    I have noticed that pitchers such as Ashby, Megill, or back when Devon Williams was pitching for the Brewers, they were less reliable pitching on the second day of back-to-back games. I don't know if Ashby warms up differently in the bullpen that causes him to be less reliable on the second day. It also depends on how they are told to warm up. There could be "get loose," "start getting warm," and "get hot." They are all contributing factors. Even so, Ashby can be lights out, but when he falls, he falls hard.

    Goodman was not very impressive this weekend on the defensive side. Not sure how interested I would be.

    While I think someone like McCullers is not having an anxiety attack over being DFA'd, I think he still wants to perform. He is at the end of his career and, as we have discussed with Woodruff, most likely wants to perform well. If not, then why did he come back from injury? That requires hard work for sure.

    Lots of interesting thoughts. It seems like I have seen something similar to: Lara should play every day, and Vaughn shouldn't hit for him. Vaughn should play, but he shouldn't hit for Lara and should play for Bauers! Bauers is raking (or at least he was), so now that he is in a slump, Lara and Vaughn should be playing every day. DFA Bauers! (nobody has said that... yet) Here is an honest question: how many games would it take of every day playing to determine if the young player has earned his spot? Hypothetically, Lara (or whomever) would play every inning of every game for X games.

    There you have it. The Brewers can put the press clippings of the "best farm system" in place of where a World Series trophy could be. Even with "selling" tier 2 prospects, the Brewers would most likely be near the top as far as being the "best farm system". I don't want them to give up the farm, but c'mon...

    Obviously Bob Uecker had a unique relationship with the players. Do any other former players have a similar relationship with the current players? Vinnie, Tim, etc.?

    There is one variable that is very difficult or impossible to model (especially for the grown men crowd). I call it the Clubhouse Coefficient. The Clubhouse Coefficient is made up of underlying values that make up a atmosphere. This includes each player's approach, how they interact with each other, and certain goals. I have heard many Brewers say in interviews that Murph wants them to be the "best version of themself." There is so much in that statement. Many on this board complain about someone like Sal Frelick and how he doesn't hit enough home runs. Perhaps that isn't the best version of himself. Does that mean that he shouldn't ascribe to hit more home runs? No. The goal is get the players to find out what they do and do it very, very well. Perfect that portion of "themselves" and then add on additional items like hitting tanks. Imagine how a shorter player would react hearing every day, "you need to hit more home runs" vs. "you hit the ball hard, your homers will come." Or, "let's work on squaring up the ball better" vs. "hit more dongs, dork!" There are so many things that we middle age dudes cannot understand. Even those that have played at a high level can understand the concept of the Clubhouse Coefficient, but that mysterious value is different for every clubhouse and can change annually, or even during the year. It appears that Anastasio, Arnold and Murphy have kept that number high.

    Joe Ryan (has another year of control after this year) Reid Detmers (has two more years!) Luke Weaver More generic: A front-line starter (Ryan, Detmers, or maybe Holmes) A longer reliever or back of the rotation starter (Weaver, or maybe Ray) Spot closer or 1-inning guy... like Josh Hader...
