikeouts-away-record-viral-hold-my-beer-challenge/
  7. I said in the game thread last night right after it happened, when the Brewers are in the playoffs, we'll be looking back to Freddy with the back-to-back Ks to Baez and Schwarber followed by the 3-run bomb by Yelich as the turning point of the season. Brewers are winning the next two at Wrigley, book it.
  8. When the Brewers are in the playoffs, we'll be looking back to Freddy with the back-to-back Ks to Baez and Schwarber followed by the 3-run bomb by Yelich as the turning point of the season.
  9. You shouldn't have been able to. If you're in the Minneapolis area all Twins games, home and away, should be blacked out. Teams make lots of money on local TV deals. The local channels make their money on commercials. The home market games are blacked out on MLB.TV to force you to watch the local channel so the ad dollars and TV deal money stays rolling in.
  10. WIthout fans I don't think it matters all that much. THere's going to be a fair amount of teams that lose home games this year. The BLue Jays won't even see Toronto, so I'm not going to complain about playing 31 games out of 60 on the road. This season is presenting a lot of unique challenges, and if the season even gets completed, let alone have a few odd schedule quirks along the way, the players and everyone else will be lucky to see it through to the end. Yeah, it's not going to be like that Marlins series in Milwaukee where the Marlins were the home team due to the hurricane and the stadium was filled with Brewer fans. Even though it's in Busch Stadium the fake crowd noise will be cheering for the Brewers and the scoreboards will have Brewer-centric graphics like it was a home game.
  11. Vina, Cirillo, Jenkins, Burnitz, Nilsson, Loretta, the '99 team had a great offense, it was their pitching that was awful. This lineup is 2002 territory.
  12. Why are these games so late when there's no fans? They start at 7 to allow people to get to the ballpark after work, but with no fans start the games at 6. We're in the top of the 8th and it's already past 10.
  13. With their win on Opening Day, this marks the first time the Marlins have been in first place after June 27th.
  14. MLB has released the 2021 schedule: https://www.mlb.com/brewers/schedule/2021-04 A bit odd as the new season hasn't even started yet, but they're doing it as a way for teams to market deferring 2020 ticket payments to 2021. Brewers open at home vs. the Twins. Interleague is against the AL Central again, we get home-and-home with the Twins, Royals and Tigers, along with a home series against the White Sox and a road series against the Indians.
  15. Because they have to play 60 games in 66 days, there's no time for teams to have that many days off.
  16. Shorter flights, no cross-country trips, and it's mandated in the CBA that any trips spanning two time zones requires an off day. With fewer off days, that won't be an issue. Doesn't affect a team like the Brewers as much being in the midwest, but it probably gets old playing on the Mariners where the shortest flight to another stadium is Oakland.
  17. They proposed an 82 game season if the players took reduced salaries, because the more games they play without fans, the more money they lose. The 50 game proposal is the amount of games they'd agree to with paying the players the amount they already agreed upon when the season was first shut down, and they're saying they could force the players to play it since there's already an agreement for those salaries.
  18. Very cool to see Rickie's and Prince's first HR game, because I was actually at that one. Bonus is a newly drafted and signed Braun in the booth for a half inning. That said, Daron Sutton and Bob Brainerd are like nails on a chalkboard, good lord were they both just awful.
  19. I think Braun will end up being the DH the majority of the games. This'll help keep Braun's bat in the lineup and keep him from wearing down. Instead of only playing 4-5 games a week he can play close to every game and only play the field sparingly. That way you have Yelich/Cain/Garcia with Gamel as the primary backup in the OF and split 1B between Smoak/Gyorko/Holt.
  20. Anyone ever play quizzes on Sporcle? They're good ways to pass the time, basically you have a time limit to enter as many items in a category that you can. There are some pretty good Brewer ones, and they'll make you kick yourself for forgetting an obvious one or remind you of a player you'd long forgotten. Here are a couple of good ones: Top 50 HR hitters in Brewers history - I sadly only managed a 71% on this one, a few "How'd I forget him?" and a few I'd never think of if given hours. Brewers Opening Day Lineups of the 2010s - Did a much better 90% on this one, but there were a few names I couldn't believe were opening day starters. I won't name any here and ruin the fun. Post some other ones, let's compare scores!
  21. Yeah, if you do a scenario where the three division winners get byes you'd have to have 10 wild card teams and five first round series to narrow the field to eight. Otherwise you could just take the top 8 teams at the end of the season and go from there.
  22. My guess would be the AL and NL Central would combine into one division. Likewise for the Easts and Wests. If it's a 100 game season, it could be 11 games vs 8 teams and 12 games vs the 9th. I wonder if they would stick to 3 and 4 game series or to reduce travel go with 5 and 6 game series so they only travel to each opposing city once.
