  1. Prince's numbers definitely justify him being on the all-start team. He is only behind Pujols and Gonzalez in OPS. Prince's numbers are actually better than Ryan Howard's right now, but that will be a close pick. Braun needs to go on a hot streak and then he will work is way back into a deserved starter. He is 7th in OPS behind Ibanez, Hawpe (what really under the radar season he is having), Beltran, Upton, Pence and Dunn. He definitely should be on the team and the massive amount of votes Brewer fans put out there should give him a chance to start.
  2. 5 of Mat's 11 hits have gone for extra-bases. With 4 doubles the people who said he a doubles stroke look spot on.
  3. That is not what a loogy is supposed to do. He gets the righty out but gives up a home run and a double to the lefties.
  4. I did not either but at least one site I looked at had him listed as a rookie. However I just read this and you are right he is not a rookie. I will edit my initial post
  5. I know this is early but I was wondering who were some of the NL ROY the year candidates? No rookie seems to be lighting the world on fire right now. Obviously, there is a lot of ball left to be played, but who are the leading candidates right now? Some of the rookies up right now that I can think of are Rasmus - playing time will be a problem for him with the way LaRussa uses OF's Gamel - has not been up long but his numbers are not far off anyone else's Kawakami - really is not having that good of year Tommy Hansen - just got called up should be interesting to see Dexter Fowler - numbers are slipping Ryan Hanigan - he is getting regular playing time with Votto out and doing well Jordan Zimmerman - Will get regualr starts do to how bad the Nationals rotation is I have to be missing some people who are off to good starts or have potential to jump into the mix. edit - removed Sandoval from the list
  6. Your condescension toward anyone who disagrees with you is not helping you prove your point. We get that you like Katin and he very well could be a good option out in right field. What other people are trying to point is that although he has great power numbers his lack of plate discipline could be a big reason why he is not called up yet. No one is denying he has very good power and that he has an extremely hot bat right now. You like and want him up right now and others think he would struggle with MLB pitching.
  7. I am all for giving Heether a shot but DeRosa is a proven player who even though he had a rough April would bring a lot to this team. His May was what this team would need from any of the spots he can play. An OPS around .800 and an OBP around .360. That would be nice. I would love for Heether to get a chance and prove that we do not need DeRosa but I have always like DeRosa so adding him to the team would be great in my mind.
  8. Not saying it is not overpaying but Cain is definitely their number two. Lincecum is the one and Cain is the two. He currently 1st in wins in the NL and second in ERA. Although his peripherals do not seem to match up with his great success right now, he is still a very good pitcher. However, if what they were asking during the off-season remains the same we would definitely have to overpay to get him. Back to the original players in question I would love to get Mark DeRosa. Where are we weak right now? 3B, 2B, and RF and DeRosa can play all those positions.
  9. I agree with you completely. Choosing between Letterman (just plain lame to me), Leno (jokes are so predictable, only part I liked was headlines) and Two and Half Men (why is this show popular?) is what drives to me watch episodes of TV shows on DVD late at night. Conan has always been original if nothing else.
  10. BA is less valuable than OBP and Ramirez is 30 points higher there. I do not understand why AB's would matter. Like logan said those at bats are pretty much made up for in the walks. I do not think you can really make an argument for Tejada unless you overall value BA and undervalue OBP and OPS.
  11. Smith deserved a call-up but this is not how I wanted to see it happen. Hopefully he can pitch quality innings. The bullpen has been saved a little the last two nights by stellar long relief outings.
  12. Why Tejada over Ramirez? Ramirez's OPS is .50 higher leads in home runs and steals and has less errors. Tejada has more RBI's but I still do not see it. The rest of the list looks good to me. I see Braun on the list once he goes on a little home run binge to jump that OPS a bit.
  13. Nice day for starting pitching so far. Chase Wright and the rest of the Nashville pitchers shut out Iowa. Wright had a great game although only one K. Trey Watten goes six for Wisconsin striking out 8 only allowing 4 runners, two hits two walks, and no runs.
  14. Don't read anything into Peavy leaving early. MLB said he had the flu
  15. Just figured I would update what some recently traded Brewers are doing Will Inman - Recently promoted to AAA. AAA stats have not been as pretty as AA but he only has 3 starts. 15 IP, 12 ER, 23 H, 6BB, and 16 K. Michael Brantley - BA .249, OBP .332, OPS at just .676. He has stolen 15 bases in 17 chances. Matt LaPorta - Recently got sent back to the minors after hitting under .200. He has very nice AAA numbers with an OPS of .994 Darren Ford - Still in High A ball batting .226 with an OBP of .358 and an OPS of .680. He has only stolen 7 bases in 13 chances. Steve Hammond - In AAA 4.91 ERA and WHIP around 1.45 or so. Inman had put together a great AA season so we will see if he gets it going in AAA. He struck out 9 Sounds when they played which was a bright spot. The WHIP around 2 is rough but again small sample size. Brantley continues to lack power but at 22 he is still young for AAA. His base-running ability continues to impress going up levels. LaPorta will benefit from more consistent playing time in the minors. His callup was probably a year early. Ford and Hammond are both struggling this year with Ford being one of those guys I used to follow a lot who could not put it together.

  17. He needs to learn how to walk in order to play at the big league level. He has a .320 OBP which is bad and has walked just 8 times to 50 K's. He is striking out close to once every 3.5 PA's in AAA how will that translate into the majors? I love his power but he needs to show some patience at the plate to warrant a call up.
  18. I actually thought Butler was the opposite of those guys. Narron, Wahpepah, ect are guys that seem to pitch above their ability and have a limited ceiling. Butler has never seemed to live up expectations or pitch as well as his stuff indicates he should until this season. His K numbers are still lower than one would like but he is light years ahead of last year right now.
  19. Gamel has started 6 of the last 7 games before tonight. I understand wanting him to start but do not act like he has just been sitting on the bench most nights lately. Even if you take out the 3 starts against Min when he could DH Game started 3 of the last 4 he could so he is actually getting more time than Hall.
  20. My buddy and I went to the Wednesday game and sat in the field outfield box. Thanks so much for working on this ticket deal. They were the best tickets I ever had at a game/
  21. Trading Hardy right now would hurt our lineup much more than Buchholz would help our rotation. Getting Buchholz in the off-season might make sense but right now Escobar has not shown he is ready to hit the way Hardy is capable. Hardy the last month has an OPS of .990.
  22. It seems to be well documented that when team starters struggle to go deep into games the bullpen suffers later in the year. Right now they are okay because we have been getting quality starts, but Soup, Looper and Parra have not gone deep into games numerous times this year and that would wear down the bullpen. Peavy is averaging a full inning better per outing than Soup, Looper and Parra, and that will hurt the bullpen later in the year. Right now we have three guys averaging 5.1 to 5.2 innings per start and two averaging in the 6 plus inning range. You throw in Peavy and give us three guys going deep into games it would seem our bullpen would be better in September than if it stays as is.
  23. But the more you use those relievers the less effective they will be down the stretch. It is great they are pitching well now but Parra's tendency to not get past 6 innings, along with Suppan and Looper who do not seem to go deep into games will wear this bullpen down. A guy like Peavy can pitch a lot of innings and keep the bullpen fresh.
  24. Since it is assumed the option has to be picked up would the Brewers be able to simply renegotiate the deal so the money would be the same overall but similar year to year. I am sure Peavy does not care when he gets the money. I do not know what Peavy used to throw since you said his fastball is slowing but he is usually still throwing 93 late in games according to Gameday. His stuff must be pretty good right now as he leads the league or at least is close to it in strike outs. As for injuries he missed some time last year but he has never pitched less than 27 games as a starter in a season. I feel like people expect him to get seriously hurt because he never has been hurt before. He is only 28 years old so he has years left in him. It seems to me that people are under-selling Peavy here big time as another poster mentioned. His stuff is still good. His contract is not actually that bad. We have a lot of money coming off the books after next season, when we lose Suppan, Hall and in all reality probably Prince as well. The other issue about him being better at home than on the road is kind of a non-issue to me because most struggle more on the road than at home. Yo's ERA is 2.6 at home and 4 on the road for his career, so should another team worry about trading for him because his ERA and peripherals are worse on the road?
