  1. Is there anyone still out there that the Brewers can use this $885K on? It is for this period only, not next period.
  2. I wonder if Wang's in the pen because Garza is rehabbing.
  3. Debate the ceiling of these guys, but if Hader/Lopez/Woodruff are your #1-3, then fill in Davies as the #4 and one of Taylor Williams (if he can stretch out)/Lopez/Perrin/Jungmann/Wilkerson as your #5, that's a pretty darned good rotation. Leaves a lot of flexibility with what to do with Peralta, Nelson and Anderson.
  4. Peralta and Diplan combine to strike out 15. Diplan's outing was pretty impressive, Peralta... well, the 9 K's in 5 IP were impressive.
  5. Thames tied for 2nd in the NL in dingers. Tied for first in the AL? Khris Davis.
  6. Brandon Woodward overcame a some early wildness to get the win. Woodward lead off the game by hitting the first Redbird batter, then walked a pair. He almost escaped unharmed except for an error by Garrett Cooper allowed an unearned run to score. For the game, Woodward didn’t allow an earned run in five innings. He walked three and allowed only one hit, while striking out five. Woodward? I know that journalism doesn't pay much, but if you cover the team you should know the team and you should always - always - take the time to proofread what you wrote regardless of what spell-check on Word says. And turn auto-correct off. More solid outings for Woodruff and Ponce. Williams was a little shaky, but despite three walks and a hit in two innings didn't give up a run. Perrin has been very good in the Williams-Perrin piggy-back, and I'm this close to hopping on the Thomas Jankins bandwagon. The minor league pitching is looking up so far...
  7. I don't think that anyone thinks that Nelson and Anderson are going to keep up what they've been doing, but if those guys can be sitting with an ERA around 3.00-3.50 in July that could create an interesting dilema of whether to keep them or trade them.
  8. Former Brewer 3rd round draft pick Barrett Astin on the mound. Without looking, who was he traded for?
  9. Watching Jays-O's and Gausman is just filthy. Hitting 97 on the corners and has some serious movement on his 2-seamer.
  10. You mean like Millone? Well, yeah, thought of that as soon as I typed it, but they don't have to start Milone - it should be Jungmann or Lopez (not like they are young and still working their way up like Hader and Woodruff), and Guerra and Garza are injured. In reality, Milone should be their #9 starter.
  11. Nice to have a debate about 7-8 realistic SP options and not have to trot out the likes of Arroyo
  12. WR is another position that is very deep this year. The challenge is that in college with the spread offenses/hurry-up tempos the sideline signals the play in and the WR runs the route without having to read the defense, so they do need time to adjust to the NFL. That being said, because WR is so deep I think there are more Geronimo Allison's than people realize. Let them put two WRs on the practice squad to develop for a year to learn NFL defense-reading. The problem with drafting one now is, where do you put them? You just can't carry seven WRs on the roster. You need your 5th/6th WR to be special teams players, which is where Janis excels. (BTW, the knock on Janis his first two years was learning routes but he did a pretty good job of tracking the ball in the playoffs two years ago. Last year he didn't play much because the WRs were healthy and because Allison was so good.)
  13. Gamecast just said that Feliz hit 100mph on his fastball...
  14. Forget triple-doubles, Giannis could become the first player in NBA history to finish among the top 20 in points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks for an entire season. On top of that, lead the team to the playoffs despite losing Parker. Should be in the MVP conversation.
  15. This morning the Chicago news, of course, was focused on the Cubs home opener. But they spent a lot of time talking about this new park, The Park at Wrigley, and repeatedly called it a "family-friendly" park that will show "family-friendly" movies. The word "family" was used repeatedly. I hope the implication is that with their new success, and increased demand for tickets, advertising, and other revenue sources, they will be much less tolerant of the typical frat boy drunks that pollute the place in making it "family-friendly".
  16. Noticed Daz Cameron leading off for Quad Cities. I remember how the Astros were praised for the pool juggling they did to sign him, but so far it hasn't been a great investment. Obviously still very young, but career .652 OPS. Tucker Neuhaus and Cody Ponce with great games. Would be great to see those guys take a couple of steps forward this year.
  17. The Brewers #1 priority for Hader this season is to get his innings up to 150 so that he can go 180+ in 2018. Remember, he only threw 126 innings last year. The best way to ensure he gets up to 150 is in the minors. Calling him up this early isn't going to help with that. Jungmann and Lopez should be getting the first calls, and they are stretching out Jungmann so perhaps that's the plan for a month from now. But Milone shouldn't be one of them.
  18. I think Peppers would be a great pick; as much as teams use nickel packages, a hybrid SS/LB would help with run defense on passing downs/situations. That being said, I think he'll be long gone by the time the Packers pick. I hope Conley is still available, but I doubt it will happen. I also don't see them taking a flyer on Jones in the 2nd; that's something you take a risk on if you know you won't be competing this year or next. I could see them taking a risk on Moreau, as his injury isn't a serious leg injury. McCaffrey is interesting, but I see him and Montgomery as very similar players and unlikely to have both on the field at the same time. McCaffrey will be a weapon in the passing game, but I'm not sure that he's much of a running threat in the pros.
  19. Yah, but cigarretes are legal. Didn't say I liked those either, but I'll choose the smell of (most) cigarettes over the smell of weed. Sort of but not exactly correct. Alcohol is a depressant, not a stimulant, and w/r/t violence it suppresses the judgment and emotional control that suppresses violent tendencies. Those people, generally speaking, are violent to begin with; the "root cause" is whatever made their violent tendencies. Many people like myself have drank quite a bit of alcohol in their life without ever having a violent incident; we don't have violent tendencies to begin with. When I was a child my father yelled at me a lot less when he had a beer or two in his system (and as such I frequently asked him if I could get him a beer). In Northeast WI, domestic violence incidents surge on Sundays when the Packers lose. And that bugs me. It's just a damn game.
  20. No idea what "on" means, but I liked Harber the first time I saw him pitch back in the first week of April last year. It's in a link report somewhere. Does that make me on him? Pretty sure I was the only person - excluding those who built lists well beyond 50 - who had Harber on their top prospects list. Not in the top 25, but I had him in the low 30's. That's more of my definition.
  21. One big difference between alcohol and marijuana - there is no such thing as second-hand alcoholism. You can't get drunk or buzzed being near someone who is drinking. It's pretty hard to smell it unless you are right next to the person who is drinking. Children aren't going to have alcohol in their system because one of their parents is drinking (unless it is their mother while pregnant). I can't tell you how many times I've been walking down the street and smell it from a car that drove by, or gotten on a bus and smelled it, or smelled it from someone walking by. It is much more intrusive to people who aren't using it than alcohol, and there are lots of people who don't want to smell it, much less ingest it, because they are around someone else who is using it. And that bothers me. Let's stick to "what bothers you about it", and save the legalization debate for the Political forum where there is extensive discussion around it.
  22. I was one of if not the first one on Myers and the only one on Harber last year, and called Zack Brown in the draft (not in the correct round), so I'm still on those guys. Not sure that Feliciano qualifies as "under the radar" as a 2nd round pick. Not sure if Burkhalter will make it back this year but he was off to a Perrin-lite start until he got hurt. QTC (Quentin Torres-Costa) struck out 11.3/9 last year and could be a future LH reliever. And Mitch Ghelfi quietly had a really good season. Under the "back from the dead", it would be really nice to see Coulter's finish at AA be for real.
  23. This is why you protect a Miguel Diaz in the Rule 5 draft over a Yadiel Rivera - guys just as good or better than Rivera will be available for free.
