  1. Cardinals had Lance Lynn and Carlos Martinez in the pen each for a year, didn't hurt their careers. They were also legitimate title contenders thought.
  2. Gilbert Lara's OPS now at .399. Yes, that's OPS, not SLG.
  3. Right now I'm of the "anyone but Jeren Kendall" opinion. The Brewers already have that player profile - Corey Ray - and it isn't working out well in the pros. The power and speed combo is nice, but I don't want to spend another first round draft pick on a questionable hit tool (55 K in 215 PAs, barely hitting .300) trying to chase power and athleticism. As far as bats I like Pavin Smith and Adam Haseley much more than Kendall. For reference, in almost exactly the same # of PAs Pavin Smith has struck out only 7 times compared to Kendall's 55. Haseley's had an even better year, slugging .680 with an OBP just below .500. I also like Keston Hiura; 40 BB in less than 200 PAs is pretty impressive. An OBP of .555 at any level is very impressive. As for pitchers, I'm definitely on board with David Peterson. I did a double-take when I saw that in 81 IP he struck out 117 and walked 8. Yes, 8. I think my preference would be Peterson, Smith, Hiura (if he can play 2B), Haseley, Heimlich, DL Hall in that order. One guy I don't see in the top 200 is Aaron Arruda. He's had two really good years for Fresno State, and could be a nice pick in rounds 5-6 if they don't get Pavin Smith in the 1st.
  4. Good to see Burkhalter back, he had a very nice season going as a 20-year-old in low-A last year before being sidelined. His K:BB rate was third behind Perrin and Zack Brown.
  5. The Packers have in fact signed Michael Clark as a UDFA.
  6. Brewcrewdue80, my recommendation would be for you to pick your stats, then list how many pitchers fit those parameters. The stats that define who is a #1/#2 will vary from person to person, but if you pick your stats first then do analytics on those stats you will find out objectively whether they are on-target or not. What is not subjective is that there are 15 #1 pitchers in the NL and 15 #2s. If you want to average those 15 to define what a #1/#2 is, fine, but whatever you do the top 30 define what a #1 and a #2 are.
  7. Clark and Ray aren't looking good so far...
  8. Hey, Deon-Tay McManus was invited to try out for the Packers! Not officially a UDFA yet, but could be!
  9. Tom James custom clothing If you live in Madison, Milwaukee, or Chicago let me know - I can hook you up with my Tom James rep who makes great custom tailored shirts and suits for a reasonable (not cheap - reasonable) price. I've been buying dress shirts and suits from him for over 15 years. I'm 6'3", have a 47" chest, 36" long arms, and a 10-12" drop from my chest to my waist depending on how in-shape I am. If anything is big enough in the shoulders/chest and long enough in the arms, the rest of the shirt usually fits like a tent. Jackets are the worst; button-up shirts you can kind of take in on the sides, but not with jackets and the sleeves are usually 1-2" too short.
  10. Really nice outing by Diplan as well.
  11. Remember, in order to go on the practice squad they have to pass through waivers first. If they show to be good players, someone else will likely claim them, a la Charles Johnson and Lawrence Guy.
  12. With a three run lead you throw strikes and make them beat you. Solo HRs don't hurt. Nibbling on the corners and walking a couple of guys is the last thing you want to do. Feliz did his job.
  13. Well, what do you know. The Cardinals make errors and have closers blow up too. Imagine that.
  14. I have low expectations of 7th round picks, and that is really the point where you take the best player available, but there comes a point where you simply won't have roster spots to keep these guys barring any injuries. I like the Mays pick; I think he can be a sleeper, but they already had drafted two RBs. They will be hard pressed to have a roster spot for Yancey much less Dupre. Again, barring injuries they will likely have to put draft picks on waivers, at which it becomes somewhat pointless to draft them in the first place. Very surprised they didn't go ILB, but Jones is 6'1" 220. I would not be surprised if the base defense is a 4-2-5 with Jones or Burnett as a hybrid SS/LB. That being said, why draft a WR or RB in the 7th you will probably have to put on waivers when you can draft an ILB who has a shot at a roster spot because of a lack of depth? Overall I give it a C. I think they could have moved back a few spots and still gotten King, or one of Witherspoon (very similar player)/Moreau. I like the Adams pick more than most, the J. Jones pick is growing on me (particularly if they go the 4-2-5 with three safeties), and of course I love the Biegel and A. Jones picks. Not sure if Williams has the speed to do what they need, and I think they could have gotten Yancey later and shored up ILB in the 5th and taken a shot at Dupre as a priority UDFA.
  15. "Salary relief" is the default action with trades - the contract goes with the player. The team that the player is going to is getting "salary relief" by the previous team picking up part of the contract.
  16. At what point does a small sample turn into flip-flopping Harrison and Clark?
  17. Including the 2 HRs today his OPS is still <.800, so yes, he has struggled the whole month.
  18. So somewhat ironic, I just realized that the Packers passed on T.J. Watt to get Kevin King and Vince Biegel.
  19. I think that a backup PG, specifically Bronson Koenig, would be a really good 2nd round pick. Koenig is definitely a shooter who can create his own shot.
  20. Based on pre-draft visits, I'd put Ryan Watson, Eric Wilson, and Keion Adams at the top of the list for the 7th round.
  21. Kofi Amichia was a pre-draft visit for the Packers and played LT for South Florida. Good athlete, ran a 4.99 at their pro day, but on the shorter side (6'3" 1/2") so he'll likely move to guard. This was the first pick in the draft of a player who NFL.com had not profiled.
  22. I once hit five out of six - that's as good as I get. As a general rule I think you can get good value for WRs in round 5, and I think Yancey is a good pick (maybe a round or two early), but the question I have is who do you cut to make room for him? Janis is one of the best special teams players in the league, and he's come a long way since drafted; he didn't play much as a receiver last year because their receivers were healthy, and they designed that end-around play specifically for him and his athleticism. Davis was drafted for his speed just last year. And you don't just cut a guy with Cobb's talent. I was *this* close to putting Adams in the 3rd round. For a guy his size, running a 4.87 at the combine is pretty darned fast. The Packers have little patience for players who are suspended, and I think Guion is on the outside looking in. This draft is pretty thin with 3-4 DEs and there wasn't much left at that point. Adams will play. As for the Khyri Thornton comparison, Adams played against top talent in the SEC and Thornton is still in the league (and I think signed a multi-year extension this offseason); he just took a while to develop.
  23. This will happen about a half-dozen times a year with every baseball team.
  24. Plenty of good RBs left, and I'm shocked Connor went this high - his speed measurables at the combine and pro day for a RB were awful (his 3-cone was about the same as some of their OL at their pro day, and 40 was close to 4.70) which is why I thought he'd slip down to a UDFA. Take a look at Aaron Jones of UTEP - smaller school guy but has great short area quickness (among the top 3-cone, 20/60 yard shuttles, and verticals) and can make guys miss. All four of his years he put up a run >70 yards and 3 of the 4 had a long run of >80 yards. Jeremy McNichols and Marlon Mack are also still on the board; McNichols ran a 4.49 at the combine, had one of the top 3-cone times, can make guys miss and is a weapon in the passing game (but questionable in blocking skills). Six of Mack's 15 TDs last year went for >40 yards, but he did have fumble problems. Dorian Johnson and Isaac Asiata are still on the board to boost interior OL depth - I wouldn't be surprised if the Pack grabs one of them with one of their 4ths. Vince Biegel still on the board, as are Anthony Walker and Jordan Evans. Also surprised that Bucky Hodges is still on the board; don't be surprised if...
  25. Have to wonder what happens to Conley after the rape allegations, but it sounds like he has not been arrested (and supposedly has multiple witnesses who corroborate his story) so it seems like the evidence may not be there. Still thinking it's one of Watt, Conley, or Adoree Jackson. Don't know what to think of the signing of Jahri Evans. Probably makes it less likely the go OG in the first three rounds, but I still think they draft at least one interior OL. Probably more likely they go CB in the 2nd (Witherspoon, maybe Moreau), ILB in the 3rd (Walker or Jordan Evans), and then interior OL in rounds 4/5.
