  1. How is looking at splits foolish? Katin is most successful against LHP but he would not play against LHP pitching because Hart would always be in the lineup. Now I would not mind getting a look at katin to see if he could be the potential replacement for Hart, but he just would not get enough playing time warrant a call-up. He would be better of staying in AAA and learning how to be more selective at the plate because if he can do that he will be a very very good prospect.
  2. If we can trade for a guy like Cliff Lee this team is better than last years playoff team. The lineup is essentially the same with Braun and Fielder both hitting better this year. Lee and Gallardo would be better than a CC and a hurt Ben Sheets. And the bullpen is much better this year.
  3. Has Melvin ever sold during the season? Even when he traded Carlos Lee it was not a real sell. He traded for a new closer and a starting OF'er (although Mench was bad). With this division being very winnable there is no way I see us selling. Cameron and Hoffman are the only players that would make sense if we did decide to sell because I think JJ's value will be higher in the off-season.
  4. Katin bats right-handed. It makes little sense for Hart's backup to be a right handed hitter. Katin's line against RHP translates even worse to the big leagues since his OBP is .291 and his OPS is .812. I do not know what the MLE's would be there but it cannot be pretty.
  5. One guy who could be in play is Josh Butler. I think he could make a spot start like Carlos V was a few years back. After Cody he is one of the more interesting options to me. He has been all the way up to AAA this year and is currently at AA. Between those two levels in 4 starts he has went 21 innings striking out 21 and walking just 2. He obviously is not going that deep into games but he could be a spot start guy. He is not an answer to our lack of an impact arm outside of Yo. Cody is my first choice, but Butler is ahead of Dillard for me because Dillard walks too many guys.

  7. That must have been real bad considering the competition.I should rephrase my statement. Her performance, which I saw on American Idol, was the worst live performance I have ever seen. Although it was definitely worse than anything I have seen on American idol not counting William Hung
  8. I wanted to bring up Katy Perry back up because I saw her do one of the worst live performances I have ever seen on American Idol. I will give her that her songs can be catchy but her performance was so bad i can guarantee the judges were sitting there thinking, "the three finalists we have right now are so much better than this girl." As for worst song ever I simply pick almost anything by Nickleback outside "this is how you remind" or maybe "photograph"
  9. This is one of those times a player demanding too much money and not wanting to come to a city helped the small market team out. The Twins would have gladly chose Prior though if he did not demand a major league contract and would not have warned them that he did not want to play for them. As for Mauer his swing seems so pure he definitely has a shot to flirt with .400 this year. They asked Buster Olney about it last night and he said the biggest hindrance for Mauer will be how his body holds up to catching a full year. His batting average is almost 40 points higher the first of the season compared to the second throughout his career. Having Morneau behind helps so much as well because teams simply cannot walk him. He has such a good eye I would guess he is in the .390 range at the end of the year.
  10. It is funny to me that Dhanani said he did not think he would go that early. He went in the 43rd round. Unless I am reading it wrong and he meant he did not think he would go early, but was not saying the 43rd round was early.
  11. Linebrink gives up a 3 run HR to Lee and solo shot to Soto now things are all tied up.
  12. The Cubs offense is anemic right now. Their OPS in June .627 only better than the San Diego and Cincy, actually behind Washington and San Fran. The Brewers in June have an OPS of .759, but I am sure the last three games helped that. On the other hand their pitching has been amazing in June. A 2.22 ERA which is 0.82 better than the next team Cincy. It is 3.17 better than the Brewers. Both the Cubs and Brewers are two games under .500 in June.
  13. Jayson Stark's new article talks about trade rumors and there is a segment on the Brewers. Here is the part about the Brewers. "• What's Brewing: Clubs that have spoken to the Brewers report they've been adamant in saying they won't talk about Mat Gamel or shortstop prospect Alcides Escobar, even for front-line pitching. And after that, said an official of one club they spoke with, "there's a pretty sizable falloff" to their next wave of potentially available prospects (Lorenzo Cain, Taylor Green, Caleb Gindl). That's one reason Hardy's name has started to show up on the rumor circuit. But with so little starting pitching worth pursuing, Milwaukee is another club that might not find the kind of pitching it's hunting for." Sure sounds like the Brewers will not be making a big trade. Cain, Green and Gindl are not guys who would bring a front-line pitcher back unless it is a really large package of prospects that would include Jeffress, Braddock or Anundsen. If it is true Gamel and Escobar are not available and that Hardy is likely staying put for the season I do not see a big trade happening. Green and Cain are coming off injuries or are injured. Salome and Jeffress are struggling. Lucroy is just starting to play well.
  14. Has any player upped his stock more this year than Butler? I hated dealing Gross last year because I liked him as a player, but I am liking the deal more each start from Butler this year
  15. Lucroy's BABip is probably just evening out. It was somewhere in the .220 or .230's not long back. It is nice to see his BA up to .271 and an OBP .90 points higher. I would like to see his slugging percentage higher obviously but it is nice to see him doing well again.
  16. The above article makes it seem like Peavy is likely out 3 months but Jon Heyman in an article today says it is likely that he misses a month or two with a remote possibility of missing the season.
  17. I don't think there is a doubt Kendall is a better catcher than Rivera (although Rivera should not be blamed for Bush's inability to control any pitches last night). There also is no doubt Rivera has more power than Kendall, but Kendall has a much better eye at the plate. Rivera is a little bit of a plus at offense but Kendall is a big plus on defense. So to me Kendall should not lose time right now, especially when he is get some bloops to drop.
  18. Harden ended up pitching a very nice game. 6 IP, 9 K's, 5 H, 2 BB, and 2 ER. The problem. The Cubs offense has been awful through 7 innings.
  19. Eric Young was on espn defending Milton Bradley and his three reasons to not blame Milton for his bad start. 1 - No protection in the lineup - I am sorry even when Ramirez was there he was terrible 2 - Just got a big contract and is pressing - Milton does not look like he is trying too hard. His effort is actually in question by Cubs fans 3 - All the day games at Wrigley mess him up - Considering he has on OPS .893 at home and one of .586 (in almost 100 PA) on the road I do not think that holds water. His line for day games is actually better than night Mr Young. ESPN continues its great coverage.
  20. Cincy, St. Louis, and Chicago all lost already. It would be great to go up one more game on all of them Edit - Pit lost as well and Houston is down 2 early.
  21. Since his rough Minnesota series Stetter has been simply amazing. 8 IP, 2 H, 3 BB, and 13 K's and 0 ER
  22. Nice last 15 minutes. We take the lead. The Indians get their two runs back vs the Cards and lead 7-3, and KC is up 4-1 on Cincy
  23. How about a hard hit by JJ that actually does not get caught here?
  24. Soupan leads our team in hits tonight. He is giving everything we need. He has pitched well enough to keep the bullpen fresh and he has two great at bats
