  1. Wasn't that Stetter who came in to clean up DiFelice's little mess?
  2. So, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Andy Pettite, Manny Ramirez, A-Rod and many others who used illegal (or at least banned drugs) which could have cost them millions if caught are all mentally weak. Many other athletes have been caught with pot and I dont think I would call them mentally weak, maybe not the brightest people out there but a lot of players are not super smart. I am not condoning pot use in any way but is Michael Phelps mentally weak because he made a mistake like that? Jeffress has serious control problems right now but it is early and AA is usually the rough level for young pitching.
  3. Liriano has done nothing to show me he can still be a top-end starter after his injury. Espn had a great article a few weeks ago on his reliance on his fastball now and on the how hard he is getting hit. He is K/9 is down, his BAA is up, his WHIP is up, and he is giving up a home run a game. I would not give up too much for him right now.
  4. I agree. I don't understand why Smith or Swindle are not on the big league team over Julio. Both are pitching extremely well and both offer something Julio does not. Swindle can be another Lefty especially with Stetter looking serviceable against righties too. Smith is pitching great, can go a couple innings, and he does not walk people. Why one earth is Julio on the big league team?
  5. I agree with this completely. We are no longer a team that can let "marginal prospects" sit in the majors for extended periods of time if they are not producing. 5-10 years ago we could have but not now.
  6. I am sure I am wrong on this but it seems like Braun and Fielder are ever hot at the same time. Braun was hot for a couple weeks and Fielder was struggling now Fielder is hot and Braun is struggling a little. I cannot think of an extended period where both were hot
  7. I watched the Cubs a couple times recently and Soriano is a butcher in the field. Yes he has a nice arm but the routes he takes to balls are awful. Braun does not always take great routes that is for sure but he looks better out there than Soriano does.
  8. I do not understand this at all. Brad Nelson was given a shot. No hits in 21 at-bats and honestly he was not making good or hard outs. He was not swinging the bat well and a good team shooting for the playoff cannot have a bench guy who can't hit right now. Also calling him a power hitter seems a bit of a reach. He never eclisped 20 home runs in a season in the minors and only had an OPS above .850 twice. I do not seem him as a power hitter really. He is 26 years old and did not prove in his at-bats that he was swinging the bat well enough. Why flat out cut him when there is a chance you could keep him by DFA him? Two me the Brewers had to do this, I just do not know if Gamel was the right guy to bring up right now.
  9. Macha was quoted in the journal as saying he did not get brought up to sit the bench. So, I am guessing he will do more than simply pinch hit. There will be a start or two in there.
  10. The Berkman update was a little off as he started last night for Houston. Wtihout Ramirez the Cubs infield is average or worse. Fontenot, Theriot, Miles and Lee don't really strike fear into anyone I don't think. No one has an OPS over .779 (Theriot's), Fontenot is low .700, Lee is low .600 and Miles is in the .500's. Freel could provide nice depth, but with Soto struggling as well, Soriano and Fukudome are carrying this team.
  11. Chase Wright pitched a nice game today. If he could just keep from the blow-up starts he could provide at least an average option as a 6/7 starter. His K numbers seem to say he has a limited ceiling, but I am just hoping he can provide depth. The guy he was traded for, Eric Fryer, is struggling this year. He his hitting just .234 and an OPS of .637. No winners in that trade so far. The Nashville lineup as a whole had a really nice day. It has been noted by many but with the struggles of our bench it would seem like the Hurricane would get a call soon.
  12. Right now this whole bullpen is fun to watch. Hoffman makes it look easy. You do not worry about him walking a bunch of guys. DiFelice has been terrific. Stetter has done a good job with lefties and can stay in for a righty here and there. Villy is turning the corner in his last 5 outings. Coffey is great as long as he does not have to face a lefty. McClung is solid expect for the walks. Only Julio is a weak spot. That guy should never get in the game. I would rather have Chris Smith up or at least Swindle.
  13. 10 pitches for Carlos, 10 pitches for DiFelice, and 12 pitches for Hoffman. That is a great finish to a game for a bullpen. On top of that after the first two innings Parra gave up one hit and walked one guy. Great game for the Crew all around.
  14. I am starting to think we actually have a pretty strong bullpen. I think Carlos has turned the corner. Coffey is good unless he has to face a lefty. DiFelice has been great. Stetter is good and can face more than just lefties. Then you have Hoffman who has been very solid.
  15. Nice recovery by Parra tonight. After the first two innings he was great. 8 K's, 6 H, 2 BB. 5 of the hits and one of the walks were in the first two innings.
  16. Counsell, absolutely - he's the man in bases-loaded situations. Although Kendall did do exactly what Counsell would have (hack at the first pitch). It's just unlucky.Kendall had a great at bat, hit it hard but it went the 3B. Counsell can lead off this inning now What was that Bill? That is why Hall is so frustrating. He messes up on routine plays like that.
  17. Well it will probably be Counsell, Weeks, Hart and then Braun. Get through this inning with no runs then we just need to get one on and Braun will have a chance to tie the game.
  18. Who do we have to pinch hit that is swinging a better bat than Kendall? Counsell? But lately Kendall has been a lot better than early in the year
  19. Horrible at bat by Prince there. He looked like he was facing a lefty specialist. All he needed was a ground ball to the right side. Lets go here Hardy. Nothing on the ground. I fear a double play ball here.
  20. Well Marmol will only get one inning today with him coming up 2nd next inning. So even if he does find it today we will get Gregg and I like our chances off him. Lets get at least one here though.
  21. Bill Hall needs to quit staring at his hits that are not even close to being home runs.
  22. I bet Brenly would not be complaining about Braun's "antics" if he got the job in Milwaukee. He would probably be talking about how passionate he is about the game instead.
  23. The Cubs announcers both television and radio are just awful. I have had many favorites from today already. With Soriano up Brenly says that he does not think Suppan has a pitch to get Soriano out and that Soriano can only get himself out. The best part is Soup than throws a good inside pitch that jams Soriano into a pop out but he makes no statement about that at all. At least you are wrong.
  24. They did show him going back to the base before the hit because he was unable to read Marshall's pick off move, but I still felt like with how long that ball was in the air and the awful route Soriano took to it in the air should have given him a chance to score. Nice turn on a slow groundball there. Soup had a very nice quick inning there.
  25. Braun should have been able to score on one off the wall there. On a positive note with how many pitches Marshall has thrown here, we should get to see that terrible bullpen of the Cubs.
