  1. Just follow the conferences various teams are in - if a team is from the SEC, pollsters do all kinds of gymnastics to get and keep them in the top 25 early in the year and skew schedule strength leading up to the start of conference play so it's more difficult for good teams from other conference to leapfrog them when they start beating up on each other in October. In the AP poll, an unranked Florida team coming off a 7 loss season with a new coach jumped to 12th!! over a pile of teams that won their first game after beating what was likely an overrated Utah team at home (The Swamp in early September is a rough place for anyone to earn a road win for a non-conference opponent, no matter how good or bad the Gators are). Oregon did get drubbed by Georgia, but getting thumped in essentially a road game against one of the best two teams in the country Week 1 shouldn't lead to them dropping entirely out of the top 25 after being ranked 11th in the preseason poll - that's exactly what happened to them because they're not an SEC team. It'll never happen, but there shouldn't be any preseason polling done that establishes a pecking order for the CFP committee.
  2. If anyone in the front office or his teammates weren't perfectly okay with his decision, do you honestly think they would say so publicly given how anyone questioning the cost/benefit of ANY Covid-related restrictions on society, the workplace, public places, etc. was universally demonized by 99% of the press? Particularly in spring/early summer of 2020 when not quite enough time had passed to prove many of those policies ineffective/pointless at best?? I'm not going to villify or praise Cain for making the decision he did to opt out during that Covid-shortened season, no matter what his reasoning may have been - to each their own, I will give Cain a hard time if he is trying to argue that his decision to opt out in 2020 was the start of the front office not respecting him enough as a "team leader". To me it seems like he's looking for a way to pile on to the current negative sentiment towards the front office for making the Hader trade, without looking at onfield production and contract status of himself and the other veteran players he hints at being disrespected (Hader included tbh) as the primary reason these personnel decisions were made. Players reaching free agency love saying, "It's a business" when they are about to play wherever they get the biggest contract from. Well, how Cain's career ended is also part of the same business - and he should be perfectly okay with that side of it, too.
  3. Gazprom, unfortunately - might be tricky to find a way to get money invested with all the sanctions, but that hasn't stopped Russia from getting its oil and gas sold. Much of western Europe is in a really bad spot in terms of being incredibly dependent on receiving energy from outside its borders. I hope they get some things figured out quickly - otherwise they are in for a world of hurt this winter.
  4. So basically, the 6 major conference champs and the SEC West every year that Notre Dame doesn't wind up with 2 losses...hooray
  5. Thrilled they've gotten Misiorowski's feet wet professionally no matter what the results were. He's going to get an offseason to develop physically and come into spring training next year ready to dominate.
  6. It's too bad we had to trade that 58 OPS+ bat away for an Escobar rental, otherwise we'd have that production in the middle of our order for the next 5 years.
  7. So nice watching Hiura go with and lace a 2 strike pitch up in the zone to right field
  8. It also helps that they're not good football players...I recall that draft that they picked 11 players and had a roster full of holes for them to quickly make an impact - and they stunk. I think Darrisaw is going to be a player if he can stay healthy....but boy the rest of that draft class was pitiful.
  9. So what? To me, Hiura has proven enough to start every game down the stretch against RHP and if he needs a day off, it would come against a lefty starter due to those reverse splits. FWIW if he doesn't need a day off, I don't think there are enough better options on this roster against LHP to just auto bench Hiura. either. What's instead been happening is Hiura is in the lineup on most days when a lefty is starting despite his reverse splits and sitting way too much against RH starters. The Brewers are caught between a rock and a hard place when a lefty is on the mound no matter what they do with Hiura when the rest of their RH hitters aren't performing up to snuff. It's been an organizational wart for several years that needs to be resolved this offseason.
  10. You start Hiura as well more often than not and have McCutcheon in the lineup. My point is at this stage in the season, there's no reason to sit Hiura against a right-handed starter.
  11. I get that Hiura strikes out a ton - but he's got to be the DH in the lineup pretty much every day, with the exception being against a LH starter if there are issues also getting McCutcheon in the lineup as an OF. A guy leading the roster in OPS shouldn't be a square peg to get in the lineup almost everyday no matter how many strikeouts he racks up.
  12. And McCutcheon is 3 for his last 22 with 8 Ks and no extra base hits.... Urias is 3 for his last 35....
  13. Agreed - however a righthanded starter didn't stop Hiura from starting the game last night on the bench.
  14. That 51+ OPS was over 197 plate appearances, so basically 1/3 of a season. Hiura was indeed terrible in 2021, but this is his 4th MLB season and the 348 plate appearances he got his rookie season as a midseason callup are STILL by far the most he got in a year. Keston just needs to be in the lineup
  15. That had alot to do with two ACL injuries right when he should have been establihsing himself as an everyday player I do see the swing similarities between Gamel and Mitchell - Mitchell is just so damn athletic on top of it
  16. IGTs go downhill when the team isn't that much fun to watch play and onfield results are uninspiring, because there just isn't as much consistent interest. When the Brewers were consistently awful and expected to be awful, IGTs were almost therapeutic, comic relief while also 'playing the long game' with hopes that at some point the MLB ship would turn around and we Brewer fans would have a winning team to follow. Now that we have a winning organization, the expectations have muted looking for silver linings game to game and those threads always shade towards pessimistic. As this season winds down and we start seeing young players get their feet wet and if the team as a whole puts together a hot streak, hopefully there are more points of view from different posters who largely haven't been chiming in. I do think there's a difference in these threads this season compared to previous versions of BF.net simply because there isn't a large enough volume of different posters weighing in a handful of times throughout the course of a game to get to 11-12 pages...they've devolved into 4-6 posters going back and forth and rehashing tired arguments/disputes from a bunch of other threads that almost makes you wonder if everyone posting on the thread is actually watching the game.
  17. Not really - He didn't start tonight and probably would've sat till late if Rowdy didn't leave injured, didn't play on Saturday, got 1 garbage AB in a game against the Dodgers on wednesday, and didn't play on the 19th at Wrigley. The week prior he rode pine more games than he appeared in.
  18. It shouldn't be an either-or, particularly because McCutcheon has been decent a good chunk of this year when other parts of the lineup weren't....McCutcheon hasn't had an OPS over 0.700 against RHP since 2019 and mashes LHP. Hiura, despite small sample size alerts, hits much better against RHP compared to lefties. It's a natural DH platoon situation that hasn't been allowed to happen consistently and it's really frustrating.
  19. can't wait for the next time Hiura K's in 2 straight AB's and the vultures are back out saying it looks like he's at the start of another cold stretch - if he would get 500 ABs Hiura might K 200 times but he'd hit 35 bombs to go with it. Hiura cannot be starting games on the bench against RHP - they have to find ways to keep his bat in the lineup.
  20. If he'd locate his other two he'd be just fine....glad he got out of it though
  21. maybe if Narvaez sets up right down the middle, Williams would actually paint a corner with a fastball instead of grooving it?
  22. I think that ball was still on its way up when it hit the stands...
  23. I see what you did there - jinxed into a game winning Keston hit for his next AB. This is the same story repeating itself - Hiura isn't playing everyday at the MLB level and it's impossible to know whether it's the sporadic playing time (particularly against RHP) leading to hitting struggles or not. He also continues to be the one hitter on this roster that gets jerked around so much - last I checked he's still got the highest OPS on the team or is at least right where Renfroe currently is.
