  1. The only thing I have a gripe with is he's not walking much yet. That's like the one skill he's been consistently above average in though, so I'm sure it will come. What I really like is that he's hitting a ton of line drives and fly balls, and even going to RF with power. I don't think he had an opposite field homerun last year, and of course last night that's where he hit his. I think he'll have a low 800ish OPS this year, which I'd be happy with. I don't think he's gonna have a breakout season along the lines of Utley or Kinsler numbers though.
  2. Yep. There was a piece on the brewers main site about how big this game is for Rickie because of his grandfather's time in the Negro leagues.
  3. DiFelice was on the pregame with Provus talking about making his first opening day roster and he seemed like an awesome guy. With our pitching woes early this year, he's been a joy to watch (or listen) pitch.
  4. Haha. How the hell did I forget that? That might be the biggest oddity out of all of them.
  5. Bill Hall with a hit off a righty?!? Rickie Weeks with a hr to RC?!? If we lose this game I don't think will win another game this year.
  6. I honestly believe a lot of our hitters have been the victim of poor luck. Hart, Weeks, and Hardy seem to be squaring up the ball nearly every time they put it in play. And of course Fielder losing out on a homerun and 3 rbi's on Sunday.
  7. I'm guessing Weeks would be in the lineup if he hadn't got hit last night, but he's really struggled against Arroyo iirc so maybe Macha would have sat him regardless.
  8. I saw this on Will Leitch's blog and felt like bumping this thread after reading Vin Scully's great play-by-play in which he talks about Adenhart's death: "If I may speak for every member of the Dodger organization, our heartfelt and deepest sympathies to the mother and family of Nick Adenhart, and to every member in the Angels organization, for the untimely accident and death of young Nick last night at the tender age of twenty-two. Nick, from Maryland, had pitched six scoreless innings and was in a car with three friends, and a driver apparently went through a red light and T-boned the car, killing three of the four, including Nick, and one other member is in critical condition. And if there is one thing I've learned in all my years - and I haven't learned much - but the one thing I've learned: Don't even waste your time trying to figure out life. Ground ball through for Andre Ethier, and life continues for those who still have it. And with a leadoff single, Russell Martin will be coming up. But I would say, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take a moment and say a prayer in memory for Nick, especially for his parents. What a shock to lose a twenty-two-year-old. Andre Ethier at first base, Russell Martin the batter, James Loney on deck, and the Dodgers try to strike in the second inning against Kevin Correia." 9. FWIW, Weeks only has 1 walk (3 HBP), but it's not like he's chasing outside the zone. He's hitting the ball hard several times a game, and swinging at strikes. Looks like a different player at the plate and on D. I'm very encouraged by the starters on offense (except Kendall). We're scoring enough runs to win games off of top-flight SP, but it's just our pitching that has sucked. Nelson, McG, and Duffy have all looked really shaky when given the chance. It really wouldn't surprise me if all of those guys are replaced by the end of the season.
  10. Weeks takes one square in the jaw and stays in the game. What a guy.
  11. It was STL. It really was a crazy play. The ball was so freaking high, and it looked at first like it was a moonshot. But the whole time the ball was in the air, none of the announcers really said anything so you knew it was probably gonna be close.
  12. Gotta love Joe Morgan questioning why Fukudome took that 3-1 pitch. Is it really that hard to figure out why?
  13. What was really unbelievable about Soriano's AB was that all 7 pitches were balls.
  14. Wow, JJ just flat-out robbed by Fontenot on a one-hop liner.
  15. Ugh, he's really getting squeezed against Lee in this at-bat. Hitting the corners perfectly and they're called balls.
  16. Ball 4 to Soriano was close, but it was a ball. Ball 1 to Fukudome was in the zone.
  17. Yeah, no kidding. I can't believe he had a .355 OBP last year.
  18. The crowd seems rather subdued, and my god is booing Soup at a home opener just flat-out amateur.
  19. If Svuem has somehow got Weeks to go the other way on a consistent basis he's gonna be a monster offensively.
  20. These two guys are probably are streakiest hitters, especially JJ. I'd say we give it at least a week or two before Macha would pull the plug.
