  1. Based on the Penn State/Indiana game today, Clifford sure doesn't look better than Coan.
  2. And one for the thumb. Have a day, Graham Mertz.
  3. He was slightly better than Clifford last year, and neither Clifford nor Morgan had Jonathan Taylor in the backfield taking away passing attempts. I'd still argue that if you put Coan in Minnesota's offense he'd outplay Morgan - just re-watch the Minnesota game last year and Coan outplayed Morgan by a mile. It wasn't even close. Give Coan two NFL WRs and no Jonathan Taylor and he'd blow away Morgan. And Michigan's QBs are terrible. McCaffrey may be better if he develops, but sure isn't right now.
  4. The conservative offense hurt him as much as it helped him because yards and TDs are a big component of passer rating. I watch enough college football to see that for all but about 15 or so teams he would start. You only see the big-time schools on national TV, and other than those top 15 schools he's as good or better than anybody else. Please name who he wouldn't start for, at least in the Big Ten.
  5. He was tied for 19th in the nation (with Sam Ehlinger) last year in passer rating, and at least four of the guys ahead of him are in the NFL. Only Fields and Morgan in the Big Ten were ahead of him and if Coan was on Minnesota I'd bet he would start over Morgan. Put Coan in Minnesota's offense and he'd have better numbers than Morgan.
  6. Coan would start for all but about 15 DI schools. He's a very good QB... but Mertz is just a whole 'nother level.
  7. Graham Freakin Mertz
  8. They need to start running some jet sweeps with Guerrendo, or at least fake them, to get this defense to stop crashing in on every play.
  9. Andy Vujnovich in his first punt may have hit the best punt the Badgers have had in at least five years.
  10. And the Graham Mertz era begins...
  11. Unfortunately, for a certain segment of the population, having a close family member hospitalized is what it's going to take to get them to take this seriously. I wonder how much misinformation people like that have gotten from Russian/Chinese/Iranian/North Korean hackers via social media and other means, taking advantage of confirmation bias to affect mindset and behavior.
  12. Knock on wood that they don't have any injuries to the ILBs as they have no developed depth there. The backup listed at both spots is a former walk-on who has pretty much been a special teams and mop-up duty guy until now and the next guy up is a redshirt freshman who hasn't played a down and behind him is true freshmen.
  13. If they had "warts", then what did the 21 teams with a worse wRC+ at 1B over those years have?
  14. It's amazing how people think that Thames and Aguilar were terrible, and don't remember that, for all of his strikeouts, Chris Carter had a .821 OPS (and wRC+ of 113, and hit 41 HRs).
  15. To me it seems like Machu Peach is looking at things at a national level and Peavey is looking at thing at a Wisconsin level. That, I believe, is the disconnect. (Not everyone on this board lives in WI ) Considering NY has 3.3x the population of WI, and the most WI has seen in deaths in a day is 48 (21/day on the seven-day moving average), NY was worse back in March/April (up to 1,000 deaths/day) than WI is today. WI is by far the worst that it has ever been, getting worse by the day, and is on the brink of being overrun, that is not disputable. Both of you are correct.
  16. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30100016/baseball-hall-famer-joe-morgan-dies-77 I had no idea he passed away six days ago. Morgan put up a career bWAR of 100.7 and in his back-to-back MVP seasons of 1975/1976 combined for 20.6 bWAR. Six consecutive seasons of an OBP >.400 including a .466 OBP in 1975 and eight seasons drawing over 100 walks. I enjoyed listening to him in the booth as well.
  17. Wisconsin's OL that game: Ricky Wagner, John Moffitt, Peter Konz, Kevin Zeitler, Gabe Carimi Backup/injured: Travis Frederick, Ryan Groy (wore #89 and played TE that game), Rob Havenstein, Bill Nagy, Josh Oglesby Oglesby was the only one of those ten not to play in the NFL. Oglesby and Groy were the only ones not drafted.
  18. Ten years ago today... The funny thing is that after Wisconsin won the coin toss and elected to receive, Brent Musberger said, "There's Jim Tressel, you'll see his defense early tonight as the Badgers won the toss..." No, no you won't.
  19. On the news this morning they suggested using a long tube to deliver candy to the kids. Not a dumb idea, get 6+ feet of PVC pipe and slide the candy down to them.
  20. Continuing the discussion on who to extend and who not to extend, who is gone, etc., from the NFL thread... Bakh, IMO, is the clear #1 priority. But it gets a lot more complicated after that because not only do you have Jones and Linsley, but Adams is a FA after 2021. They need to figure out how to keep him first. 2022 is going to be the problem year, as they'll have Rodgers, Clark, Bakh, and likely Adams under big contracts and it will be hard to part with Z if he keeps producing like this even though he'll be due $20M. They'll be able to jettison Turner ($5.8M), Lowry ($5.8M), P. Smith ($12.5M), and Amos ($7.9M), and Kirksey ($8M) and Wagner ($6M) will be gone. That's $46M, But they also have to replace those guys on the roster. I wouldn't be surprised if Preston Smith is gone sooner rather than later; if he's dropping back into coverage a lot then he isn't worth $16M/year. They might be able to trade him, as the $8M cap hit is half of his $16M salary, and he might look good to another team on a 2/$24M non-guaranteed deal.
  21. Can we bring the conversation about Packers players back to the Packers thread?
  22. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/survey-of-16k-us-respondents--political-uncertainty-drives-mistrust-of-covid-19-vaccine-301153380.html Survey of 16,000 people in the US, and 65% say they will wait to get the vaccine until either their doctor approves or until "enough people" get it to know it works. Hopefully lots of doctors have outreach programs to their patients and the community letting them know that they believe it's safe and have taken it themselves. 35% compliance isn't going to accomplish much. 11% say they'll never take it. I think the only thing that might change their mind is if a close friend or family member dies... or winds up with a $100,000 hospital bill.
  23. Season opener against Illinois set for 7pm, Friday, October 23rd. Was hoping for an afternoon game and decent weather to at least try to get people to watch it outside, but looks like the bars and living rooms will be packed to the gills that Friday night.
  24. This might work, too:
