Helena 5 Missoula (D'Backs) 4 Box Score This game should not have ended this close. On two occasions in the bottom of the 8th, the Brewers had what appeared to be strike-3's looking. Both times, the ump did not call it. Steve stated that the strike zone appeared to get squeezed late in the game. So annoying. Then, with 2 outs and the tying run on 3rd, a curve ball headed for Socrates Brito's head instead hit his still cocked bat and went fair down the 1st base line where an easy out was made. Crazy. Leonard Lorenzo was dominant in this one. 5 IP 2 H 1 R 1 ER 2 BB 7 K 1 WP 1 HBP 3:2 GO:FO. Lorenzo is certainly on course for a full season assignment next season. On one particularly nice instinctual play, Lorenzo pick off the runner and without making a throw, he retired the runner unassisted. Steve was impressed. Taylor Mangum pitched much better than his line as he suffered the collateral damage from the 8th inning. He also drew praise for his hard, sharp slider. Connor Whalen allowed 2 Mangum runners to score and Mike White got the 1-out save. Ruben Ozuna had a good game going 1-3 with a BB. He also reached on an error, stole 2nd, stole 3rd, and then took home on the overthrow into LF. The rare no hit, no walk inning that leads to a run. Adam Giacalone stays red-hot with 2 BB on a 1-2 night. 9-hitter Andres Martinez went 2-4 with a SB. Game Log Great start. Brevard County 5 Jupiter (Marlins) 4 F/11 Box Score The Manatees kicked off a very solid early evening for my teams after a short delay. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Reggie Keen (3-6 SB (37) CS (18)) induced a throwing error on his infield GB allowing Parker Berberet (1-4 BB) to come around and score the winning run. Drew Gagnon (22) started and he was very good. His line; 7 IP 6 H 3 R 2 ER 1 BB 4 K 7:6 GO:FO. The BB's and BAA have both gone up since the promotion, but the age appropriate Gagnon continues to find success in general. Eric Arnett gave up a run in 1 IP then Casey Medlen and Greg Holle divvied up the final 3 innings holding Jupiter scoreless in the process. 2010 32nd round pick Jason Rogers was unstoppable with 3 H, including a HR, and a BB. The slugging is down in A+, but Rogers continues to post ~.400 OBP and a ~.300 AVG. 2010 42nd round pick John Dishon finished 1-3 with a BB and his 11th steal at BC and 22nd on the year. The two best prospects in the Marlins lineup, Marcell Ozuna and Christina Yelich, finished 1-9 with a BB on the night. Game Log 3 perfect innings for Gagnon including his final 2. A 2-out bottom of the 11th walk-off error by the SS. Brevard County Bottom of the 11th Cody Hawn flies out to left fielder Dallas Poulk. Parker Berberet singles on a line drive to left fielder Dallas Poulk. Brent Dean pops out to second baseman Blake Barber. John Dishon walks. Parker Berberet to 2nd. Reggie Keen singles on a ground ball to shortstop Terrence Dayleg. Parker Berberet scores. John Dishon to 2nd. Throwing error by shortstop Terrence Dayleg.

A box score cannot begin to describe the nonsense that occurred in the Missoula bottom of the 8th.

I really like Kranitz's demeanor on mound visits and think he provides thoughtful quotes. Besides that, I really do not understand how anyone can pretend to evaluate his contributions.

Yeah, and a YouTube Clip! OOOhhhh-Wwwow! ************** On a serious note, I have to get married tomorrow evening. So, just reminding any relevant folks that I hope to have the next 2 nights off from Link Reporting. One night for fun and one night for putting my life back together after putting on a party for 175. My house is a monstrous pile of garbage and in-the-box home appliances and that needs to be remedied.

AZL Indians 5 AZL Brewers 1 Box Score If Orlando Arcia had trumpets blaring in 2011, Eduardo Reyes certainly hears...antelope shofar... in 2012. Feast of Trumpets Check out this line for his stateside debut: 6.1 IP 0 H 0 R 2 BB 9 K. That instantly becomes the best game pitched by either Brewers rookie ball team. Austin Hall got the start and was obliterated, so I don't know who looked worse; Hall or the Indians hitters against Reyes. Ryan Fasano pitched the final frame and left intact and with a K. Jose Sermo (2-3 BB) and Angel Ortega (2-4 2B) had good nights. No one else did but Clint Coulter (1-4) did finish the night with a clean sheet on D. Even more impressive was that he did not DH (I checked). That's right, no passed balls or errors. Holy crap, he even threw a guy out trying to steal! Game Log

Billings 7 (Reds) Helena 0 Box Score http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e127/mcollinknight/Jon%20and%20Stephen%20get%20their%20own%20album/jon_is_disappointed.gif Michael Reed (2-4 SB) and Adam Giacalone (2-3 BB) are on fire. Everyone else was pretty much a detriment tonight. The rare Brewers lefty starter (3 in all of the minor league system) Will West had an unmentionable line, but the next two guys were impressive. Michael White struck out the only guy he faced and Preston Gainey went 3 IP giving up only a solo homer while striking out 3. Game Log I mean, if you crave punishment, read on.

Manatees doubled up by Miracle, 6-3 07/27/2012 10:32 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees FORT MYERS, Fla. - 2011 first round pick Taylor Jungmann had the second shortest start of his career as the Brevard County Manatees were defeated by the Fort Myers Miracle, 6-3 at Hammond Stadium on Friday night. Jungmann (8-6, 4.02) went just 3.2 innings as he allowed six earned runs on ten hits. He walked two and struck out one as he failed to get past the fifth inning for the third time this season out of 20 starts. The Miracle jumped on Jungmann and the 'Tees (19-16 second half, 48-55 overall) in the first inning as Daniel Santana led off the inning with a single and two batters later, Steven Liddle singled to put runners on the corners with one out. Then with Josmil Pinto at the plate, Jungmann threw two wild pitches, the first of which allowed Santana to score. After walking Pinto, Lance Ray singled to left to bring home Liddle and make it a 2-0 game in favor of the Miracle (18-18, 46-57). A third wild pitch in the inning by Jungmann allowed runners to move to second and third, but he was able to induce two consecutive ground outs to end the inning and prevent any further damage. The Manatees would those runs back right away as Mike Walker led off the second with a solo homer. Brock Kjeldgaard then singled and would score three batters later on a two-out double by Parker Berberet as the Manatees tied the game. A two-out RBI single by Anderson Hidalgo in the third would give the lead back to Fort Myers and then the Miracle touched up Jungmann for three runs in the fourth. A RBI double from Steven Liddle gave Fort Myers a 4-2 lead and then two batters later Lance Ray hit a two-run homer to right to make it a 6-2 game. The duo of Tommy Toledo and Eric Arnett out of the bullpen kept the Manatees in the game the rest of the way as Toledo threw 2.1 shutout innings and Arnett threw two of his own with three strikeouts. Brevard however would only be able to get one run the rest of the way as Walker hit his second solo shot of the game with one out in the sixth. For Walker, it was his first career multi-homer game as he continues to have a stellar July. He is hitting .313 with a .429 on-base percentage and .484 slugging percentage in 20 games this month. The Manatees will try and get their first win of the series against the Miracle as the two teams square off again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Andy Moye (4-2, 5.36) will toe the rubber for Brevard as he will be making his first appearance since July 15. Moye is looking for his first win since June 29 and has struggled in July with a 0-2 record and a 7.63 ERA in three starts. Fort Myers will counter with southpaw Pat Dean (6-6, 3.89). The 2012 Florida State League All-Star is looking for his first win since June 27 and his only other start against the 'Tees back on May 18, he allowed just one run and struck out eight in eight innings of work. Box Score So, pretty sure I was just touting Mike Walker (2-4 2 HR) as a prime candidate for a power surge. He hit 8 and 9 tonight and even just a mini-surge (4-5 over the next 2 weeks) could leave him in the 15-18 range by the end of the year. Walker kills RHP (.322 AVG) but his LHP splits are atrocious and his D is currently suspect. With Jason Rogers (0-4) getting pitched around and now falling cold and T.J. Mittelstaedt getting promoted, it was imperative for some other hitter to step up. The hitter has been Walker. On the mound, Taylor Jungmann got destroyed. Taylor was way off kilter. He had 3 WP in 1 inning and gave up a [sarcasm]disturbingly high 5 FO's[/sarcasm]. On the bright side, Eric Arnett and Tommy Toledo continue their fine seasons. There were whispers (bottom of page) that Arnett was primed for a big breakout within the Brewers organization. My bet is that if it does happen, it will be next season in Huntsville's rotation. Arnett has now gone 2+ innings in 8 of his past 10 appearances. Could they be gearing him up? Game Log Comes in 3's? Fort Myers Bottom of the 1st Daniel Santana singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Levi Michael flies out to center fielder Reggie Keen. Steven Liddle singles on a line drive to center fielder Reggie Keen. Daniel Santana to 3rd. With Josmil Pinto batting, wild pitch by Taylor Jungmann, Daniel Santana scores. Steven Liddle to 2nd. With Josmil Pinto batting, wild pitch by Taylor Jungmann, Steven Liddle to 3rd. Josmil Pinto walks. Lance Ray singles on a line drive to right fielder John Dishon. Steven Liddle scores. Josmil Pinto to 2nd. With Angel Morales batting, wild pitch by Taylor Jungmann, Josmil Pinto to 3rd. Lance Ray to 2nd. Angel Morales grounds out to first baseman Jason Rogers. Michael Gonzales grounds out, shortstop Hector Gomez to first baseman Jason Rogers.

Fort Myers' big inning dooms 'Tees 07/26/2012 10:04 PM ET By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Brevard County Manatees allowed four runs in the second inning and were unable to complete a comeback as they were edged 4-3 by the Fort Myers Miracle at Hammond Stadium on Thursday night. Brandon Williamson (2-8, 6.64) got the start for the 'Tees (19-15 second half, 48-54 second half) and yielded five hits in six innings of work, while walking three and striking out four. The trouble for Williamson and Brevard started with one out in the second as Josmil Pinto hit a solo homer to left to put Fort Myers (17-18, 45-57) on the board. After Steven Liddle walked, he preceded to steal second and then advance to third on a throwing error by catcher Brent Dean. Daniel Rams then drew a walk and Liddle would be brought home one batter later on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Anderson Hidalgo. Jonathan Gonclaves kept the inning going with a base hit to left that put runners on first and second with two outs. The big blow then came off the bat of Daniel Santana as he tripled to center to clear the bases and give the Miracle a 4-0 lead. Williamson's biggest troubles have come in the second inning of games with the Manatees. In the second inning this season, he has a 13.14 ERA as he's allowed 18 earned runs in 12.1 innings. Seth Harvey would relieve Williamson and throw two scoreless frames with two strikeouts to keep Brevard in the game. Fort Myers starter Tom Stuifbergen held the 'Tees scoreless through seven innings, while striking out seven. The Manatees though would get to Stuifbergen in the eighth. Cody Hawn and Hector Gomez led off the inning with back-to-back doubles as Gomez's double plated Hawn. Two batters later, John Dishon would bring home Gomez as he singled to center to make it a 4-2 game. Stuifbergen was then lifted for Miguel Munoz and Munoz was able to prevent any other damage as he retired the last two hitters to end the inning. With their last chance in the ninth, the 'Tees didn't go down without a fight as Jason Rogers led off the frame with a double to left. Rogers moved to third on a ground out by Mike Walker and would then score on a ground out by Brock Kjeldgaard to make it a 4-3 game. Hawn then stepped in with two outs, representing the tying run but he was unable to extend the rally as he grounded out to first to end the game. Brevard County and Fort Myers will continue their four-game set on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Taylor Jungmann (8-5, 3.67) will get the ball for the Manatees, in search of his ninth win of the season and fourth in his last five starts. The 2011 first round pick has been solid so far in the second half of the season as he is 3-1 with a 3.21 ERA in his last five starts. The Miracle will send Madison Boer (4-9, 6.99) to the hill. Boer is winless in his last four starts and in his only other start against the 'Tees this season, he allowed seven runs in 4.1 innings of work. Box Score Almost made it back but not quite. John Dishon was the only guy with 2 hits. Jason Rogers, Cody Hawn and Hector Gomez all hit a 2B. On the mound, Brandon Williamson was again done in by a horrible 2nd inning. Baseball can produce the strangest coincidences. Seth Harvey was very strong over the final 2 innings with 2 K and no runs allowed. BC is now 2 games back of the balanced Yankees and 1.5 behind the pitching-rich Phillies. Game Log 1/2 the hits. Brevard County Top of the 8th Cody Hawn doubles (24) on a fly ball to right fielder Daniel Ortiz. Hector Gomez doubles (3) on a line drive to left fielder Daniel Rams. Cody Hawn scores. Brent Dean lines out to shortstop Daniel Santana. John Dishon singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jonathan Goncalves. Hector Gomez scores. Pitching Change: Miguel Munoz replaces Tom Stuifbergen. Nick Shaw grounds into a force out, third baseman Anderson Hidalgo to second baseman Levi Michael. John Dishon out at 2nd. Nick Shaw to 1st. Reggie Keen grounds out, third baseman Anderson Hidalgo to first baseman Steven Liddle. Late....um...rally? Brevard County Top of the 9th Defensive switch from right field to left field for Daniel Ortiz. Defensive Substitution: Angel Morales replaces left fielder Daniel Rams, batting 7th, playing center field. Defensive switch from center field to right field for Jonathan Goncalves. Jason Rogers doubles (7) on a line drive to left fielder Daniel Ortiz. Mike Walker grounds out, shortstop Daniel Santana to first baseman Steven Liddle. Jason Rogers to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard grounds out, third baseman Anderson Hidalgo to first baseman Steven Liddle. Jason Rogers scores. Cody Hawn grounds out to first baseman Steven Liddle.

Helena 9 Odgen (Dodgers) 6 Box Score A win tonight for Helena thanks in most part to 7 unearned runs. Ruben Ozuna (3-4 3B 2 SB) and Adam Giacalone (2-4 HR) were the big stars on the evening. Michael Turay also went 2-4 and is up to .313 on the year to go with some power. On the mound, former college closer Tyler Wagner started and he struggled a bit. The 7:2 GO:FO and 4:1 K:BB in 4 innings give me great hope for this mid-90's fireballer. I have high hopes for his transition to the rotation in pro ball. Brent Suter finished the game with 5 spectacular innings. 5 IP 1 H 1 R 0 ER 2 BB 3 K 1 WP 9:1 GO:FO for the former Harvard star. Game Log

In G1, Joey Paciorek started at C and went 1-3 with a 2B. In G2, Brent Dean started at C and went 1-3. They combined for 5 RBI on the day. Brooks Hall started G1 on the hill and got knocked around a little bit. Thomas Keeling threw 3 relief innings and held them scoreless despite 3 BB and 0 K. With the Butcher Brothers behind the dish in Maryvale, I have decided that I will basically ignore pitcher stats at that level. Get K's and GB's and I will be thrilled but runs and walks will all be skewed because of the shoddy receiving from Coulter and Houle. Nic Bucci is tonight's early victim. We are talking about two 18 year olds, so obviously they can and will improve as they move up.

Hunter Morris kills RHP (.953 OPS) but he has been decent against LHP as well (.803 OPS). He has more homers after the All-Star break then he did before in half the number of games. Chad Stang is a young 23 in ball player terms as he has about 800 pro AB's with almost half coming this season. He is also having a very nice season in WI with a large pile of XBH and steals (48). Max Walla is struggling against LHP (.466 OPS, 9 hits all year). This is his next major hurdle in his progression. He has really improved his eye, even against LHP, while also cutting down on his K's. If he is able to hold is own against southpaws, he can start working on driving the ball with his tremendous natural power. I personally have seen him hit two impressive home runs at Miller Park against live pitching. The thing I remember most from that home run earlier this season was how strong Walla's legs look. He has a lower half chiseled out of granite. Walla (21) is looking at being in AA for 2014, making it his age 23 season. Hunter Morris is 23 in AA this year. I am heavily in favor of Yaddy Rivera repeating at WI next season. Now 20, he is basically having an identical season statistically as he did last year at Helena and WI. I love Yaddy's attitude and the power is enticing but he now has 1000 AB's of poor hitting under his belt. Still no Tyrone Taylor.

AZL Brewers 13 AZL Mariners 7 Box Score Anthony Banda started and he pitched well. 4 IP 4 H 1 R 1 ER 3 BB 2 K 2 WP 5:3 GO:FO. Joel Dicent followed and walked 4 in 2 IP while surrendering only 1 run. Dicent was nasty in the DSL last summer, but so far that has not translated. Joel will turn 21 in about a week. Austin Blaski threw 2 good innings allowing an unearned run with 2 K. Alejandro Lavandero started the 9th and struggled a bit. 5 BB and 2 H while only recording 2 outs for Lavandero. Carlos Sosa came in a quickly ended the madness. I am really liking what I am seeing (in box scores and scouting reports) from Edgardo Rivera (0-2 4 BB) thus far. He seems to have some sort of idea at the plate, and although he does not profile for future power, he does profile as a plus defender and any kind of on-base prowess will be capitalized on with his speed on the basepaths. 6'0" 190 lb 19 year old Renaldo Jenkins (1-3 2 BB SB) has been getting most of the starts at 2B for the AZL Brewers. I had him personally pegged as a sleeper coming into this season and so far, he is about a 3 game hot streak from making me look smart. As is, he is walking a more then 10% of his PA's while striking out at a similar rate. He has a few XBH's and he is capable of swiping some bases as he did have a 3 SB game recently. C Dustin Houle (2-6 2B) had a bases clearing 2B in this one. He is another one of these patient AZL Brewers hitters. 19 year old Jose Pena (1-3 3 BB), who Keith Law recently described as having the "...potential to hit for average and power (in the big leagues)...", had another good game. Alan Sharkey (2-6 2 SB) and Jose Sermo (2-4 BB) also had good games. Sermo was thrown out trying to steal home though. No Clint Coulter tonight. After 5 seperate defensive miscues last night, he probably needed a breather. Game Log 8-run 8th inning feast. AZL Brewers Top of the 8th Pitching Change: Cody Weiss replaces Richard White, batting 7th. Alan Sharkey singles on a fly ball to center fielder Isaiah Yates. With Jose Sermo batting, Alan Sharkey steals (4) 2nd base. Jose Sermo walks. Angel Ortega singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Cody Weiss. Alan Sharkey to 3rd. Jose Sermo to 2nd. Renaldo Jenkins singles on a ground ball to right fielder Rashynol Michel. Alan Sharkey scores. Jose Sermo to 3rd. Angel Ortega to 2nd. Malcolm Dowell strikes out swinging. Edgardo Rivera walks. Jose Sermo scores. Angel Ortega to 3rd. Renaldo Jenkins to 2nd. Pitching Change: Daniel Mata replaces Cody Weiss, batting 7th. Dustin Houle grounds into a force out, shortstop Roberto Velasquez to second baseman Timothy Lopes. Angel Ortega scores. Renaldo Jenkins to 3rd. Edgardo Rivera out at 2nd. Dustin Houle to 1st. Jose Pena walks. Dustin Houle to 2nd. Deivi Mejia singles on a ground ball to left fielder Cory Scammell. Renaldo Jenkins scores. Dustin Houle scores. Jose Pena to 3rd. Ogden (Dodgers) 9 Helena 5 Box Score Leonard Lorenzo saw his ERA creep up over 4.00 with this start. Leonard was picked and prodded throughout his start with earned runs in 4 different innings being charged to him. Mike Francisco relieved Lorenzo, but he could not slow 'em down. Elliot Glynn had the only clean inning. Unfortunately he walked as many as he retired so nothing to great from any of the H-Crew pitchers. At the plate, Helena made some noise late, but it was not nearly enough. Alfredo Rodriguez (2-4 2B 3B BB) continues to rack up XBH's as he now has 6 2B and 1 3B in his last 10 games. It will be very interesting to see how the Brewers handle the SS position at the lower levels next season. Rodriguez will surely be in A or A+ depending on what they do with Yaddy Rivera, right? I could see Rivera repeating WI with Rodriguez heading to Brevard. Michael Reed (2-5), Michael Turay (2-4 2B) and Ruben Ozuna (2-4) also had multi-hit games. Tyrone Taylor is still MIA. Game Log

Cubs jump ahead in Loosen's 9th W 07/24/2012 10:07 PM ET By Tyler Murray Viera, FL - The Daytona Cubs rode another dominant start from RHP Matt Loosen (W, 9-3) to a 4-2 win over the Brevard County Manatees on Tuesday night at Space Coast Stadium, snapping a four-game losing streak and giving Loosen his league-leading ninth win of the season. Loosen allowed two runs on three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over six innings, and ranks third in the Florida State League with a 2.81 ERA. The right-hander got some help from CF Matt Szczur, who made an outstretched diving catch at full sprint at the left-center field warning track to rob 1B Cody Hawn of an RBI double. The Cubs went ahead early, plating two runs against LHP Jed Bradley (L, 5-8) in the first inning on RBI singles from Szczur and RF Rubi Silva. With a 2-0 lead, C Micah Gibbs took advantage of some sloppy pitching in the second inning to extend the advantage. After reaching with a one-out single, Gibbs moved to second on a wild pitch, took third on a groundout by SS Eliot Soto, and scored Daytona's third run on a two-out passed ball by C Joey Paciorek. The Manatees struck back with two runs in the bottom of the second, as 3B Mike Walker drew a walk to lead off the frame. Two batters later, Hawn laced a single to right field, and 2B Shea Vucinich knocked in Walker with a double down the left-field line. Hawn then came home from third on a grounder to short, which bounced off Soto's chest for his first error of the season. Loosen managed to strike out RF Franklin Romero, Jr. and SS Nick Shaw to strand runners on the corners and end the inning with a 3-2 advantage. Silva provided some insurance with an RBI triple in the fifth inning, which turned out to be the deciding run, as RHP A.J. Morris (S, 1) allowed a run in the eighth to make it 4-3. Still, the right-hander was able to close out the ninth inning for his first save of the season. RHP Ryan Searle pitched a perfect seventh, striking out two hitters in the process. Silva reached base three times and finished with two RBIs, while 1B Rebel Ridling wowed the crowd with a towering double off the center field wall. The Cubs and Manatees will play a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, with Game 1 scheduled to start at 5:35 p.m.

Daytona (Cubs) 4 Brevard County 3 Box Score Jed Bradley went 7 innings but the quality was lacking. 7 H 4 R 3 ER 3 BB 0 K 0 HR 2 WP 10:9 GO:FO and 1 Pickoff accompanied Bradley's line. Until Bradley's FB regains a tick or two, I cannot see him having much success. Now, I do not pretend to know what the problem was tonight, but in general, his FB is too slow and straight and his slider is too inconsistent to be used as an out pitch. These were not problems with Bradley's repertoire even just 12 months ago. Prospects can and do regress, let's just hope it's a one step back, two steps forward kinda thing. Greg Holle finished with 2 brilliant innings, including 3 K. Shea Vucinich was 2-4 with a 2B and Mike Walker went 1-2 with 2 BB. Walker put up a mid-.800's OPS in WI last year with 20 2B and 15 homers. He is sitting mid-.700's at BC with 16 2B and 7 homers. Do not be surprised if some of these 2B turn into homers over the 2nd half and then certainly next year in the Southern League. Reggie Keen stole his 33rd base. Game Log
