  1. Fontenot isn't that bad. I remember his 2008 PECOTA being actually pretty good; about the same as DeRosa IIRC.
  2. No. I'm basing it off of his pro career so far. I've seen every Weeks at-bat outside ~5 AB's since he got called up. Getting behind in the count with RISP has been a problem. In 372 career Plate Appearances he's put up a .215 .329 .337 line with 74 strikeouts. It wouldn't kill him to attack the first pitch fastball in those situations every once in awhile.
  3. Agreed for the most part. When he's leading off the game I have no problem with him taking pitches early in the count. (I was shocked what he did to Lilly on the first pitch.) But when he's up with runners on, or RISP he consistently gets behind because he's taking the first pitch. A lot of the time that first pitch that goes by is a pitch he could do a lot with. I agree with the reactionary threads. I'm such a huge Weeks fan that I feel the need to post in all his threads, but its getting pretty nuts. I've been staying away from the IGT because of all the negativity. For the most part he's ran into somewhat bad luck at the plate. In the past week, he has 1200 feet worth of outs in 3 at bats. And at least the guy has other ways to get on when his hits aren't falling in. It's as if he never finished the year really strong with all the heat that's on him not only here, but with any Brewer fan. From my experiences, the casual fan doesn't appreciate or even hates Weeks.
  4. I was making soft boiled eggs in the microwave and the damn thing blew up.
  5. Indeed. It wouldn't kill me to see it stopped.
  6. I'd still like to lock up Prince. I don't notice his body looking any different. If we can get at least a year of FA in there it would be great. It would really give us more flexibility if we want to trade him a few years in, as more teams would be able to afford him. I wouldn't be looking to lock up Braun yet, so my opinion hasn't changed since his awful start. Another year or two, sure. But not now.
  7. It's a timing mechanism. And yes Weeks could stand to swing early in the count more. You can really see where his at-bat is gonna go with the first pitch of his at-bat. I said this in Spring Training and no one said anything. He's a patient hitter. He's been one in college, the minors, and now in the big leagues. He's not "trying to show patience". But he needs to start to become a patient-aggressive hitter, which scouts talk about. The book is out that Weeks takes the first pitch. He needs to adjust. When he's sitting dead red he's very good. Guys that walk a ton like Pujols and Manny have started swinging on the first pitch and 1-0. Every hitter, no matter how bad or good has to make adjustments after being in the big leagues for awhile.
  8. This really bugs me. I know you don't think he was TLB, but people who say this kind of stuff are fools. Why would a player want to cost himself future earnings by sitting out and being tagged as injury prone? It's just like the idiot "diehard" Cub fans who thought Mark Prior was being a wimp. Fans always know best though. I mean, he only turned out to have one of the most damaged pitching arms of his generation.
  9. They can't complain too much. Ramirez and Soriano both do the same thing and take their time around the bases. At least when Braun stops staring he somewhat hustles arond. I'm sure just about every team has a player that admires his work. I really can't think of anyone that does 'the hop' right before catching a fly.
  10. This improves the chances that Bush is injured, like someone mentioned. We'll see if his velocity improves tonight. And yes, I'd rather have Weaver as a long man. He has at least shown at one point in his career that he can get major league hitters out.
  11. I'm thinking we can chalk up todays win as one of those decisive 42 games. They had the edge in starting pitching, they were at home, we had 20 LOB, and innings 1 thru 8 our pitchers looked pretty bad.
  12. 1. I was fine with Suppan staying in until he did. Sure, he looked horrible. But your starter can't go just 2 2/3 innings when your long man is Seth McClung. Putting in McClung is pretty much conceding a game in my eyes. 2. I was fine with Torres and Shouse staying in. With Beltran in the middle of that lineup, Yost has pretty much no choice but to leave in Shouse to get the lefties that bat right behind Beltran. Mota today was a textbook example of not having it. Delgado did him a favor by swinging at ball 3 and the double play was the absolute best thing that could have happened. After that double play, two batters reached and that's when I definitely pull him. Riske is our relief ace that Doug signed for Ned. At this point, we really needed to win this game. It was one of those crucial 42 games that we would have been kicking ourselves in September for losing. I think we can all agree on this being a huge win for the Crew. On the road with struggling hitters with a clear pitching matchup disadvantage.
  13. Yes but Yost still has to do his. Neither did in that 8th inning today.
  14. Funny. I'm sure you'd be someone who would be cussin' about Yost for blowing the game if it weren't for Mota getting lucky as hell in that inning. Defend him the next time he does the same thing and it doesn't work.
  15. That's pretty cool. I always thought you were a Star Wars fan and it was a lightsaber.
  16. I think so. It wasn't like his first 2 starts, that's for sure.
  17. Yeah, good stuff. I was reading in a magazine last year and a scout basically said "pitchers have their great stuff for 10 starts, bad stuff for 10 starts, and their average stuff for 10 starts. It's how you pitch with your average stuff to show what kind of pitcher you are and they turn out to be your most important starts." Pretty similar to Pedro's thread of a 42 game season way of thought.
  18. Against weaker RHP it wouldn't be bad to see him get some starts. Looking at the guy you'd think he's some meathead idiot but after watching the interview with Trenni; the guy is really articulate. He was a HUGE fan favorite in Boston and he's just an awesome clubhouse guy. When they signed him I thought it was Melvin doing one of his guys a favor. It may have started because of that but now I hope he's on the team all year.
  19. Who's to say he can't hit 30 in a year. His big league career so far has been all partial seasons.
  20. In the minors he was pretty horrible from what I've heard/read.
  21. Month 1 Month 2 Player A: .345/.524 .355/.605 Player B: .500/.519 .409/.571 Of course Hardy is A and Weeks is B. Why isn't there a similar thread about Hardy starting out slow and being a bust? I will point out that Hardy did have more plate appearances in the span. I think about 37 when you factor in walks and HBP.
  22. Shouse is so money and he doesn't even know it!!
  23. You betcha. He looked more like the 2007 Sheets but anyone takes this performance anyday of the week.
  24. I guess his hands were kind of tied since Beltran is a switch hitter.
  25. He should be gone. Beltran's getting on here.
