  1. The chancellor needs to understand that in today's environment, the two are somewhat symbiotic. If the new chancellor gets a good athletic director, then he/she won't have to worry. Signed, Donna Shalala
  2. I turned on the game early and thought they had started turning the corner when it was 2-0. Then I saw PSU had only 3 shots on goal. Uggh...
  3. Janicki still gets me nervous. He has been playing better defense, but his offense is lacking. He does seem to be hustling more, though.
  4. I think the bottom line is that it is football. It is the most profitable and visible, so they have to have a different trophy. Before the current trophy, they had something that was much bigger with a crystal football at the top. I believe that was used during the BCS bowl era. The crystal football was prone to breaking when dropped... https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1148094-alabama-bcs-trophy-30000-crystal-football-accidentally-destroyed
  5. Finally saw the new version of The Running Man. I really really enjoyed it. I am a big fan of the original movie and also Richard Bachman's story. I saw some of the same threads between the two movies. I was waiting for somebody to say, "Sign here, victim!"
  6. The exact same thing happened with my hip. Of course, it helped when he showed the pits on the ball of my hip.
  7. I'd be willing to take a flier on Jimmy Leonhard.
  8. Dude... make sure that doesn't happen again... ... says a guy who has only been to a dozen games in the past 35 years. 🤦‍♂️
  9. During the onsides kick against the Bears, I figured Packers wouldn't recover if they had a guy with the oversized helmet on. You know... to take from the "boinking" against Seattle. As a side note, every time I see those helmets, I have this strange urge to play the Wii. Maybe it is because those helmets make players look like Mii avatars.
  10. In the post game presser, Gard mentioned how Boyd is learning how to play off of two feet. He is becoming a more well-rounded player as opposed to putting down the shoulder and driving to the left side.
  11. #2 from Rutgers reminds me of Side Show Bob.
  12. Best time to get a game misconduct -- at the end of the 3rd period 😉 MSU knows how to be goony...
  13. To add to the argument -- remember that over 50% of all luxury tax (Competitive Balance Tax, or CBT) goes to the players for pensions and benefits. There is also a $3.5MM off the top for player benefits. The remaining money goes into the Commission's discretionary pool. From my friend Copilot: Under the current MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement: A small fixed amount (e.g., the first ~$3.5 million each year) goes to player benefits (e.g., health plans, pensions). About 50 % of the remaining CBT revenue goes to player retirement accounts and other benefit plans. The other ~50 % of the remaining amount is placed in a Commissioner’s discretionary fund, which is then distributed to non-CBT teams (often small-market/revenue-sharing recipients) based on factors like local revenue growth. So if you break total CBT receipts down roughly: Player benefits & retirement — a majority of the net proceeds after the fixed first slice. Small-market/under-threshold teams — a share of the remaining CBT via the discretionary fund. This means players as a whole receive a significant portion of CBT revenue, often more than what small-market clubs receive directly. There is no way that the players will give up their 3.5M off the top nor the 50% of the luxury tax. Now, increase the revenue sharing? Baseball is screwed. I know two players who were in the minors. One of them was on track to make it to the majors while the other one needed help. They both ended up retiring because of heart conditions. What are they getting from this pool of money? Zero. Yes, they never played in the majors, but did participant in the baseball hierarchy. If a club is going to sign them, I would like to see them get some type of pension package, too. Since the players have so much money, perhaps they would share a pittance with those who were in the minors?
  14. I thought it was funny how Morris said he was put in for defensive purposes and then has a terrible foul with 24 seconds to go. Curse of the commentator!
  15. We don't get downtown too much to eat. We are trying to expand our horizons... Ann's Italian Restaurant in Hales Corners on 108th / Forest Home is very good. They have some of the best thin-crust pizza around, although it is pricy. The lasagna is awesome. Ricardo's in downtown Greendale is good, too. We have driven by it a lot, but haven't stopped there. I hear it is very good. We also like Los Mariachis Mexican restaurant on Layton just east of Loomis. Before that, we would go out of our way to hit Señor Luna in New Berlin on Calhoun by the railroad tracks. That had / has been a staple for a very long time. Some pricier steakhouse options are Carnivore downtown, and the Steakout on Loomis and College in Greendale. Both remind me of Flemings in Brookfield, or Morton's found nowhere in Milwaukee. I would put Carnivore at the top of the list. We might need to have a separate thread for wings... 😉
  16. Same here... and my lawn is in major shambles. Sod in piles, holes in the ground where they shouldn't be. If they are not going to fix it in the spring / summer, I'll take 10 years of 1G fiber to compensate... 🤔
  17. Sounds like Fubo might be in the running... https://awfulannouncing.com/local-networks/main-street-dazn-deal-dead-fubo-rumored-new-bidder-nba-nhl-prepare-shutdown.html
  18. I would like to see a history on the ballparks / stadiums in Milwaukee. My late father knew the Borcherts, but that was after the stadium was removed and the Braves played at old county stadium. I don' t know where the old Milwaukee Brewers played before they became the Orioles.
  19. McManus makes the kicks and it is a different story. Period. LaFleur is not the issue here.
  20. There was a timeout in the first half where Gard must have ripped them a new one. The next trip down the floor, the Badgers were moving the ball around the perimeter (mentioned by the play by play team) and stepped it up on defense. That was the turning point. Different people stepped up for sure. Sure, Bieliauskas hit a bunch of 3's in the second half and that was HUGE. However his defense on Mara might have been even more of a factor. Yes... he got played at the beginning of the game. As time went on, Mara was not as much of a factor as I thought he would be. I do believe the refs did have an impact on the game, but probably not in the way that we might expect. When the Badgers started to play more aggressively in the first half, I was expecting the zebras to be blowing the whistles a lot. That didn't happen. In the second half, there were more "nickel-dimers" that were called along with swallowing the whistle on some obvious Michigan fouls. The Badgers just scored. Like we said earlier this week -- if they hit their threes, they can beat anybody. Also, there wasn't as much standing around on offense. There was more movement on the five-out... and maybe less of the five-out. I hope the Badgers can keep up the momentum. Everyone drink to the first quad 1 win of the year!
  21. Harlan is one of the best in the business and Raftery is a trill to hear behind the mic (at 82 years young!). Hummel on the other hand... he just simply doesn't like Wisconsin. You could hear it during the UCLA game, too.
  22. I think the moneyball reference is a great one. I think Wisconsin's new philosophy is: Wisconsin doesn't have much talent, so I'll use the "300-mile radius" plan to recruit players If there are some Wisconsin kids that have pride in their school, that is great, but that won't be our primary focus Money talks and that is what will bring in quality players. I am still skeptical. You still need to have a coach that is going to connect with these players. From what the reddit thread said, Fickell needs to work on that. Also, not every player is perfect so how is the coaching staff going to help the players improve? I was a little surprised that Hilton decided to come back. Maybe that is a sign. I certainly hope that they turn things around. I have scars from my days in the band from '87 - '90. Some of those scars were ripped open this year. It would be cool if Fickell said, "I know a lot of people have not renewed their season tickets. If I were you, I would get them now because we are turning this ship around." This would mimic Alvarez's quote. I hope it works.
