  1. Organizational sweep! Victor Castaneda has been impressive since he returned to action - 8.1 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 11 K.
  2. Innocent until proven they can't generate significant revenue.
  3. Wednesday's start would be up in the air as well. Nelson is slated to pitch on Tuesday, so it makes sense. I think it's likely that we see Jimmy's debut this week. Of course, Wilkerson is the AAA version of Cy Young this year, so it wouldn't surprise me to see him come up and make a spot start too. Wow is it nice having so much solid starting pitching depth at the team's disposal. Wednesday is Wilkerson's turn in the rotation, since he last pitched on Friday.
  4. Creighton is being investigated as part of the recent scandal. https://www.omaha.com/creighton/mens-basketball/recruit-s-father-testifies-cu-assistant-offered-jays-say-fbi/article_5efd33c5-459d-5fa7-972f-244077019ddb.html https://www.omaha.com/creighton/mens-basketball/timeline-details-creighton-s-involvement-in-college-basketball-s-corruption/article_1edf77ab-4bdd-54e7-819c-fc35fff2777b.html
  5. Miguel Sanchez has given up earned runs in only one of his last 11 appearances and has his ERA down to 2.28.
  6. If only it were that simple. Hopefully Wilkerson is on the upswing in terms of talent growth but he hasn't shown anything in the majors to suggest he'd be more effective than Peralta. He could be the AAAA player he's shown himself to be so far. I think some people underestimate how difficult it is being shuttled back and forth between the majors and AAA, often with no advance notice because they need a fresh arm, and how stressful it is to know/think that you only have one or two opportunities to impress in order to stay. I know on one of his callups his luggage got lost/delayed, and he had to borrow somebody else's shoes - for something as precise as pitching, to suddenly be in a different pair of shoes trying to pitch off of a mound can't be easy. He's never had the luxury of being told he has a spot on the team and has more than one or two appearances to prove himself. Sometimes the worst thing that can happen to someone is to feel like you only have one chance and thus have to be perfect.
  7. [sarcasm]Smooth move, ex-lax.[/sarcasm]
  8. And the Brewers 1B position does not go homerless for the month of May...
  9. Ugghhh.... 8.2 IP of no hit/no walk ball for Supak, gives up a soft fly ball double.
  10. Trey Supak has something special going on - flip on the Biloxi game right now
  11. not yet, but I hope we do... pouring it on is a lot more fun that being poured on... As far as I'm concerned, it can start pouring right now. Cut this one off early.
  12. The good thing is that with such a good record this past year, better players will be willing to play for the MLE to have a shot at a title. Brook Lopez has already made $117M in his career; he might be willing to come back for the $5.7M MLE. If I'm prioritizing, it's Middleton, Brogdon, Hill, Lopez. I just hope that Middleton doesn't pull a Dallas Keuchel and think he's worth a max contract when he isn't.
  13. As of a couple of years ago, only two schools in the Big Ten did not allow NCAA minimum qualifiers - UW and Illinois. Northwestern allows them; they just don't get good recruits because of zero history of success and because their facilities are awful. If you've never been to their football stadium, you'd think you were at a FCS or DII school. They just renovated their basketball arena, and it still is a sub-par glorified gymnasium. It seats a little over 7,000 people.
  14. I really hope that ESPN shows the 30 for 30 on the Boston Red Sox to honor Buckner's passing, because Buckner had an integral part in that film and the filmmakers did a great job of creating empathy for Buckner and what he went through.
  15. With football it's easy to make the argument that if you want to play in the NFL you need to be able to play in cold weather, especially if you want to win Super Bowls (Patriots, Packers, Steelers, etc.), so might as well play at a cold weather school and go to UW. And frankly, playing football in 90-100 degree weather in September (and practicing in August) is arguably worse than playing outdoors in November. Really can't make that argument in basketball as it's indoors all the time. Also, don't underestimate the draw of the Camp Randall experience - I have friends who don't live in WI and have been to many college football games and they say that Camp Randall is one of the best experiences they've ever had. Looks to me like the Hausers want a shot at a national championship, thus Michigan State and Virginia. They probably know they aren't playing in the NBA (Joey at least, Sam has a shot) so might as well go for that NCAA ring.
  16. Which ILBs in the NFL are better? Which other ones have you seen play as much as Martinez and can base this off of? One of the things that bugs me among the fan boards I browse is when a person claims a player to be better/worse than average, but only watches that team and rarely any others. They expect a player to be above average only if they execute every single play, but the reality is that most players on other teams make just as many mistakes if not more.
  17. He's not "holding out" - it's OTA's, they're voluntary.
  18. He made no public demands to be traded. It was reported by anonymous sources.
  19. Payton Henry struggling big time right now - hitless in 5 of his last 6 and 9 of his last 12. .114 AVG and .423 OPS in May.
  20. Every year there will be players drafted after #39 who go on to have very productive major league careers. That is not the question; the question is the probability of that pick becoming a productive major leaguer, and that probability does not increase after pick #39. The probability decreases.
  21. Weren't we equally sure that they weren't going to let him go over 3 IP/50 pitches as well? He's already in Double A. If he's healthy and throwing well, I think they use him in the post-season or in a post-season push. I don't know who "we" is, but my opinion is based on the Brewers recent track record with pitchers who underwent TJ procedures. Adrian Houser - who the Brewers allowed to eclipse 80 pitches on three occasions last year - was shut down after September 1st, even though his rehab started in 2017 and pitched 28 innings in 2017. The major league bullpen was a little full last September, but they didn't send him to the AFL either. He only threw 92 innings total on the season last year. Rasmussen's innings have been light - low pitch counts - so he may very well see more than 100 innings this year. But I don't foresee many more than that.
  22. After missing all of last year and only pitching a total of 64 innings between 2017 and 2016 combined, I'd be shocked if the Brewers allow Rasmussen to pitch into September.
  23. A strong argument could be made that Albers was (is) a sunk cost and a declining asset, and that Lyles was a better option. However, had Jeffress and Knebel not gotten injured in spring training, and had Anderson not been needed in the rotation due to Burnes horrible start, there is a very good chance that Albers doesn't make the team, or at least certainly gets released by the time Nelson returns. In that case, it could have been Lyles getting released and a waste of $3.5M. Young pitchers are probably going to struggle at first, but they can only learn so much at AAA. Eventually they have to take their lumps in the majors and get experience against major league hitters. It's easy to say guys have options and send them to AAA, but that eventually offers no additional benefit.
