  1. do you know that for a fact? Exactly. We have NO idea what went down. We have NO idea what would have been offered for Greinke. We have NO idea if Melvin asked for Teheran. And we have NO idea if Atlanta was even interested in Greinke.
  2. You realize that just because something is rumored doesnt mean it is true right? Also why would Melvin be quick to make a trade before checking to see if another team will offer something more?
  3. The defensive rankings for Lawrie have been shown to be shift inflated. ESPN ran a piece on this week linked in another thread. The truth is like Harper, Lawrie's bat has really cooled down. Yes Lawrie is young for his league but last year was the only year he posted an OPS above .802 at any level. And he is now only a year younger than Braun when Braun started in the bigs. Simply put even though he was older Braun showed way more power at every level. I think Lawrie will be a very good player but I dont think it is a stretch to say he has been a disappointment this year and is making last year look like a little bit of a fluke. He never was a power hitter until last year and then all the sudden he isnt a power hitter again. A lot of players have been anointed the next great player and not quite materialized. I said before I think Lawrie ends up hitting more like Corey Hart than Ryan Braun, which is still really good, but not amazing. Back to Zack. He needs to pitch another game to show he is healthy. I am sure the Brewers have a deadline to hear his decision on the contract extension.
  4. Hindsight is 20/20. We may have had a better team starting this year and continuing for several years if we had gone the other route. When the trades were made the playoffs were not a sure ting. How would have this years team been that much better? What starting pitcher were we going to overpay for? ARam has been better than Lawrie. Escobar would have been an upgrade to what we currently have at SS but Gonzalez was doing some really nice things before he went down. Odorizzi would not help this year. I guess I would just have to hear what SP we would have gotten.
  5. Remember when the Yankees were going to trade us Melky for the final year of Cameron, and Melvin hung up the phone because Cashman wanted the Brewers to pick up some salary? We all laughed at the time. Yep. Melky didnt really looking a starting caliber OF until last year and even that seemed like a fluke. I remember thinking the Royals made a good trade
  6. wow does that Sanchez for Melky trade look bad
  7. I am usually wrong on this stuff but it looks like Houston got the better end of that deal. Like trwi said I am not sure Happ will be even decent in the AL East
  8. I looks like both drafts could produce some impressive talent. With all our forwards Leuer didnt fit but to draft Harris, Henson, Lamb, and Leuer is pretty solid. Doesnt make up for picks like Yi, Alexander and others but it is a good start.
  9. I agree completely with this post. I remember being at a sports bar giving high fives to everyone when the Brewers beat the Cubs. I remember watching the Brewers take out Arizona and calling my dad right after the game. Those were great memories. At the same time watching guys you trade succeed hurts a little. However, as of right now Escobar is the only one who would make our current team better. Lawrie probably will but he has not been that good this year, but he is cheap and would be more valuable than ARam for that reason. Odorizzi is the one that scares me because impact pitchers are hard to find. He is getting hit a little in AAA (good ERA but others stats not as impressive) but it is a really small sample. However, I dont think Cards fans are missing Rasmus (who has been better with Toronto this year than Lawrie) considering what they won and we were not far from that. You have to make some moves. The bigger issue has been that we didnt draft well enough to have replacements prospects.
  10. So what did that do to his WAR? Where does he sit now compared to other 3B?
  11. I saw this article and remembered this thread from a while back. I dont have Insider but the preview said the reason for Lawrie's WAR is shifts. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/story?id=8179711&_slug_=the-toronto-blue-jays-progressive-approaches-defensive-shift-mlb&action=login&appRedirect=http%3a%2f%2finsider.espn.go.com%2fmlb%2fstory%3fid%3d8179711%26_slug_%3dthe-toronto-blue-jays-progressive-approaches-defensive-shift-mlb
  12. The question with the Rangers is how much does their past two seasons of falling just short sway them to make a big splash. Can a team that close sit back and not make a big move? They are a smart organization but they have a enough talent to not mortgage their future while still trading really good prospects
  13. Biggest disappointment (pitching) of the year outside of the injured guys? I would say it is easily Bradley. Most on this board really liked him compared to Jungmann but Bradley has been brutal lately
  14. Completely agree. Get Hamels off the market and Zach will easily be the best pitcher out there. Then start a bidding war
  15. Nothing too appealing there unless Richards profiles a lot better than he has pitched so far
  16. 16 HR's 240 IP. Not sure if that is a lot but nothing like what it has been in the majors
  17. If we move ARam i like it at the right price. It doesnt cost us any young guys in a trade and will force us to try some of our young pitchers. If we can move Greinke and Ramirez and get some young pitching back we wont be contenders right away next year but we will surprise some teams. If Greinke could net us a guy who could slide into the rotation next year we would have Gallardo, Fiers, Estrada, New guy, Thornburg, with guys like Peralta and Rogers and Narveson coming back. Not amazing at all but is it really that much worse than what Pittsburgh is throwing out there. With Marcum, Wolf, Greinke, ARam, Alex Gonzalez and KRod off the books we could easily bring in Hamilton, a decent SS and some bullpen help. Our OF would consist of Braun, Hamilton and Aoki which is very good. In the IF we have Hart, Weeks, a new SS via trade or FA, and Green at 3B. Gamel could be the left handed bat off the bench and Gomez a right handed bat. Lucroy and Maldonado are a great catching pair. Again not great but allows us to be competitive while not trading any of our prospects
  18. That is true. I forgot about that. But even set up guys (remember Linebrink) normally fetch a lot more than a no upside arm Linebrink was a type A Free Agent to be so whatever any team gave up had to be roughly equal to two comp picks. The Mets were just petrified of his option vesting and the only teams they could trade K-Rod to had to have an established closer in place so they couldn't be picky. You keep owning me in this thread I would still be surprised if we get anyone of Jimmy Nelson's value for KRod but I hope I am wrong
  19. That is true. I forgot about that. But even set up guys (remember Linebrink) normally fetch a lot more than a no upside arm
  20. How much of his contract did we have to eat last year? All we gave up was a no name, no upside arm. So I guess I am not expecting much. I would be very happy with potential utility IF or a young bullpen arm
  21. I would do back flips if we got someone with anywhere near that upside for KRod. I hope you are right.
  22. She will really just be using it for writing, internet and the occasional video to watch. She may upload pictures and video but no editing.
  23. It was hard to give up Lawrie at the time and it still hurts some, but he isnt having a good offensive year at all. His OPS (.734) is .73 points lower than ARam and he has negative value on the bases. His fielding sounds like it has been solid although there was some debate if his range factor was inflated because of shifts. He has had some error issues as well, but all in all he is solid fielding 3B. All that said I am not sure why it is so matter of fact that Lawrie is having a better year than Ramirez. Lawrie also is looking like his power from last year might have been a little bit of fluke. Also Braun was only a year older than Lawrie when he made it the big leagues. We will see what Brett Lawrie shows up next year. That will determine how much sleep I lose over the trade. Right now Taylor Green could put up Brett Lawrie offensive numbers if given a chance to play everyday
  24. Hardy would be nice but if Alex Gonzalez doesnt have a freak ACL tear we have a better hitting SS for less cost than Hardy. I wouldnt mind having Hardy, especially if you knew the Greinke trade was coming but since you didnt and there was what a year between the two trades.
  25. I know these Hardy threads are easy post when he is one of his hot streaks. I love JJ hence my screen name but he is not as good as some here make him out to be. His line for this year is now .216/.254/.373 which leads to an OPS of .628. Only 5 of 22 SS have a lower OPS than him and his OBP is dead last. Now Gomez hasnt been good but his line is better than Hardys this year
