  1. MLB updated their rankings and has Gabriel Hughes at #26. I'm getting some Corbin Burnes/Brandon Woodruff vibes from their scouting report, certainly a similar size/build. I don't think he'll still be there at #27, but if he is, I would be elated with him as the pick. One other thing about Hjerpe is that he only gave up 3 HRs on the year on over 400 batters faced. Last year he only gave up 6 HRs against 325 batters faced.
  2. The downside of that is how does the next Jerry Rice/Walter Payton/Donald Driver/Aaron Jones/T.J. Lang/Quinn Meinerz/etc. get a shot at the NFL? What about the guys who develop later? Do bigger schools get more schollies and go back to JV teams?
  3. La Stella had an OPS >.800 in three of the prior four years before he signed that contract (2017, 2019, 2020). That's why he got 3/$18M. Peterson does not have that on his resume. I don't see anyone giving Peterson more than 2/$8M if that.
  4. Catching up on the game, saw Houser shake his arm off at least twice before the walk to Vogelbach when he was taken out. Something had been bothering him for a while.
  5. Could be why he's been struggling lately. Could have been trying to pitch through an injury.
  6. In the last month, natural gas is down over 20%. Copper is down over 12% in the last month, down 30% from March highs. Wheat is down 15% in the last month, over 30% from May highs. Corn is down almost 15% in the last month. Lumber is almost 1/3rd of what it was early March.
  7. Is it me or is the Rivers Casino ad excessively LOUD?
  8. His stat line on the season is making Lo Cain proud.
  9. 1 J. Wiemer 2 E. Small 3 S. Frelick 4 J. Chourio 5 A. Kelly 6 T. Black 7 B. Turang 8 G. Mitchell 9 F. Valerio 10 J. Quero 11 V. Castaneda 12 J. Reetz 13 J. Jarvis 14 R. Smith 15 H. Perez 16 C. Campbell
  10. Erceg seems to be settling in on the mound. He's only given up one earned run since the middle of May.
  11. The Cardinals won that battle but in the process may have lost the war because they sent out Flaherty who clearly wasn't 100% and now he left the game today after 2IP with shoulder issues.
  12. Chi Chi Gonzalez has started two games for the Brewers, with Jack Flaherty and Jose Berrios the opposing pitchers. He has lasted longer than each of them did in the game.
  13. So ends the Larry Ernesto experiment. $1.7M and never got above rookie ball. I hope he invested the money wisely.
  14. I have a feeling that the Brewers don't think much of Noah Campbell's infield defense, at least at 3B. The fact that Yeison Coca is starting over him at 3B while Campbell is pushing a .900 OPS is not a good sign.
  15. You mentioned Jordan Beck earlier as a guy who probably won't make it to MIL at #27. Jordan Beck's BB & K rates in 2022: 12.5%, 21% Ivan Melendez's BB & K rates in 2022: 16.5%, 16% Yes, Beck has more defensive value, but If Melendez will strikeout 150 times in a season, Beck will strikeout 180.
  16. Cardinals luck out and split the series. They sent their four best starting pitchers at the Brewers while the Brewers sent only one of their four best plus two scrap heap guys and all the Cardinals could get was two games.
  17. Should've used Kelley as an opener to get through Arenado. Lauer isn't going to go 8IP against the Cardinals, and the HR in the first hurt them just as much as the HR in the 6th.
  18. Who would have thought that Chi Chi wouldn't look like the worse starting pitcher tonight?
  19. He wasn't getting the low strikes called so he was trying to throw them higher. That's what happens when low strikes don't get called.
  20. If Chi Chi isn't getting those called for strikes it is going to be a short night for him. And a long night for us.
  21. Keep in mind that when prices started rising a year ago the unemployment rate was still 6%. The unemployment rate actually rose slightly from April to May of last year and was mostly stagnant from March-June, so there was concern that raising rates would cause an increase in unemployment. The government needed to get people back to work so that they didn't have to have another stimulus. In 1994 it was an easier call because the unemployment rate had been steadily declining and the peak unemployment rate after the 1991-1992 recession was half of the peak unemployment rate in 2020. Oil prices also started falling in October of last year, so there was reason to believe that inflation would subside. Then Russia.
  22. How is Chris Carpenter going to explain that to his son?
