  1. I'm very confident they'll beat IU. I think PSU has all the makings of a trap game though. Coming off a big win against IU, OSU on deck at home for first place.....and PSU has beaten Purdue and Illinois at home this year. They aren't a complete pushover. This teams losses to teams like Iowa keep me from being confident in any game, but if they play to their ability they win both those games. Then OSU is a whole different story
  2. I should be clear that I dont think Northwestern will make the tourney by the end of they year. I just dont think they know how to win on the road. But as of right now they have an argument to be in the tourney. Although they are getting rocked at Minnesota so that probably shows their true colors
  3. They already are right back in the title picture. At 5-3 they are half a game behind OSU, MSU, and Michigan. Like you said if they take care of business against Indiana at home and PSU on the road the Badgers vs OSU game would be pretty huge. It was a big win considering they couldnt hit a FT early and they were turning it over a lot. They held strong on the road and pulled away at thee end. Great game and great bounce back after that horrible game against Michigan
  4. Very true. I meant if they got to .500. I was thinking they only play 16 conference games for some reason. So, I would say they need 9 wins to get in, but I posted the different brackets. Those are probably the three most respected bracket predictors and they all had Northwestern in when they were 2-3 in conference play. The bubble is as weak as ever. Lunardi had a combined 16 teams from the Big 12, SEC, ACC and Pac 10 combined! That is a lot of openings for mediocre teams to get in this year
  5. If they make it any year this looks like the year. The major conferences are down - Big East isnt nearly the power it used to be, ACC isnt that great, Pac 10 is terrible, etc. That leaves more spots for weaker teams than normal Northwestern still has Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Purdue at homes. All games they will likely be favored in except maybe Purdue. They also have Minnesota on the road today and Iowa and Penn State on the road. 8 wins in conference could be enough. They could easily get there.
  6. Based on what?Lunardi has them as one of his last four inJerry Palm has them as an 8 seed. He even has Minnesota inCollegehoops.net has them at a 12 (one of the last 4 in) So I would say right now they are a likely tournament team
  7. Sorry, I can see how the comment was snide. His handler/mentor/sponsor then. No problem. Mentor is a very accurate word usage. I listened to a whole radio segment here in Minnesota where the guys mocked Hamilton for needing someone around him to help stay clean and it really annoyed me. You are a really good poster so I doubted it was your intent to bash Hamilton
  8. And that is just if Prince comes on a one year deal. Sign Prince going forward and you also lose any chance at locking up Greinke and anyone else.
  9. This may not be as far fetched as it seems, considering the fact that his babysitter in Texas is now employed by the Brewers.Roco I really like your posts but Calling Narron Hamilton's babysitter is a unwarranted and distasteful comment. Hamilton has had serious issues in his past and one time recently they popped back up. He has no real routine in his life, some many recovering addicts say helps immensely, so he is smart enough to have someone near him to help him make good decisions. And you belittle that? Seems out of line.
  10. Anything of substance in Tom H's "Closer to the Truth" blog. I apparently reached my 20 articles for the month.
  11. Three pointers falling at an even normal rate would make this offense look much better than it had. Unless you think this is really a team that will shoot 25% from 3 for the year the biggest bounce back this offense needed was shots starting to fall. Also Evans, Gasser and Bruiser were in the lane and down low a lot of the game. They got inside a lot more than normal and that has been a trend. Gasser has been going to the rim a lot more the last 3 games.
  12. Blowing out a team that just beat Michigan State is a positive. Seeing the offense start to click is a positive. Bruiser showing signs of life is a positive. Taylor finding his shoot in the second half is a positive. So yeah I am excited about the Northwestern game
  13. Apparently the Badgers offense looks good when they hit shots. Nice win for them tonight. 4-3 in the conference isnt so bad after that start
  14. He is more tradeable for sure but who is our 8th inning guy if we trade KRod
  15. With the teams that are rumored right now it looks really good for the Brewers. A first round pick for Prince and a sandwich pick would all us to gamble a little more on a high upside guy or two and still take a safer pick too.
  16. There is nothing elite about Gonzo's defense. He is better defensively than Yuni but that is about it. My vote is for him. This is just wrong according to scouts. The fielding bible had him as the 3rd best SS in baseball last year. He had one first place vote, one second place vote, and five third place votes. So out of 10 votes 7 were in the top 3. He finished ahead of Alcides Escobar
  17. If Braun used I think 4 is the most likely scenario. His body did not change like ARod or Bonds. He looks very similar especially for a guy who spends as much time in a weight room as he does. In the Lucroy and Marcum interviews talked about how much he worked out. both I guess he could have used all along but then how does he get caught at a time when he know he is getting tested. I mean in the playoffs it is guaranteed that you will be tested so it seems that if he was dumb enough to get caught then he would have been caught before. Steroids help someone recover from injury faster and Braun is a competitive guy so that is the scenario that makes the most sense IF he used.
  18. I wonder if that is still true. The market isnt huge for him. I would assume Seattle is out so it really looks like Texas and Washington. The NY market could mean huge money in salary and advertising. All athletes have pride to them so maybe 1B is a must but NY has to be intriguing. He would hit a ton of HR in that park I just want the first round pick and all three of those team give that. So I dont care where he ends up as long as it is one of those or even Toronto
  19. Interesting how that works sometimes. Although the Badgers wanted both and I would be happy if that would have happened. Looks like the Badgers are very high (if not the top) of the list for another big name recruit - 55th ranked (2013) Kyle Washington from Minnesota. It seems like Bo and his staff are in on a lot more big recruits right now.
  20. Well thats fair. I have a man-crush on good young pitching since it is so uncommon here in Milwaukee. I probably am too biased toward getting pitching since it has been so hard for this franchise.
  21. Sheets is the exception rather than the rule. He's the best 2-pitch pitcher of the last decade that I can think of. That's the ceiling without a 3rd pitch IMO, and he may very well end up a 3/4 strater. Trading Montero for that ceiling is pretty risky. I just don't think it's the slam dunk for the Yankees that a lot of people do. At all. I can agree Pineda for Montero is not a slam dunk but if the reports on Campos are true than I easily think it is a slam dunk trade. A top young pitcher in Pineda and Campos who is a top 5 prospect is a solid Mariners system seems like good moves. Heck it even frees the Yankees up to go after Prince if they want since Posada and Montero are now gone
  22. In what world is Noesi a better long term-option. He is older. Has worse stats across the board and was hit hard in the majors. I can only assume that non-M's baseball is Noesi's dad. I can see why M's fans would like the deal. They have a lot of pitching apparently, but as a poster above said I would have traded King Felix for a kings ransom before this move because they will not compete with the Rangers and Angels the next 2 years
  23. I knew someone would bring that up. Sheets had a 70 curveball. And Sheets was a #2 pitcher, with the exception of 2004, which is what I think Pineda's ceiling is. His home/road split is huge. His 2nd half was terrible. I'm not saying he can't be a very good pitcher, I just think he's being overhyped in this thread. Of course someone will bring it up because you made it sound like a two-pitch guy could only be a 3/4 starters. Sheets was a 2 at worst when healthy. Even if he ends up being a number 2 pitcher that is pretty solid. I would say his first half and strike out ability show his ceiling is higher than that. But what is Montero's ceiling? He wont catching so he is a 1B or DH who some scouts I have read said is projected to be a 30 HR hitter. His home/road splits are worrisome. The bad second half makes sense for a guy in his first full year.
  24. Yeah, he was pretty good. ERA+ was 103. I don't think he's nearly as good as people are making him out to be. He struggled as he saw teams more, which will happen to a 2-pitch pitcher. If he doesn't develop a 3rd pitch, I don't see him as anything other than a #3 or #4 starter. I'd much rather have Montero. I admit I don't know a lot about Campos though, and he could be a huge part of this deal. Ben Sheets was a pretty good pitcher with just 2 pitches
  25. Campos looks to be a very legit prospect compared to Noesi. I take pitching over bats almost every time if they are equally regarded players. Somebody asked about what would have we thought about trading Prince for pitching when he was in a similar place to Montero. Well the pitchers ranked around Prince his last time in BA's top 100 were Matt Cain, Justin Verlander, and John Lester. Not sure what I would think about any of those trades except Prince for Verlander is a no brainer. And in what world wasnt Pineda that good last year? He struck out more than a batter per inning. His WHIP was 1.09. 3-1 k to walk ratio. The top two similar pitchers at 22 were Josh Beckett and Roy Halladay according to baseball-reference. According to fangraphs his WAR was higher than Gallardo. Edit - I just read Campos was a top 5 prospect in the Mariners system. So a top young pitcher and a top-end prospect for a guy who will be a 1B or DH? That seems risky. Both pitchers could fail and Jack Z could win in this deal but right now it is not a trade I would have wanted Melvin to make. Unless I am missing something on Pineda. I know his home road splits werent good.
