  1. CBS Sports did a college draft type article where they picked who they would have coach their team and who would be their players and they also said what 5 high seniors they would pick. One of the 4 guys picked Dekker as one of his five. Top 5 in the country! The loss of Tokoto to UNC was lessened by how Dekker has exploded. This years freshman class looks better than the previous classes as well. As a true freshman Kaminsky already looks like he can play which is impressive for a big. Jackson hasnt played much but has held his own when in the game he is just behind three guys. The two red-shirts - Uthoff who was highly regarded (one service had him at 90) and Marshall looks to be the quick guard this team lacks. Now they could all flop but add in that group with Dekker, Koenig and some other recruits and I think the Badgers are heading in the right direction even if the next two years are a bit of a struggle
  2. I actually should have posted this name in my original 3 because he is my number one guess. Ron Roenicke
  3. I agree that the venting was because the players weren't good but it did go over the top. Loe is a good guess. I thought about him but I thought KRod would keep Loe from being put in positions he shouldnt be in in the first place.
  4. It seems like every year there are a couple players (sometimes very rightly so) that become the source of venting for brewerfan posters. As I look at this years roster I am struggling to see who is the favorite to become this years Yuni, Kotsay, etc. Here are the guys who I feel like are the favorites to become the least favorite 1. Aramis Ramirez - Former Cub. Injury history. Some view as the guy who is supposed to replace Fielder and whose contract cost us a chance at Fielder.2. KRod - Tendency to make things too interesting and that could blow up this year. Highly paid. And like Ramirez I think some feel his contract cost us a chance at Fielder3. Wolf - Had a very good year last year and could slip. I know this seems like a negative post but it is really just me seeing if we can predict ahead of time who becomes this years Yuni. Last year was pretty easy to predict, this year seems a little harder
  5. The demise of the Brewers farm system seems a little over the top. We lack bats but I really like our young arms. Peralta, Thornburg, Bradley, Jungmann, Lopez, Bucci, Scarpetta, Friers, Heckathorn and others have a chance to be a solid group of arms.
  6. Career ERA out of the bullpen: 3.19 (granted, only 62 IP, but that's still a relievers' season worth of data). That's with 61 hits, 22 walks and 67 strikeouts. He has a power arm for a lefty (even though his fastball is as straight as an arrow), he has a really good splitter, and he has a serviceable change-up. I don't think his stuff out of the pen is much of a risk at all at $1.3M or whatever it is and it may even be a bargain - it's his health I'm worried about. Your stats seem more up to date than the ones I posted about for Parra as a reliever. I agree with you that injuries are my only real concern with Parra at that price.
  7. When looking at Parra's numbers you need to sort it to focus on when he was a reliever. He was not an effective starter but is an effective reliever. Yes it is a small sample but that is what he will be for this team. We didnt have a lefty in the bullpen last semester and it hurt us. Here are his career stats as a reliever. ERA - 2.39 WHIP - 1.35 K/9 - 9.8 K/BB - 2.73
  8. If people get upset with what Prince signs for they are missing the big picture. The Brewers could not afford to sit back and wait until January or February for a guy they didnt think they were going to be able to sign. Due to how much Prince is still going to make we would have had to stand pat at SS and 3B (which some would have been fine with) and we still could have lost Prince. We probably would not have Ramirez or Gonzalez if we did that because they had other suitors.
  9. Nice move for the Reds. The NL Central is going to be better than analysts think this year.
  10. He is still pretty young and takes a good amount of walks. His lack of power over 69 games in the majors last year was surprising. I know SD isnt a hitters park but he didnt have much pop. Looking at his minors numbers I will chalk that up to being brought up too fast.
  11. Cashner is a much better prospect that Scarpetta. Cashner was a big name in the draft and has already been in the majors. He had some control problems his first year in the minors but after that he wasnt Jeffress bad. If he ends up a reliever it is a good trade but it sounds like SD will pitch him out of the pen for one year to build up his arm strength.
  12. I agree they look like an NIT team, but the next four are winnable games. Purdue and Illinois have struggled just like the Badgers and Nebraska and Northwestern at home are games they could win. They finish up with 4 games that are winnable. They need 8 wins to get to the tourney more than likely. If they play like they have been they wont get there. If they play like they did against UNC and UNLV they will get there. Taylor needs to be more aggressive early in the game
  13. While I dont want Ryan to go just yet, I think this team needs a shake up. Firing a coach after one year of being bad doesnt make sense. Especially when we have some of the best recruits in a while in the 2011-2013 class. Dekker and Koenig have a chance to be a really special pairing especially with guys like Uthoff and Marshall. They could all bomb but good coaches have bad years and this is one of those. It is really hard to watch right now. Of course you are hearing rumblings of people wanting Bo out. His team is losing. If this team somehow got hot and won 5 in a row (not likely) the rumbling would stop. Sadly next year looks to be even worse.
  14. Exactly! Theo is the greatest gm ever. We should appeal to Bud to move back to the AL instead of Houston. If Melvin made these same moves there wouldnt be half the love
  15. [quote author=SoCal Brew Crew Fan wrote: [/b] We can only hope they buckle under the pressure of Chicago sports talk radio and revert to their normal idiocy...but with their minor league talent, a real GM for once and a potentially large payroll, I can't help but think they are going to own the second half of the decade in the NL Central. What minor league talent are you talking about? Most of their prospects had rough years last year. They might have a had a good draft but they had a bottom half of the league system before that draft
  16. Young power arm (who was recently injured) for a young power bat. I think the trade has less risk for the Cubs since Cashner is coming off an injury so it is a win for them there. However, I usually side with the team that gets the young arm over the team that gets the bat. All in all it seems like a good deal for both sides. I know little about Rizzo but his minors number look good and his majors number look like a guy who was rushed. Cashner was one of the few promising young players near or at the majors for the Cubs
  17. But it is a move where you save no money because of what Volstad is projected to get in FA and Zambrano is obviously the better pitcher. Who thought Arizona was going to be any good last year? Zambrano makes them better than Volstad. They must just want their type of guys in the clubhouse or they see something in Volstad his numbers done indicate
  18. Oddly enough Gasser and Brust are supposed to be very good shooters. Bruiser was much better from 3 last year. Kaminsky can shoot well. Taylor can only shoot threes off the dribble which is really weird. I can see your point about needed to get to the rim, but outside of Tayler I dont see it happening. A month ago Marquette and Wisconsin both looked like they were heading for solid seasons. My how things have changed. Two home losses in a row for Wisconsin. Marquette lost to LSU, got blown out at home by Vandy and now just blew a 17 point lead to lose to Georgetown. Rough month for bball in the state of Wisconsin
  19. So they are paying all but 3 million and getting a number 5 starter back in return? Volstad doesnt bring much to the table. Gives up a lot of hits/walks and doesnt really strike people out.
  20. It proves they go through their due process and do not leak info whether it's positive or not. Manny Ramirez is a far bigger name nationally than Braun and he had 2 failed tests - neither of which were leaked, to my knowledge, ahead of time.Braun had just won an MVP, I would say he is a pretty big name. He is much more relevant at this point than Manny, at least during Manny's last failed test. It was a huge story for espn
  21. The only positive to your point is it looks like this years freshman and the next two classes have some of the best players Bo has recruited. Dekker is considered by some to be a top 20 recruit. He gets to the rim all the time. Bronson Koenig is right up there as well. They beat out UNC for Koenig. They both seem to get to the lane with ease. Not to turn this into a race thing but if their skin was a different color people would be even more excited about them. From this years freshman class, Marshall looks really quick. He is a Chicago kid. Traevon Jackson looks solid but more in the Jordan Taylor mold. Kaminsky is a typical UW big but moves well and Uthoff who is red-shirting is supposed to be the best of the class. Depending on how they round out the 2012/2013 classes it will easily be Bo's most athletic group. Dont know if it will translate into wins. Last night was way less about getting to the rim as at was missing open shots. They missed a ton of wide open threes and free throws. They actually drove consistently and picked up a lot of fouls but they couldnt hit shots. A team without many attacking guards who cant hit threes is going to lose a lot
  22. Melvin is undervalued by some of the more outspoken people on this board. I think numerous people here are convinced they would be much better GMs than Melvin. While Melvin isnt perfect, he has done a good job.
  23. Good point on 2009 and 2010. Consistent was wrong. Why is the fact that Jack Z couldnt draft a starting pitcher to save his life Melvin's fault? Now he definitely has some blame but Jack Z gets all the credit for drafting Braun, Prince, etc but no blame for his inability to find starting pitching. The cost of young pitching is astronomical in trades and that left the Brewers in a terrible situation.
  24. Attendance is up, team is consistently competitive, players actually are excited to come and play in Milwaukee. Melvin has done a good (not great) job as GM
  25. Tom H is reporting the Nationals are the favorite for signing Fielder. This would be great for the Brewers. First round draft pick and he isnt in the NL Central. It would also be a good move for the Nationals.
