  1. Wilkerson being Wilkerson. Ramirez being Ramirez (1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER; 1-1 w/a RBI). Those two deserve a shot somewhere. Might not be here, but if another team is looking for major-league ready guys in a trade there's two of them for you.
  2. Got your wish
  3. Did Sogard just swing at the first pitch after two wild pitches and a throwing error by Martinez?
  4. Last night Jordan Yamamoto went seven innings giving up two hits and striking out 13. I think he was a bigger piece to the Yelich deal than some think.
  5. I think there will be a fairly clear-cut top 8 (except for the usual outliers) - Hiura, Peralta, Burnes, Ortiz, Z. Brown, Ray, Phillips, Turang (assuming he signs). Then a somewhat consistent but wildly ranging in order #9-20 where you have Nottingham, Houser, Lutz, Dubon, and then what seems like half of the Biloxi team (Stokes, Medeiros, Gatewood, Supak, Grisham, Erceg, Ponce, Diplan). Then it gets interesting. You have some A-ball guys that tend to get forgotten about (Bickford, N. Kirby, Webb, Orimoloye, Herrera, Harber, Roegner, Segovia, Owenby) and recent 2nd round HS draft picks (D. Williams, Feliciano, Lemons, Gray, Bello) and high-bonus DSL kids (Rodriguez, Ernesto). Then it depends whether you favor upper level production even if it is in a bench/bullpen role (Perrin, Jankins, Lopez, QT-C, Ramirez, Moore, Hager, Derby, McDowell, Orf) or rookie ball guys with upside (Carmona, Familia, Vasalotti, Sibrian, Abreu, Egnatuk, EW Martinez, Ward). I think between the Biloxi team, the A-ball guys, and recent 2nd round draft picks there won't be much room for rookie ball guys but we'll see. Agree, #18-25 will be all over the place. And lots of time for guys like Peralta and Houser to graduate. There is a lot of talent in the system even if it only has a couple of top-100 prospects.
  6. Who is Jesse Williams on the AZL squad? Says he is 19 so I would think in this or last year's draft class but he is in neither. Wasn't on DSL squad last year. A rare HS UDFA? Haven't seen his signing listed though. Bats L, listed at 6'4", 192. Good to see Blake Lillis pitching again.
  7. Not so good rehab start for Davies. 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R/ER, 1 BB, 2 K. Not sure what the targeted pitch count was, but actual was 31. I'd have to believe it was targeted to be much more than that. 30 IP is usually for the first couple outings after coming back from major surgery. Peralta might be here for a while.
  8. Montgomery racking up a ton of pitches early tonight for the Cubs, who basically used every prominent reliever aside from Morrow in the earlier game today and lost - hoping he either gets hung out to dry during a big Dodger inning, or gets an early hook to further gas a bullpen that won't see another off day until July 2nd. If they have any home games all it takes is a sprinkle to have a rainout.
  9. Snark aside, is there any reason that Jesus Aguilar can't be the next Nelson Cruz? Cruz didn't show anything in the majors until he was 27 and then... boom.
  10. The problem is that both are on this team right now.
  11. This is the big picture here. A lefty specialist is kind of the exception to the "small sample" rule - a lefty specialist has a very specific job, which is to get left-handed hitters out. They don't get 100 innings to figure it out, they don't get 50 innings to figure it out. If they are doing a poor job of getting LHH out and it's been at least 20-25 batters... they are not doing their job. That being said, today's game wasn't on pen management - it was on getting one run on only five hits and one walk over 9 innings.
  12. I think the wild card is going to be Rasmussen. He doesn't have a lot of leverage, but he has the talent to turn down a really low offer. I'm guessing he signs for around $50K-75K, giving the Brewers another $175K or more, but it will be really close to the deadline.
  13. I kind of figured this to be the case (under-slot signing) as this appeared to be a bit of an over-draft along with Bello's early indications that he was signing. Kind of odd to do an underslot HS kid in the 2nd round, but it happens in the first round so maybe not so strange.
  14. Had no idea Logan throws 95-96. If he can harness that they have another weapon.
  15. Pitching is fragile and the Cubs do not have the pitching depth to survive a season. Darvish is fragile, Lester is 34, Chatwood has never thrown more than 165 innings in a season, no minor league depth... they have bats, but you can make a strong argument that they don't have the pitching to get there. If they have another starter go down they are in trouble.
  16. Corey Ray's last four games: 2-18, 1 BB (intentional), 10 K. .641 OPS for the month of June so far. Interesting lineup for Helena: Coca (2B), Pinero (SS), Carmona (3B), Egnatuk (DH). Going to be interesting seeing how that shakes out over the season. A really good sign that Egnatuk was promoted.
  17. And he loses it with two out in the 9th... ugh. "Singles on a soft fly ball to center" They let him finish it though: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R/ER, 0 BB, 8 K, 109 pitches
  18. But still a very good reason to flip over and view the 9th on MILB Gameday...
