  1. I don't really think he is a relief pitcher. He's a starter, and if he fails again as a starter I think you look to move him. Sure he MIGHT turn it around for someone else, but how much longer do you wait on him here to see that happen? If we are gonna have another lefty in our pen other then Stetter, wouldn't you rather it be Braddock? Jorge de la Rosa says "hi".
  2. If Notre Dame agreed to join the Big Ten, it's all but certain the Irish would be looking at a payday far in excess of what they know in 2010, based upon the Big Ten's current business model of sharing TV revenues evenly. Notre Dame receives about $15 million a year in TV revenue compared with $22 million per school in the Big Ten. Well, that would be a pretty good reason to get over themselves. However... is that $15M/year just for football? What do they get from the Big East for basketball? The Big East doesn't have a network like the Big 10, but they get a lot of games on ESPN (the cornerstone of Big Monday, among other slots). The rivalries with the military institutions are nice, but I don't think they generate a lot of revenue. The do generate a lot of wins for ND though (not as many lately). They would continue the rivalries with Michigan, Purdue, and Michigan State, and add Ohio State. Now they will have four non-conference games (would that change with 12 or 16 teams?), so they can still pencil in USC, Army, Navy, and Stanford.
  3. How in the world did this get in the wrong thread? Man... should be in the drunk thread. My bad!
  4. That is against NCAA rules. You cannot give academic scholarships to athletes. My buddy, who was the #3 quarterback recruit in the nation in 1991, got a half-academic, half-athletic scholarship to Arizona State.
  5. I feel much, much better about UW's recruiting class now. We can't expect too much from two freshmen guards as the primary backups, but in case of injury they are in a much better place now. UW already has a verbal from a PG in IL for 2011. Same w/Marquette. Don't know how much the big man will be able to contribute this year, but hopefully by the end of the season he can give them quality minutes and a rebounding presence. Interesting situation there now... I was upset when they signed Newbill because they needed a big man, thought they should have held on to it. Maybe they know someone is leaving and/or won't make grades this semester. Maybe one of the freshmen can get financial aid or an academic scholarship for a year and not need an athletic scholarship. You never know, someone may get stupid and try stealing X-Boxes out of dorm rooms too.
  6. Suppan & Hawkins released, Braddock & Axford called up, two guys in Nashville's rotation moved to the pen. Problem solved!
  7. I won't be there tonight, might be there Thursday but won't be in section lah-dee-dah. The LA Badgers have a block of 150 seats by the Brewers bullpen and that's probably where I'll be... unless I get a killer deal on section lah-dee-dah on Stub Hub. We'll see. The jersey is actually a David Welch Helena Brewers Tropical Tuesday jersey from a few years ago. I found it ironic that my favorite Brewer (McClung) switched to that number. It has a floral/Hawaiian print to it that's tough to see on TV. When I was in Boston the fans there were literally stopping me and pulling their friends over to look at it.
  8. The one to my right? Close enough to know that she is a Brewers fan too, and her brunette friend next to her went to the game in San Diego on Friday like I did. Close enough to get several high-fives from them, including one from the smokin' hot blonde that was more of a hand grab from her and not a high five. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Dude next to her was in the way though - pretty sure he brought the blonde too. Man code - dudes don't wreck other dudes game. The one two rows behind me? Don't know. Big girl - my height with heels and thick legs too. Very well proportioned for a thicker girl though - no complaints from me! If he's a poster worth his salt, he'll check the IGT on his smart phone tonight. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If he had a smart phone that was worth salt he would have. Unfortunately his is the worst internet phone on the planet. Sorry I couldn't give you a heads-up about it - been a long day and I usually don't have internet access while I'm working. I texted Rev Series Finale but he was working late too. Got the same tix (actually a few seats closer to being centered behind home plate) from the same source (my buddy sitting next to me). The funny thing was my brother-in-law said on the telecast they replayed Braun's home run from last year and you could see me, same shirt, same place on the replay. Thought someone on the telecast might notice and come down to interview me. No dice. I literally just jumped in to ask if we could expect any celebrity sock pictures from section la dee da. No Larry King either. All the celebs were probably at the Laker playoff game. It's really flattering when you come home and 1/4th of the IGT is about you. You guys (and girls) are great!
  9. To answer the thread title, hopefully in the next 24 hours so I can see him here in San Diego.
  10. Agreed Polish06 - these "play-in games" should not be between conference tourney winners, they should be between at-large teams. The NCAA won't do that though because they would be telling who the last four (or eight) in are, and might open themselves up to legal challenges from schools who didn't make it. That, and the major conference teams bring more fans to the games and thus more money.
  11. Not a Scotch expert - just an amateur getting into it. Has anyone tried anything by Bruichladdich, particularly the 15-year 2nd Edition?
  12. Hiding an injury? Sounds good. Send him to the DL and bring up Axford. Heck, Chris Smith already has 8 saves for Nashville. He couldn't be as bad as Hoffman.
  13. Hammond wins executive of the year: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5132789
  14. Might I ask what your weapon of choice is for capturing these images?
  15. Yeah, I'd rather not be in the position to be able to draft a Braun, Fielder, or Weeks again any time soon. Besides, the Giants are showing that you can have a lot of very mediocre hitters on a major league team and still win if the pitching is there.
  16. Michael Fiers, picking up where David Welch left off. The new man-crush has begun!
  17. *cough* Vander Blue *cough* *whistles*
  18. For those of us who really don't like Duke, even though Butler just missed that half-court shot we can take solace in watching the guy from Duke guarding him get absolutely leveled on the screen just before he put up the half-court shot. Looked like the guy who set the screen (Hayward?) put a little extra into it too. Just completely decked him. Watch the replay. Puts a nice little silver lining on the ending. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. Hard to get news/info out here - what day/time is the game at?
  20. I'm with you FV - these kids are spoiled. I remember having to get up and manually change the channel on the TV. Can't believe I'm the first person to mention microwave. Anyone else remember making popcorn the old fashioned way over the stove? 10 years ago I would have said CDs - colossial improvement over audio cassettes and vinyl. But now with portable media players and satellite radio I'd say that CDs are almost extinct. I'd say satellite radio too, but that is as much of a function of radio stations turning into corporate garbage as it is technology - a topic for another thread. As for wireless internet, that just gives my employer an excuse for me to get more work done. Could almost do without it...
  21. What if I connect the red/white audio out on the cable box to a receiver or headphones?
  22. I'm considering getting a new monitor for my computer, and noticed that this monitor has a HDMI input. Does this mean that I could connect my cable box to it via an HDMI cable and watch TV on it? Or would the monitor have to have a tuner in it? It says you can watch movies, so would that mean you could connect a DVD player via HDMI cable? Thanks!
  23. Like everything, sports bows to the almighty dollar. It's about the Benjamins, as they say...
  24. Wow, better buy some skirts for these referees.
  25. If you travel or will predominantly be in a major metropolitan area look at Sprint. I've had them for over a decade. I think unlimited talk/text/data is $99.95/month; with Verizon it's $149/mo, similar for AT&T. Can get phones with internet (Blackberry, HTC, Samsung, etc.), but if you mean a wireless card you plug into your laptop (or use the phone as a modem) so you can get internet wherever you get a cell signal then an internet plan w/wireless card is another $40/month on top of that. Cheaper than Verizon and AT&T though. As for iPhones, everyone I know who has one says the same thing - love the features, but as far as phones they suck. Lots of dropped calls, poor signal, etc. If you don't travel and will solely be in a major metropolitan area then T-Mobile I think has the best deal. My buddy has it and he told me that unlimited talk/text/internet w/using the phone as a modem (Blackberry) is $99/month. Definitely check a map/reception though, as they are almost exclusively only in major metropolitan areas.
