  1. Maybe. We don't know what would have happened if everything wasn't shut down. The fact that some of the early deaths were in Fond du Lac and that there was an early case in Bayfield suggests that it was out there. It hit NYC, Seattle, Chicago, and San Francisco first because that is where the most traffic to/from China is and it spread because of population density, but it was in some rural areas. I've always been a fan of giving people choices. I've gone back and forth on whether it would have been a good or bad idea to have said, "you either have to wear a mask or you have to sign something that if you contract COVID you waive your right to get treatment". Give a choice, but let there be consequences for that choice. Don't know how they would have enforced that at hospitals, but it might have made people think twice. In marketing it is called a nudge - create hassles and consequences for not doing what you should do. What should have happened is that the state health department should have been doing random checks on business and fining them/pulling their license for not abiding by capacity limits and staff not wearing masks. That worked really well in Chicago, as several restaurants/bars lost their license or got big fines. Businesses got in line real quick.
  2. Donate blood. The Red Cross and Vitalant do free COVID antibody tests on your blood.
  3. Through four games the Packers are 12th in the league in yards/game allowed, 18th in passing yards allowed, 9th in rushing yards allowed, and 18th in points/game allowed. For reference, the difference between the Packers being 18th in points/game allowed and 8th in points/game allowed is a field goal per game (3 ppg). Also for reference, the Packers lead the league in points per game scored. If they averaged a field goal less per game, they would be 2nd in the league in scoring. If they averaged a touchdown per game less in scoring, they would be tied for third in the league in scoring. The hurry-up offense is tough to stop.
  4. Narvaez has at least two options and does not have five years of service time, so send him to AAA and go with Pina and Nottingham. Pina has another year of control and is one of the better catchers in the league. Problem solved.
  5. Last summer that was pretty much every weekend night in my not-so-sleepy town of 3,000,000. Between the young millennials singing and playing music on their back balcony in the alley (sometimes until 5am) and the others in the community setting of fireworks/M-80's all night long, I had to invest in silicone earplugs. Well worth the $6 investment to have around just in case.
  6. That's exactly who I was thinking of. Let's be real, they're not going to have a lot of money to spend so I think that is the one place they might dip in FA. I'd like to start the season with Urias in AAA, but that would mean signing a backup SS and there isn't much for FA SS. I'd also like to start the season with Gyorko at 2B and Hiura in AAA to get his stroke back. C: Pina, Nottingham 1B: Braun (if he comes back at a total of $10M or less) or Vogelbach 2B: Gyorko SS: Arcia (Fangraphs had him as +0.7 WAR, and he had the 2nd lowest K rate on the team) 3B: Lamb LF: Yelich CF: Cain RF: Garcia Bench: Urias/FA, Gamel, Peterson, Vogelbach/Taylor AAA: Hiura, Narvaez, possibly Urias
  7. Three weeks, which I believe is why they put ESB on IR - because he would only miss two games. I want to know what punter they have on speed dial in case Scott can't go on Monday.
  8. Once a Brewer, always a Brewer.
  9. The key word there is "situational". While bunting in general is not a good idea and I agree that bunting runners over from first to second isn't a good idea, there certainly are situations where getting one run wins the game or at least makes a big difference. The new rules for extra innings, for starters. If the away team fails to score and you start a runner at 2nd with nobody out, all you need is one run to win. Nothing wrong with bunting that runner over to 3rd. Same if you have a stud closer and it's tied in the bottom of the 8th/top of the 9th and you get a runner on 2nd with nobody out, get that one run and put it in the hands of your closer. Or even if you are up by one, give your closer a little breathing room with a second run so he can attack hitters and not be afraid of giving up a solo home run. Yeah, most of the time bunting isn't a good strategy, but there are a few situations where it's not a bad strategy at all.
  10. Wild pitch, passed ball, balk, error, catcher's interference...
  11. Welp, it's been fun. A bad day of baseball still beats the hell out of no baseball. Good hearing from you Geno, don't be a stranger. Until next year, when hope springs attorney.
  12. Aaaand now the hitters are going to try to do too much to get back in it. Have to keep your plate discipline.
  13. We've had rluzinski and splitterpfj posts this week. The old crew coming out of the woodwork.
  14. Is anyone else hearing a weird noise in the broadcast background, kind of like some electrical interference? Noticed it yesterday during the Padres game too. When I hit mute it goes away. Kind of sounds like a faint alarm.
  15. Dude... I'm assuming that is referring to the cumulative effect of missing a lot more games, perhaps the rest of the season, whereas Adams will certainly be back after the bye.
  16. Just like last night, the Padres and Cardinals are going to go on forever and now I don't know which channel and scheduled programs I'll need to record. Got screwed by that last night.
