  1. There are three or four draft value charts floating around out there. But it's just a starting point. Then you factor in the value of the players who are still on the board and where the dropoffs in talent are. For example, if you think there is a big dropoff in talent at the beginning of the fourth round, then those 4th round picks have to be discounted because the value isn't there. If you are moving up to get a guy, chances are you have a higher grade on him than that pick and you already have excess value and can give up a little more in pick value. Chances are the draft talent isn't linear in value like the draft value charts are, thus you adjust what the pick values are. Then you factor in who you are moving ahead of, particularly if there is a division rival or another team you think will pick the guy.
  2. Not a bad year. Off by a round with Sternberger and Hollman, and got Ramsey and Bolton as UDFAs. Joey got Sternberger with the right pick and JosephC got Hollman in the right round (not the right pick).
  3. Count me among those who thought Biloxi would have a hard time scoring 14 runs in a week. Houser continuing the Brewers pitchers' push for keeping the DH. The Brewers must really want to keep him stretched out as a starter with their need for a long man in the bullpen. Might be a leading indicator that Chacin might not be back next year.
  4. Find Will's Northwoods Inn on Racine Ave. and park on the west side of Racine Ave or anywhere west of there for free. Have lunch at Will's. 15 minute walk to the stadium. After the stadium go back to Will's and have dinner while the traffic subsides.
  5. Some things we can deduce based off of the past two days: 1) The Packers are a lot more confident in their receiver corps than we are. B) Given that the oldest receiver on the roster, Kumerow, is 27, there may be good reason to be confident. 3) The Packers are confident in Billy Turner sliding out to RT, and the plan is for him to play RG this year and move out to RT next. They may even be confident in Cole Madison sliding back out there if needed. 4) They value triangle numbers on defense. 5) Don't put any weight on the prospects they bring in for visits who project to be 1st/2nd round picks. Those are backup plans and smokescreens. Other thoughts: 6) Kingsley Keke is a good value pick. Very athletic, tore up the Senior Bowl. I had him in my first draft before the Senior Bowl, but thought he played his way up to 3rd round. 7) Gary and Keke both offer a lot of positional versatility. They can play DE on rush downs and slide inside on passing downs.
  6. I think my preference would be Risner, A. J. Brown, Samuel, Little, Lock, Campbell, in that order. Can probably grab one of Sternberger, Knox, or Oliver in the 3rd to shore up TE.
  7. Gary did miss a month this year due to injury. He may not have been 100% after coming back, and if he does have a labrum tear, he may have been playing through that injury. CMIII was kind of a workout warrior who didn't have a lot of production in college. You never know. They could have given up the next TJ Lang and Josh Sitton to get Savage. They could have given up the next Marviel Underwood and Jeremy Thompson. One thing is for sure - don't put a lot of stock in who the Packers bring in for visits. Neither Gary nor Savage visited, and I'll bet it's the same with the 2nd round pick.
  8. After the Packers drafted Nick Collins right in front of Baltimore, Baltimore's GM called TT and congratulated him on the pick and said that Baltimore was going to take him with their pick. There were rumors that Baltimore was really high on Savage after releasing Weddle in the offseason. History may have repeated itself.
  9. For those panicking over no OT yet, I'll throw out a name - Chuma Edoga, OT, USC. Undersized (6'3", 308), but that was the knock on Bakhtiari (6'4", 299) and why Bak lasted until the 4th. Edoga has very long arms though (34 3/4") so he can likely stay at tackle, and only allowed four pressures all season last year. Highly likely he's still there in the 3rd.
  10. The last time Green Bay picked a safety ahead of Baltimore was Nick Collins. Nobody had him mocked in the 2nd round. Or anywhere close.
  11. I never said Gary was a good pick. It was pretty clear that I wanted Wilkins.
  12. Walter does perhaps the least amount of homework of any of the internet draftniks, so I don't place a whole lot of weight on his opinion.
  13. If the Giants are smart, they get their LT to protect Jones in Dillard here.
  14. Got stats to prove it? PFF had Fackrell rated as the #44 edge rusher in the NFL last year. Considering that there are 32 teams in the league, he graded out as a starter.
  15. When your 4th best pass rusher had 10.5 sacks last year, you've got a pretty darned good pass rush.
  16. That's why I wanted him.
  17. Think about this - that's faster than Hockenson ran the 40 at almost 30 lbs heavier.
  18. Going for triangle numbers. Not sure how I feel about that. That being said, Michigan ran a defense where the DL focused more on controlling the line and freeing up the LBs to make plays.
  19. Clark is young, but that's the problem in two years - he will be a very expensive re-sign.
  20. There are two guys I do not want at #12. Taylor is one, Metcalf is the other. Taylor has all the makings of a guy who will get lazy and fat after he gets a big payday.
  21. Either that or one or both of Sweat and Wilkins will be there. I'd rather the Lions have Hockenson than Oliver or Sweat.
  22. As for Lindstrom and any other guy who projects at guard, the Packers MO has definitely not been to draft an interior OL on day 1, and you have to go back to Daryn Colledge to find a day 2 pick. Particularly with the money they invested in Turner, and with Madison coming back. I would be really, really surprised if they go interior OL prior to the 3rd round, if not day 3.
  23. Clemson played four teams that finished in the top 20 in the polls - Alabama, Notre Dame, Syracuse, and Texas A&M. In the national championship game, Ferrell and Wilkins had more TFL (2.5) and sacks (0.5) than Quinnen Williams and Raekwon Davis (1.5, 0).
  24. If that lineman is Ed Oliver, heck yes, sign me up. If it is Wilkins, I'm not a big fan. Found out today that PFF had Wilkins rated among the top 3 interior DL in both run stopping grade and pass rushing grade. That, coupled with Daniels being a FA after this year and Clark being a FA after 2020 (he will be a very expensive re-sign), and I'm feeling even more strongly that it's Wilkins. Plus, he probably has the least amount of question marks of any player in the draft, which is probably why he is rising in mocks. People get enamored with the updside around the combine/pro days, but then as the draft gets closer the question marks/risks get bigger and more scrutinized.
