  1. Not much difference between them. Buxton's career: 6.7% BB, 31.6% K, wOBA .294, wRC+ 79 Broxton's career: 10.7% BB, 37.2% K, wOBA .312, wRC+ 93 You could make an argument that Broxton is a better player offensively. I haven't seen much of Buxton defensively, but to be a 3.5 fWAR player last year he must be the best thing in CF since Willie Mays.
  2. Two very nice starts in a row for Ponce. Take away the stinker on May 8th (his first game after a brief stint on the DL) and he's actually had a pretty good season. Really interesting line for Webb. Six walks and eight K's in 5.1 IP but only throws 88 pitches. Despite the six walks, over 60% of his pitches were strikes. Gets a lot of ground balls too. Hopefully he's *this close* to putting it all together.
  3. Luis Ortiz has been more successful than Ray at a much younger age. But he's on the DL right now - out of sight, out of mind. Zack Brown was in the same draft class, is a couple of months younger, and has put up better numbers for a pitcher than Ray has for a hitter. You could easily argue he's been more successful than Ray. He doesn't have the first round pedigree, but Burnes was a 4th round pick so that shouldn't disqualify Brown. Adrian Houser was in the majors at younger age than Ray is now. He's been quite unlucky with a .385 BABIP this year, but has a 10.2 K/9 against only 2.4 BB/9. Troy Stokes and Jake Gatewood put up better numbers at a younger age than Ray last year. This is just limiting to guys who are at AA or above. There are a number of guys who could arguably be in that #5 position if you take away the draft status of Ray and the last week of his stats.
  4. Interesting exercise. Generally agree, except for Chacin and Wilkerson. Wilkerson belongs on the line with Houser. Starting pitchers under control at pre-arb salaries have value. It's hard to comp as he has not been given much of an opportunity (except for a really good start against the Cardinals at the end of last season).
  5. What is unimpressive is the much bigger sample of his entire 2016 and 2017 seasons. Keep in mind, it's still early in 2018. If he still has these numbers in August, then we can get excited.
  6. Or Santana can DH. Creates a nice opening in RF for Phillips to play every day.
  7. Wait, you mean there ARE other beverages? Whiskey and vodka. I heard there's this tequila stuff down in Mexico too.
  8. DL Braun, bring up Phillips, use Santana as the DH and upgrade the defense.
  9. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=203447 Somewhat explained by his BABIP - .352 as a FR, .288 as a SO, .252 as a JR - although his BB rate is down slightly this year and his K rate slightly up, but still much higher BB rate than K rate. Never confuse trends with absolute value. The truth is likely closest to his SO year... which is still pretty darned good.
  10. This is not a discussion about letting Gennett go a year and a half ago. This is a discussion about trading for him NOW.
  11. Hell, I'd pay a premium for Lowre and Lucroy right now. While the A's are hanging close to .500, they are 8th in the AL and fourth in their own division. One of the Yankees/Red Sox will grab one wild card, then they have to leapfrog the Angels, Mariners, and Blue Jays for the other one.
  12. From what I recall, Gennett made some adjustments to his swing/mechanics in Cincy. It's not unheard of to pick up power and become a decent hitter after age 25. Nelson Cruz is the obvious example, but Brian Dozier hit 16 home runs in his entire minor league career (1613 PAs), then 18 in the majors at age 26, then 23 at age 27, and the rest is history. Just because a guy is average at best at age 25/26 doesn't mean he'll stay that way. And I don't care that he can't hit LHP (.691 OPS last year, which is better than the Brewers overall OPS from 2B this year) - 70% of pitchers are right-handed, and he OPS'd .930 against said RHP last year.
  13. Segovia with his first dinger on the year (second in his career), is 2-2 and now hitting .412. Biloxi facing two major leagers making rehab appearances. DeSclafani had a really good year and Lorenzen is kind of the Reds' Barnes. Zack Brown going toe to toe with both of them so far.
  14. Well, he already has. And he dominated the Cardinals none the less.
  15. I think we were watching different games. I didn't see a whole lot of stuff down the middle. I saw a lot of stuff along the edges of the zone and while he didn't have pinpoint control he had strong command - when they wanted the pitch on the outside part it was on the outside part, when the wanted it up it was up, when they wanted it inside or down it was inside or down. I thought he was successful because he used all parts of the plate and was great at changing hitter's eye level because of working up and down, in and out.
  16. If you're not sure if you'd give up said player(s) in a deal and also think the other team may want more, then it's likely a fair trade. If the Brewers are serious in contending this year, they make a package offer for both Lowrie and Lucroy. Ponce, Stokes, one of Derby/Perrin (with Villar thrown in)?
  17. Aaron Wilkerson is back, and a nice outing at that. Couldn't come at a better time with all the SPs on the DL. Another arm to play roster shuffle with.
  18. Quite the pitching performance for the entire minor league org tonight. Three teams held to one run, one team shut out, four wins. Has anyone seen Jankins in person recently or have a recent scouting report? I would guess that he has added a very effective pitch.
  19. Stroman put on the DL, and has a 7.71 ERA. Archer gave up 6 ER tonight and has an ERA pushing 6.00. Dodging a bullet so far.
  20. I'm guessing this means that they think Davies might miss another start or two and don't want to be in the position to have to wait 10 days to call Woodruff back up. Games like last night can happen to anyone in Colorado. Barnes with a .379 BABIP this year - hard to believe that a 2.84 ERA/3.26 FIP is the result of bad luck, but it appears so.
