  1. El Paso using freezer trucks as makeshift morgues. The CEO of the University of Iowa hospital and clinics telling people to "have a backup plan" in case you can't get into your local hospital. Utah under state of emergency, has banned all indoor and in-home gatherings for two weeks.
  2. I want to know how many people will forget this and not come back for their second dose. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-vaccines-distribut/why-pfizers-ultra-cold-covid-19-vaccine-will-not-be-at-the-local-pharmacy-any-time-soon-idUSKBN27P2VI The Mayo Clinic doesn't even have cold storage capabilities that low, but at those temperatures (-70 F) the vaccine will last for six months. It can last for five days at normal refrigeration temperature (~40 degrees F). Article doesn't say what the shelf life is at regular freezer temperatures (0 degrees F). However, other vaccines don't need such low temperatures. The ones from J&J and Novavax can be stored at normal refrigeration temperatures. Moderna's vaccine is similar, but doesn't need to be stored at such low temperatures.
  3. Badgers not the only ones cancelling games because of COVID-19. North Texas/LA Tech, NavyTulsa, Army/Air Force, and Washington/Cal all getting cancelled this weekend.
  4. This past weekend, Jon Lester, in appreciation of Cubs fans, bought over $30K in Miller Lites at four Wrigley neighborhood bars (and added a 34% tip for a total tab of $47K). With bars and restaurants in Chicago closing for indoor service as of 6am Friday morning, I want to know how that many beers were served in limited outdoor dining space.
  5. ?? Nine people there currently, and they've had patients there since early this past week, I believe: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/alternate-care-facility.htm 9. Exactly. Statewide crisis it is not. People have been refusing to go there because there aren't a lot of medical personnel there or because it's a long way from where they live.
  6. In this order: Feliciano File Bettinger Francis Those are the only locks I think. If there's more room, it's these guys: Sanchez Henry Brown (they could have picked him last year but didn't; I think they roll the dice again) Barker (I agree he should be higher, but he hasn't struck a lot of guys out and the Brewers like pitchers who strike a lot of guys out; plus, why was he passed over for Bickford?) Hummel
  7. The windy conditions didn't give them the opportunity to take advantage of Minnesota's depleted secondary. Outside of the run defense, the biggest problems were the play calls and holding penalties on their first two possessions of the 2nd half. On 1st and 2nd down in those two possessions they ran 4 times and passed 9 times. Some of that was out of necessity due to the back to back holding calls on their 2nd drive, but on the first drive after the long pass to Tonyan they passed on first and 2nd down instead of running to get a few yards and a shorter 3rd down. The back to back holding calls then put them in a huge hole.
  8. Correlation does not imply causation, but looking at the WI cases by age group it's pretty hard to argue that going back to school isn't the cause of the spike in cases, especially those in the 18-24 age group. For the rest, if it wasn't going back to school, it was Labor Day weekend parties and socialization. https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/covid-19/cases.htm
  9. In Illinois, 50% of confirmed cases are in those under the age of 40. But only 2% of deaths are in those under the age of 40. If you expand to the age of 50, 65% of cases are in those under 50 and 5% of deaths are in those under 50. 10% of confirmed cases are in those 70+. But 70% of deaths are by those over the age of 70. The young people are the ones spreading it, and those over 70 need to stay at home and not interact with those under 50. https://www.dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid19-statistics
  10. UW now up to 22 positive cases per Alvarez. 12 players, 10 staff. And now some positive tests on Illinois.
  11. Not even the butter Come on, man, if they're not in the fries...

    Pizza

Out in the middle of nowhere between Fond du Lac and Oshkosh is a farm that started taking their dairy and beef products and making frozen pizzas, and they are fantastic. https://www.pocopizza.com/ Some of them have some crazy ingredient combinations; I'm eagerly looking forward to having one of their horseradish beef pizzas. Right now they are showing a summer sausage and cheese curd pizza, a brat and curd pizza, cherry pulled pork, bacon mac and cheese, dutch apple pie, breakfast pizza... they have different varieties each week. Available for "barnyard pickup" - you order on-line by 6pm Thursday evening and then pickup at the big shed out back on Saturday between 11am - 4pm. Comes complete with barnyard smell while waiting in line. They have lots of other stuff - ice cream, veggies, baked goods, beef sticks. If you are anywhere near that area, or will be driving through mid-day on a Saturday, I highly recommend placing an order.
  13. There is no vitamin D in a hamburger, fried perch, or french fries and a cup of cheddar cheese (132g) has 4% of the USRDA of Vitamin D. Hey, there's probably SOME in the tartar. Nope

  15. Even been in those states during the summer? Too hot to be outside. A good friend of mine lives in Austin, TX. During August this year they had something like 25 days where the high temperature was over 100 degrees.
  16. I've been souring on watching the news, but I am starting to enjoy The News with Shepard Smith on CNBC at 6pm. Actually informative, not sensational, real news, and a little humor mixed in.
  17. Also a good point. I agree that those that are getting it seem to have one of two things in common- either bar or 'large family gathering'. Or both. My parents live on the east side of Lake Winnebago (in Pipe, to be specific), and I visited them a couple of weekends ago when it was really warm so we could be outside. When I left, the parking lot of Jim and Linda's supper club was packed with people walking towards it in nicer outfits with half of men wearing ties, very few of them masks.
  18. Alvarez said it was orange/red, not red/red. Article o 247sports website. Also CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd's tweet said that as well.
  19. It's a combination of team positivity rate and community positivity rate. They weren't forced to; Alvarez and Blank chose to in order to get their arms around it and contain it. The lackadaisical effort to take this seriously by a significant portion of the Wisconsin general public might be the underlying reason this happened. Hard to expect the team to stay clean when the state is ground zero.
  20. https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/troll-farms-macedonia-philippines-pushed-coronavirus-disinformation-facebook-n1218376 https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/28/us/politics/russia-disinformation-coronavirus.html https://apnews.com/article/ap-top-news-health-moscow-ap-fact-check-elections-3acb089e6a333e051dbc4a465cb68ee1 ? Right, they were banned, as I said. Notice how my original comment was in past-tense, not present-tense: I wonder how much misinformation people like that have gotten from Russian/Chinese/Iranian/North Korean hackers via social media and other means, taking advantage of confirmation bias to affect mindset and behavior. The farms have been banned, but the misinformation lingers.

  22. They have said that nobody tested positive prior to the game on Friday. Could have acquired it celebrating on Friday night after the game or on Saturday, or it could be a false positive.
  23. 6)Other than Scott's monster day punting the football What research have the networks done that shows that fans are not interested in seeing punting stats during a game? Because I can't remember seeing any punter stats in years, and I would really like to.
  24. I'd be willing to bet a large sum that while they don't "allow" that sort of thing that it's still getting posted. Regardless, there are plenty of domestic sources spreading misleading info anyway. Yes, yes there are. https://time.com/5897887/swing-states-2020-election/
  25. Apparently UW has had many false positives this year, so we can only hope that at least one of Mertz or Wolf (preferably the former) is also one of those.
