  1. People, what Meche did was nice and all, but Soup shouldn't feel bad about accepting money that was contracted to him. It just comes off extremely judgmental.
  2. I plan on being at this game taking diligent notes. Hopefully, the boys take it serious and show us their best stuff. I spose BP might be the most important thing to watch, eh?
  3. This thread, in my humble opinion, is the best one on the entire site. I only took one college stats class, so much of this is wayyy over my head, but, the simplicity in how rluzinski describes his points make this a must read. I work in the agricultural odor mitigation field, and often times, we encounter complex systems with many, many variables. One example I am currently working on involves swine finishing barns in my area. Some of this units are experiencing really bad 'foaming' in their manure pits. So bad, that the foam is rising through the slats in the barn floor even. This foam is almost 80% methane, so their is a huge explosion hazard, along with the gas being poisonous to the animals and people that work there. Mass animal kills, human casualties and explosions have happened recently, seemingly with more frequency. Now here comes the crazy part. We have been on swine finishing sites that have multiple buildings housing animals. The buildings were built at the same time, are the same size, and are built with the same materials. Maintenance of each building is the same. There are the same amount of pigs in each building. The pigs eat the same diet, and drink the same water. The pigs in each building are on roughly the same grow schedule. For space reasons, manure had even been transferred between the two pits, so there has been ample mixing of microorganisms, nutrients, etc. That shouldn't even matter though, because the two pits/diff. kind of manures should be the same (and they do test that way in the lab). Despite all that, one building will have severe pit foam, and the other will have no pit foam problems to speak of. I just thought that story was interesting because of the discussion here in this thread. Everything is the same, yet we encounter different results. The beauty of statistical luck. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. I would be a world champion milk chugger. Seriously, my body has been trained to consume obscene amounts of milk.
  5. Paul, that is pretty much exactly what Schafer projects as, at least to those that believe in him.
  6. Hecky seems a little low, but I love the Jimmy Nelson placement. They mention that we are ranked last in all of baseball because we have no impact talent in the upper minors besides Mark Rogers. I tend to agree, but zero impact talent seems a bit much. I think Wily Peralta (who is pretty dang young for AA) has impact stuff that could lead to some very nice seasons in the bigs. I think Kintzler has impact talent out of the pen. I also think Eric Farris has enough upside, that if he reaches it, he could be a 3-4 WAR type. That is obviously a pretty rosy outlook for him though. Yadiel Rivera seems to be on BA's radar as well. I hope he meets the expectations. No Tyler Roberts though, which is strange because he was rated pretty high in the league rankings by BA.
  7. I thought Sickels was pretty fair. Rogers is a solid B/B+ for me, but I can see why he has him as a B-.
  8. Besides Hellickson, Moore, and Jennings, the TB system looks a lot like ours currently does. And two out of those three have some serious question marks. Lucky for them, they have 11 of the first 60 picks (or something) in this next draft.
  9. Callis, and all of BA, are falling off a cliff. I pretty much agree with Callis here, though. We are a bottom 5 system right now. That said, I think there are guys in our system who deserve much more respect/hype. Rogers for one. The AA pitchers (Scarpetta, Heckathorne, Peralta) too. Now, just for fun, go look what Kentrail Davis did in Low-A. Now, go look what Mike Trout did in Low-A. Obviously age is a hugehugehuge factor, but it was Kentrail's first taste of pro pitching (Trout got 207 PA's in 2009), and he ain't exactly old. Davis did what he did with 2 bad hammies and about 12 knots in his back and arms from all the HBP's. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif People are gonna kill me for that comparison, and it is probably deserved (age, Trout's stats were just better all around), but Kentrail can at least be a poor man's Mike Trout, right? It isn't all that surprising that our hitters don't get more hype. All the top guys are smallish. Kentrail Davis, Caleb Gindl, Erik Komatsu, Scooter Gennett. Add an inch or two, and suddenly you are legit...We must have the biggest pitchers and the smallest hitters in all of the minors.
  10. I really like the list in general, but I think that D'Vontrey Richardson needs to rise based off of his potential alone. People want a guy that has superstar ceiling? D'Vo is probably the Brewer with the highest ceiling. On top of that, D'Vo has already had much more success then other raw prospects, like Brent Brewer and Max Walla. 2011 will be important for Richardson.
  11. Loving Schafer in AAA. I could see Haydl and Schafer switching spots, but I like it the way it is. Khris Davis in CF? That could get ugly, http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.
  12. I would like to see Schafer (CF) and Gindl (RF) in AAA, and Komatsu starting in CF for AA.
  13. For me, I remember Komatsu saying that this season he sacrificed power for contact/getting on base. Now, he was very successful, but his true ceiling is dependent on him working that power back into his arsenal (he mashed in Helana in 2008). If he can keep that .440+ SLG% in AA, I think people will start moving him up some lists. Schafer is more of a contact guy. For me, he doesn't project to hit for much power at all. Both guys can run a little and both are sweet swinging lefties. Scouts have rated bat speed for both as average or a tick above, so they should have success as they move up the MiLB ladder. I also think both guys have 4th OF floors. As for defense, both should stick in center. Very comparable guys for sure. Gindl too. I would rank the ceilings of the 3 guys like this: Gindl, Komatsu, Schafer with the first two being very, very close. Still, I put the over/under on all star appearances between the three at 0.5.
  14. Lucroy's job on D just got a lot easier with the new pitching staff.
  15. I feel that even with the recent trades, our system is still in better shape then it was 2-3 years ago. Especially the pitching. I am counting on some surprise seasons from the hitters, but the pitching still has high end upside and pretty nice depth.
  16. This is basically a Teixera trade except we got an ACE, not an All-Star first baseman. Here is the PitchFx page for Greinke. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfx.aspx?playerid=1943&position=P
  17. His agent (agent39) flat said Jeffress was NOT in the deal.
  18. Jefress' agent says he is NOT in the deal.
  19. I wouldn't be surprised if the moves the Phillies made sent a strong message to Melvin that he cannot just sit back. Hopefully, these moves really energize Prince, Ryan, and Corey. I'd project us for 88-90 wins as is, but I think there will be a few minor moves that could bump us to the 90+ range. Roenicke sounds the perfect guy to work with Greinke as well.
  20. Even in his 'horrible' 2005 season, Greinke was worth 2.6 wins. Here is to good health for all parties.
  21. Josh says no Jeffress. http://twitter.com//39ontheline
  22. Other prospects with some medical history: Amaury Rivas Erik Komatsu Logan Schafer
  23. I really hope Rogers isn't the PTBNL...
  24. We also acquired the least valuable player in baseball over the last 2 seasons...that is weird, haha.
  25. Maybe the Milwaukee's offense will help him forget that brutal KC attack that he went to battle with. We can't fully gauge this trade until DM is done making moves this offseason. I expect a few pieces to be added yet.
