  1. Hardy was an all-star SS, who also played gold glove defense. McGehee has done neither. Nor was Hardy putting up those numbers in the midst of a crew pennant run. FInally, Hardy was not batting 5th in the lineup in that slump year (2009) You can make an argument McGehee should be benched You can make an argument that we should try and let him play through it. There is zero justification for him batting 5th
  2. Betancourt is and will remain the worst SS in MLB as long as he's in our starting lineup. The whole "pride thing" really is quite dumb. If Melvin acquires Hardy, and the Brewers make the World Series, or even win a playoff series, who is going to remember that Melvin traded away Hardy two years ago in a total "bush league" move? Nobody. Winning fixes everything. Given his close relationships with many current Brewers, i doubt Hardy would hesitate to come back. If anything, he could come back and play well to "show Melvin" how absolutely stupid Melvin was to trade him for garbage in the first place. After that, he can sign a 5/75 contract with the Yankees. Melvin has made some outstanding moves (CC, Greinke, Morgan, Braun/Weeks extension, etc...) That said, Hardy's trade for garbage is by far Melvin's worst to this point
  3. 2 Thoughts 1) Love the sweep and three game lead! 2) The Twins offense is bad! Very bad! Mauer is not in sync at all, and Morneau didn't look that way either in the year. Doubtful the Twins finish with a winning record despite their hot streak. Their offense is simply the worst i've ever seen. Imagine ours without Braun and Fielder this year.
  4. Normally, my loyalties are tested during this six game stretch, but after our sweep of the Cardinals and the Twins collapse to 20 games below .500, i figured this year it would be easy to root for the hometown Brewers over my first love the Minnesota Twins. That said, the Twins are just playing out of their minds right now. Will it end in Milwaukee? A team that was left for dead a few weeks ago is now only 6.5 games out of their division lead. What is scary is that this run has happened despite an absolutely pathetic display from their offense. The Twins have always found success as a result of good pitching and defense. Their pitching and defense were far below average in April/May, but for whatever reason have been on fire in June. I really think 2011 is the Brewers year, but given that the Twins always seem to get hot for the series against the Brewers (2010 not withstanding), i fear that losing 4 or 5 of 6 could put us back into a funk.
  5. This next week makes me really nervous. The Rays are sending stellar pitching at us, and the Twins are white-hot
  6. Why is Loe still on this team? He is beyond awful
  7. Sorry guys, but i've had it with McGehee. This might be our one shot in 40 years to make the World Series, and we have two pathetic players (YuBet and SlowGee) wasting space on the roster. If we lose Casey on waivers, i could really care less right now. If Casey brought anything at all to the table, atleast he'd be contributing, but right now he's an automatic out 4 times a game and is bound for atleast 1-2 awful defensive plays per game
  8. It seems to me that the Orioles need pitching- pretty much across the board. I would think that you would need to start with a top-tier type prospect, and add a mid tier type project with nasty stuff. I wonder if a team would give us a top-tier prospect and a mid tier prospect for Gomez?
  9. I'm pretty sure Marcum has exceeded expectations by a wide margin. If you would have told me that Marcum would finish the year 16-8, 1.20 WHIP, 3.50 i would have been very happy. He is on pace for atleast that many wins, a 2.60 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP If Marcum, Yo, and Greinke all finish with an ERA below 3.50, i will be very very happy
  10. We need to get this done. This is the no-brainer move of the century
  11. His OPS would be 8th in MLB with Stellar Defense. If he doesn't play everyday, we still have Clutch. YuBet is below replacement level. If Hardy were to miss significant time, we'd have plenty of players (Yu Bet, Billy Hall, etc... to fall back on)
  12. Pujols is batting 50 points below his career average, his OBP is 70 points below his career average, and slugging is 140 points below his career average. He is no where near back to a normal pace. He's hit a few home runs during his "hot streak", but that doesn't make up for his poor start. Casey's problem is that he bringing nothing to this team right now: 1) his bat stinks 2) his defense stinks 3) his base running stinks I have no problem saying that is is unquestionably the worst hitter in our lineup right now. If we are serious about contending, we need better production from 3B. His errors/poor defense have nearly cost us multiple games in the past week. And that is coming on top of ZERO production on offense
  13. Now 65 ABs for Casey without an extra base hit. Three more errors (or awful plays) yesterday. McGehee really needs a few days to focus and chill
  14. I know some people cringe at the thought, but I have zero problem having Yo, Greinke, and Marcum locked up for $40M combined (annually). That does mean that we can't afford $9-10M for our 4-5 starters, but i think finding cheap guys for the backend of the rotation is much easier. Fill in Braun, and 1-2 $10m/per types, and we will need to have a few "pre-arby" guys on our team to make it work consistently for under $100M, but i think we can do it. To Borrow Barry Alvarez: It takes 5 great players: Braun, the Big 3, and one of (Hart, Jon-Luc, Weeks)
  15. All in all an excellent outing for Marcum (assuming he's done after 7) 7 IP 5 H 2 ER 0 BB 7K
  16. I have every confidence in Marcum through 7... but the Reds' Offense scares me and its always nice to have some insurance runs when we get to bullpen time
  17. Ugh, Braunie... was looking for a 2 run jack there. We need 5 runs minimum tonight
  18. I am thinking "W" everytime Marcum pitches, but every stellar outing he has, I feel like i'm adding a million dollars to the contract Marcum will reach. I still think 4/40 or 4/50 is doable, but if Marcum finishes with an ERA below 3.25, with 15 wins, a solid WHIP, and stellar K/BB ratio, i think the minimum deal goes to 5/75 in the offseason. I'm willing to go 5/75 for Greinke (even with his rough start), though i'd prefer to keep Marcum for 3-4 years, and no more than 12-13 per
  19. and just like that Yuni makes a great play. That said, time to DFA Betancourt. Heck, i'll even take Chuckie Carr at SS
  20. McGehee has 1 extra base hit in his last 54 at-bats. Ouch! Batting .185/.241/.240 in that stretch with a HOF worthy .481 OPS Small sample, but Casey has just been a black hole in our lineup the past 2+ weeks. Why anyone pitches to Prince is beyond me
