  1. Isnt this the same thing that Tom H reported a month ago! I think everyone knows it is highly unlikely but what is a league official doing talking to anyone about this. Isnt that a violation of the rules that were posted way back in this thread
  2. What illusion? They've made the playoffs 2 of the past 4 seasons and in 2007 were an Aramis Ramirez homer away from ending tied for the division title.Sure, it's not an illusion, but...What about the farm system? They've absolutely demolished the farm system to get it this position. Yes, the Brewers managed to compete very well in the process, but how long will they keep it up? Eventually they'll have to replenish the major league rotation with the farm system. In this demolishing of the farm system who are these guys that you are sad to see gone. LaPorta hasnt been good. Brantley looks like a 4/5 OF at best. Jeffress cant throw strikes. Inman and Garrison didnt do anything. Escobar is an all-field, no-hit SS. Gillespie has a chance. Not mention guys like Bryson, Ford, etc. Lawrie was a big loss. Cain has a chance. Odorizzi has a chance. Those are the only 3 impact guys. I wouldnt call that demolishing the system. We have more pitching in the minors than we have had in a long time. We are missing impact bats but Lawrie was the only guy we traded who fits that list.
  3. I wouldnt say everything we hear is made up but the problem is we have no idea the validity of what we hear. We could hear something that is true but since the process is private (or was supposed to be) it is almost impossible to know what is true. The appeal process was never supposed to be public knowledge so they wont give us dates, they wont update us on what is going on and we wont know Braun's guilt/innocence until everything is finished. We will hear and read reports before then but we wont know what is true until the process is done and the facts can be made public.
  4. I have no idea who Terez Owens is but I would be happy if his inside source is correct
  5. It doesnt matter to me whether Melvin had any say in Yo or not. You still did nothing to explain why you credit Jack Z for everything but dont acknowledge his almost complete lack of success drafting pitching left Melvin's hands tied.
  6. Wainwright will be big but the loses of Edwin Jackson and Dotel will hurt as well. People act like it just Pujols who is leaving but these two played valuable roles down the stretch. Also the loss of LaRussa will probably be felt as well (though I dont know how many wins it really will cost). So what is better Pujols, E. Jackson, Dotel or Beltran, Wainwright, and Romero? I think the second group has far more questions with injury concerns for both Beltran and Wainwright. People here were acting like Ramirez was a bad signing because he is hurt a lot. Well we signed him for one more year than Beltran and he has been healthier than Beltran. If Braun is suspended I think the Cards and Reds might have a slight edge over us. If Braun plays those first 50 games I think the Crew are the favorites. We have a couple question marks in the lineup but not many. Our rotation looks really solid again and the back end of the bullpen is set
  7. I tried to post a bit ago and it didnt work so I am going to post a much shorter version of this. 1. The rumor was Prince for Cain. Not Hart. There is no way SF would have done that. 2. You make it sound like all our talent came from Jack Z but Jack Z left the pitching cupboard completely bare. He hit on 1 starter. Just 1! Gallardo is the only starter that he gave Melvin. Parra was his second best pitcher. Well Odorizzi could become second. Try to find 4 quality starters. Young starting pitching is really valuable and pitching on the free agent market is over-priced. 3. I completely disagree we overpaid for Sabathia or Greinke. I think you over-value our prospects quite a bit. I think the jury was out on Escobar - all glove no hit SS. Not many scouts were as high on LaPorta as this board (me being one of those people). Brantley was an ok prospect not great. Cain was never considered a top prospect. I think we over paid more for Marcum than Greinke. 4. I dont like every move Melvin has made. I didnt like trading Cole Gillespie. I didnt like the Carlos Lee trade centered around Codero and Mench. I didnt like the Hardy trade. I wanted Kevin Slowey, guess I was wrong too. But you make it seem like he lucked into a talented team. With a limited payroll and no pitching talent in the minors I think he has done well Edit - Sorry if this debate shouldnt be in this forum.
  8. Great deal for the Cards. Injuries are a huge risk with Beltran but the contract is short and there isnt a ton of money on it. Last was a healthy year for him and he missed 20 plus games. The two previous years he played 81, and 64 games. Obviously, since he is going to the Cards he will be healthy all year and he will put up monster numbers. Wainwright coming back is huge but they also look lose both Octavio Dotel and Edwin Jackson who played important roles down the stretch. I think this signing makes them the favorite but they have serious question marks. The health of Furcal, Beltran and Wainwright. Whether or not Berkman continues with similar numbers from last year. This a team that was an Atlanta collapse from from missing the playoffs and they lost their best hitter and their 3 starter and one of their top bullpen guys
  9. Nationals just got Gio Gonzalez. Wonder if they will get back in on Prince. A rotation with Strasburg, Zimmerman, and Gonzalez with bats like Prince and Zimmerman could be very impressive
  10. That looks great to me. Outside of a trade of Morgan for a reliever this 25 roster looks solid. I disagree with Bucksman about the Cards being the favorite in the division. Their lineup takes a huge hit with the loss of Pujols and I doubt you can expect Berkman to put up numbers like last year. They get Wainwright back but they look to lose E. Jackson. Dotel was also a big part of their bullpen down the stretch. They will be good but I dont see them being as good as last year. We will have a drop-off without Prince but I think Ramirez, Gonzalez, Gamel can produce similar to Fielder, McGahee, and Yuni. I wouldnt worry too much about Marcum. Looks like he wore down at the end of the year. Greinke sounds very motivated to bounce back. Wolfe will probably drop some. I think Narvy is what he is and if he struggles Estrada has shown potential and Peralta is their waiting.
  11. Not to mention the Nationals would give us a really nice draft pick for Prince, so I am rooting for them (or Toronto)
  12. I wonder if this could make them players for Prince again? I know they are not supposed to be in on Prince but locking up Prince to go with a rotation of Gonzalez, Zimmerman, and Strasburg would be a solid start. Especially with Zimmerman, Morse and Werth.
  13. I love when people act like they know who was available in a trade and then trash a GM for not trading for said players. No one know if Marcum and McGowan were available. McGowan was the 48th ranked prospect before the 2006 season. It is probably safe to assume he wasnt even on the table for a bat like Overbay and maybe Marcum was available but who knows. How do you bash a gm for not trading for a guy who may not of even been available.
  14. I think you are overstating how savvy Epstein is in FA. Carl Crawford and John Lackey's ridiculous deals show you he doesnt just get guys at his price.
  15. After seeing Yu go to Texas (at least the bid part) I think Prince ends up in Toronto. Toronto has a better team than Seattle and with a new Wild-Card being introduced looks to have a decent shot at the playoffs. He and Bautista could be terrific and they have young guys like Lawrie as well. They have a good rotation and they are smart with draft picks. Although they would lose a pretty high pick for Prince so maybe their love with draft picks takes them out of it. I would really like 2 first rounders
  16. Sign this guy and try to get a prospect, middle infielder or reliever for Nyjer. You still have Gomez if Aoki falls flat on his face
  17. Is there anyway if what pe and others have described is the case that Braun' suspension could be reduced? Or is it 50 no matter what
  18. Can we stop pumping this misinformation? He has an .808 OPS in the 5-hole and an .850 OPS in the 6th hole. Considering his career OPS is .821, I'm not sure where this idea comes from, other than everyone remembering his injuries and horrid slump in 2008.Did he say he didnt like hitting 5th? That has been posted before but maybe it is false
  19. Tom H actually clearly spelled out in his blog but the espn guys do a terrible job with it.
  20. To borrow a poker term, now they are pot committed. I can't imagine them throwing away $2.5 million and never making an offer. According to Tom H, the Japanese club would give the Brewers the money back if they dont sign Aoki.
  21. If we sign Aoki I will be excited but at the same time I dont trust Japanese players to replicate their numbers. Ichiro seems like the exception. Fukudome might be the best of the rest and he was okay but not great.
  22. Moving Hart only made sense when we didnt have any pitching. He was about to cost a decent amount of money and was up and down for a while. Now he has become more consistent and we have pitching. No need to trade him
  23. Grandel looks to be a really good prospect at catcher Alonso put up a .943 OPS in limited time last year and Boxberger has had filthy numbers in the minors but is just a reliever. Volquez was bad last year. Latos is very good pitcher so it looks like a good get for Cincy
  24. Can you explain to me what it means? You have had to explain pretty much all of this to me http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  25. An interesting provision of the agreement related to that is: 4. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the Program, either Party may disclose publicly details of a Player’s test results, testing history and/or the Player’s challenge to discipline imposed pursuant to Section 8 below to the extent necessary to respond to any inaccurate or misleading claims by that Player that could undermine the integrity and/or credibility of the Program. http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/pa/pdf/jda.pdf Now that might explain the real reason Braun is himself not making the statements attempting to discredit the results of his test, if he did it would free MLB to talk. Braun's defense would probably rather play this out in the court of appeals and not the media. It is much more controlled environment. The 24/7 sports media would make it a nightmare to try to defend themselves publicly as opposed to just having to do it in the court of appeals.
