  1. Some old roommates and I had this discussion once, and I'm curious what you all think. Keep in mind, there may or may not have been alcohol involved in this discussion. In the case of animated shows, we came to the agreement that the theme song can determine the success. The Simpsons had a great theme song, and much success. Same goes for Family Guy, even though their success was a result of the underground. But what about Futurama? Bad theme song = no success. That show was absolutely hilarious, and we couldn't think of any reason why it wouldn't be a hit, so we figured the only logical solution is the bad theme song.
  2. Says you, the self described music elitist. Believe it or not there is an area in between "thought & exploration" and "background noise." It's not as black and white as you make it sound. There's nothing wrong with someone using music as a means of escape for example. They can relate to the band, the lyrics, all the other kids in the crowd at the concert that are just like them, forgetting about their crappy job/school/parents/whatever for a couple of hours. The lyrics to "Photograph" for example, corny as they are, evoke a certain time and place for a whole lot of people. I'm not going to begrudge someone for that and somehow claim that they're misusing music and they should be ashamed of themselves because they're not critically analying the lyrics and the chord progression. I never once said that my opinion was unquestionable, so I'm not quite sure where your tone is coming from. That said, I'll explain to you why I feel the way I feel. I have put a lot of time...A LOT of time...into my music. I went crazy trying to learn the ins and outs of music through 6 years of music theory and music history, and now a group of guys pick up some guitars and a microphone and their "contribution" is worth millions of dollars? That doesn't sit right with me.
  3. Would the alternative be "writing good music"? And let's be honest, they're not "making a living at it." They're making millions. It's quite possible to write and play music for the sake of music and make a living at it. From what I can tell, they write and play music for the sake of money and fame. There's a difference.
  4. Wait no longer. They're sellouts. Referring back to page 1 of this thread, I'm a music elitist. I love Beethoven and Haydn, and I don't care for Mozart. They write music that appeals to the masses because the masses don't want to have to think about what they're listening to. Music is meant to be thought about and explored, not used as background noise. I know about a million people that could both write and perform the kind of crap that's put out there by most pop rock bands, and the reason is because it's so incredibly simple. It's 2 or 3 power chords and some painful singing sounds. That's the reason so little of this music stands the test of time; it gets annoying and forgotten so easily because there really isn't much to remember. If you want to listen to music and not think about it, then Nickleback is for you. But John Cage would be very disappointed in you. "It is better to make a piece of music than to perform one, better to perform one than to listen to one, better to listen to one than to misuse it as a means of distraction, entertainment, or acquisition of 'culture'."
  5. I'm astounded that this hasn't been mentioned. Greatest theme song ever, and it's not even close. Tank! from Cowboy Bebop And since I can't figure out how to put the youtube thing on here, http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. The Shawshank Redemption Troy A Few Good Men (You can't handle the truth!!!)
  7. They're kinda random. The best way to tell that one is coming is by signing up for the site and the newsletter. When you get a Woot newsletter in your email, there will probably be a woot-off in the next couple days. This past week, the newsletter came out on Tuesday, and the woot-off was Friday. I believe if you click on "blog" it goes back through the list of items.
  8. Looks like the woot-off is done. I got the remote control helicopter and a wireless keyboard, but I got home right after the bag o' crap.
  9. Anyone ever try the micro remote control helicopter? I've had a long day and needed some therapy, so I bought one.
  10. I wouldn't think there is anyone that's necessarily considered a "threat" to hit 60 Hr's. Hitters can be legitimate 40-50 Hr guys, but I don't think you'll ever hear that someone is a "60 HR guy". I tend to think if a guy is considered a threat to hit 40-50, he has the power to possibly hit 60. I would think a guy who normally hits 45 would have a better chance of hitting 60 than a guy that normally hits 5 has of hitting 20...if that makes sense.
  11. Woot-off now
  12. Deal blocked http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3244818
  13. He showed me enough in 76 at-bats to "prove" to me that he's a better bat that Counsell or Nunez. I don't care if he wasn't a top prospect. I don't care if he's 32 years-old. He can hit.
  14. So when you woke up, did you just assume that you had slept only an hour?
  15. Dangit, I just got the newsletter and realized I'm flat broke. This sucks.
  16. This is #1 for me. My absolute favorite time of year in in May and early June when it's about 60-70 degrees outside, I have all the windows open, the birds are chirping, people are talking outside because it's warm enough to walk around, the Brewers are on TV, and the sun is pouring in. Aaahhh, I can't wait. I also refuse to complain on 90 degree days. I quit that a couple years ago and decided to think about how cold the winter is before I complain about how hot the summer is. I love hot weather. Additionally, my girlfriend likes to wear big bulky sweatshirts and sweatpants in the winter and tight, revealing clothes in the summer. I really really can't wait until summer.
  17. As Casey just said, he was clearly stating that he hit 40 home runs and that they were "mostly" against right-handers. Craig Counsell being mentioned anywhere in a fantasy article shows the worth of the article. That is, unless you have a 500 player team. And for some reason, Karabell has been in love with Dave Bush for a long time. Doesn't seem to care about anyone except Fielder, Braun, and Dave Bush.
  18. I officially don't ever want to play that game. Thanks for the warning TLB http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. The Show was alright, but I just think the MVP '05 game was ahead of The Show '07 in several areas, which makes me wonder how good MVP could be right now if they continued making MLB games (I haven't tried the NCAA versions). For me, it's not as much about graphics as it is about content. I don't think The Show puts as much thought into what interests baseball fans...well, at least this baseball fan. An average baseball game with superior graphics is still just an average baseball game to me.
  20. Nothing new to add...all-time I would say Baseball Stars by a long, long shot. The Show still hasn't matched MVP '05, which I would say is second all-time. I never actually owned Baseball Stars, but it was one of those "rent to own" deals where we rented it but didn't take it back for about 2 months. I was supposed to get it for my birthday, but my parents couldn't find it so they got me Super Mario 3...which I conquered in about a week and was once again pissed that I didn't have Baseball Stars. Speaking of which, does anyone know how I can play Baseball Stars without having to buy an old Nintendo and somehow find the game?
  21. In the entire league, I would probably say Hanley Ramirez. On the Brewers, either Braun or Hart.
  22. I thought of that as well because I haven't really paid much attention to him since he got traded. Weird how he was projected a top prospect in our organization, gets traded, and suddenly his ceiling is a #4 guy. I can't find it right now, but I read something from a San Diego paper that said all the guys the Padres got from us had statistics that were much higher than their actual abilities. Last year, Inman was #75 in the top 100 from Baseball Prospectus. He was also the 3rd highest prospect in the Brewers farm, from what I can see (behind Yo and Braun).
  23. That is dorky...but I'm dorky...therefore it is good http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Can't say I would be completely in, but I would probably enjoy hanging out with you guys for a couple games.
  24. I guess it's just cos I moved from Oshkosh to the Twin Cities that by comparison I remember Oshkosh as being dull, but I remember Oshkosh as being dull. I do love The Magnet, tho. Oshkosh is still pretty dull. I suppose if you like the house party scene, it can be kinda cool. The jazz scene is picking up in the area, too.Never been a fan of the Magnet, though...I go across the street to Peabody's Ale House. Especially on Sunday nights for the Jazz Orgy. It's still there. Just had it about 2 weeks ago, and still delicious http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. www.livescience.com Lots of cool articles on new things going on in science, and it covers a lot of areas...space (my favorite), technology, health, environment, and several others. Plus it has some interesting Top 10 lists. I suggest the popular Top 10 Ways to Destroy Earth...funny stuff.
