  1. Dan Kolb didn't strike anyone out though. So I don't think that's a good comparison. I highly doubt Soria regresses like Turnbow did, or even anything remotely close to what happened to Turnbow. Soria K's more batters, BB's less, and lets up less HR's. All the while playing in a superior league. I wouldn't trade an elite bat for a closer (which LaPorta probably will become). But I would trade, say JJ Hardy or Escobar, their choice, for him. I don't know if they have any good SS prospects coming up, but they need one. Tony Pena is sporting a .193 OBP right now.
  2. I'll be there cause my friend has a bunch of free tix. But that lineup is brutal.
  3. You wouldn't hear the end of the 'magicial 100 year quest for a championship" on ESPN, and every major media outlet. I don't want that to happen in my lifetime, so my vote goes to that.
  4. I'm really starting to believe that Melvin would rather go down with Yost than just fire him. He's been an above average GM, but I definitely wouldn't lose sleep if we fired him. I have confidence that Mark A would hire another good one. If Mark A does pull the trigger on both, I'd really like to see Paul DePodesta hired. He set up the Dodgers with a ton of young talent and his defining trade was a huge success ( The Brad Penny trade).
  5. Supposedly he punched a clubhouse tv after he got shelled again.
  6. You make it seem like he's been hitting like Adam Everett for the last full four years. He has about 2+ seasons worth of at-bats, in which roughly half occured during poor health.
  7. For some reason, it seems like hitting has been up this year. Guys like Chipper Jones, Lance Berkman, Kevin Youkilis, and Hanley Ramirez are putting up very big numbers. I saw Xavier Nady's stats a couple of days ago and was completely floored.
  8. I'm not ready to. He hasn't hit .190 at any level. Why should he all of a sudden start now at age 25? Seeing all of his at-bats this year, I've got all the proof I need to know he shouldn't be hitting .190. Like I said, not .290 but not .190 either. On a side note, look how fast this thread is filling up. Is there a Brewer that leaves more Brewer fans opinionated? I know you want Crabbe to get called up and start and I can someway respect that. You have every right to be dissapointed in Rickie. As a Weeks fan first, Brewers second, I think it may be a good thing for him to be moved to a different team.
  9. I really don't think he needs to replace Bill Hall (maybe against a tough righty), but rather TGJ. When he plays and he slumps, sit him on the bench. We don't need to send him down. Gwynn has no use on this team compared to Branyan.
  10. Because that's 10 more homers Gwynn will hit off the bench and he's gonna make less outs doing it.
  11. I'd be open to it, but as long as Yost is manager, I don't think it's gonna happen. His BB:K rate is pretty solid, but eventually you need to see some hits. He pops up too much, but hey, so does Braun, and last time I checked he's pretty good. I saw something startling on ESPN's gameday in which he was like 2-31 on the season after the count 2-1. There's just no reason for that. Gotta punish the pitcher when he gets behind. I know it's a result oriented business, but I still don't understand why people aren't buying Yost's claim of which he's had pretty poor luck this year. He hasn't been great, or even good. But he should easily be sitting right along with Hardy at about a .240 - .250 average. I liked what I saw from him this weekend (Caught stealing aside). He swung at the first pitch fastball a couple times (which will eventually raise his average) and took some very tough pitches. While he only had 3 hits, he probably of should have wound up with 6.
  12. I'll echo everyone's statements as well. Branyan not being up here was an absolute joke. (Not as much as Gwynn DH'ing.) Like you said Trwi, the list goes on and on down the minors for who could outhit TGJ. I noticed today that Gwynn still has just that one RBI from opening day. Very pathetic. Gwynn aint 560 OPS bad; no one is. But he's a mid 650ish OPSer who wouldn't be in the bigs right now if not for his last name. It is frightening that just a little over a week ago, someone on this board said we should not only start him, but bat him leadoff. Let's end it and call up Branyan tomorrow.
  13. I saw the ESPN piece about Darvish in which Valentine had a few quotes. My impression was he's not coming back. At least anytime soon. Seems very passionate about his job there and resentful of how MLB is drying up the talent pool in Asia. I'd be shocked if he could be lured to coach the Brewers.
  14. Jeff Cirillo. I'm only half serious of course, but from watching the post game it's clear the guy gets it. His comment about Defilice was spot on today, just like he has been with his analysis all year. He's gonna make a terrific manager some day.
  15. So was the camera work behind the pitcher that is displayed right before the pitch. Shaking from like the 5th inning on. Someone could have gotten motion sickness watching that crap.
  16. Man. I thought that it was hit much harder right off the bat.
  17. Suppan is simply overmatched against a powerhouse like this.
  18. That would really suck for the Brewer fans that only took the weekend off to go out there, which I'm sure is most of them. Hopefully they get all 3 in sometime this weekend.
  19. Yes, Webb is nasty now that he's not strictly a sinker pitcher. The pitcher I hate facing the most would have to be Peavey. He just has so much movement on his pitches that it makes it unfair. Hopefully we don't have to face him this year. He flat-out pwned the Crew last May.
  20. Understand where you're coming from SZBrewerfan. The Cubs could be performing poor right now and it's not gonna make the Brewers better. For me, the Cubs start is just adding 'salt to the wound'.
  21. I agree Pitchleague. He's pretty good compared to what's out there. It's still funny to see that everyone has his "lines" memorized. When you're a die-hard fan, you rarely miss a game. So that means you're spending ~150 nights a year with BA and BS. Of course they're gonna come off as annoying when they're having a one-way conversation with you for 3 hrs a nite for half a year.
  22. I'm relieved my plans for the Boston trip fell thru right before we pulled the trigger on ordering them before the season started. Would have been a somber ride out east for sure.
