  1. There was a graphic going around awhile back showing the highest paid state employee in every state & like half the map was college football coaches with another dozen or so states where it was a college basketball coach instead. Well, that's just representative of the "above board" $$ paid to government employees - politicians' main incomes are most certainly not applicable in that regard. I do think it's outrageous for university systems to cry poor and beg for additional tax revenue at federal/state/local levels when such huge portions of their budgets go towards paying the salaries of people who have nothing to do with higher education along with financing/maintaining all the facilities those extracurricular programs need to have in place in order to be functional - not to mention all the bell and whistle facilities added to campuses to try and attract students. I get that in the case of major college football/basketball programs their revenue streams likely generate plenty of funds to pay the inflated coaches salaries (and oftentimes remaining contract amounts of their last 1-2 coaches that were fired), along with their facilities....but those athletic programs should in no way be linked financially to the university they are part of. My point is, Brian Kelly shouldn't be deemed an employee of the state of Louisiana because he coaches football at LSU - he should be an employee of LSU Football, Inc., its own private entity.
  2. Far as I can tell the crux of the current CBA negotiations that may lead to a lockout have more to do with the degree of how much pain is inflicted on small market teams in terms of setting payroll salary floors to enable the luxury tax threshold to be dropped, reducing years of team control on pre-free agency players, and likely increasing the speed at which pre-free agency players are paid closer to their actual on-field worth (basically eliminating a season of pre-arby team control). I just don't see potential meaningful positive changes in the new CBA to the structure of how MLB operates that will benefit small market teams to "even the playing field" - lockout or no lockout. The longer there's labor uncertainty, the more it hurts small markets compared to big markets.
  3. Not sure why the trade market would be heating up towards the end of the year as trades aren't allowed to be made after the lockout either. At least among players on the 40 man roster. This is based on my assumption that after the holidays, owners and the players union come to their senses and come to terms on a new CBA - I'd imagine December is going to be used for both sides to bash each other, but they've got to both realize already that a lengthy lockout that actually impacts spring training/regular season games would be disastrous to both of them.
  4. Free agency wise, if signings aren't executed by the end of November there's going to be a gap before more deals are made depending on how CBA negotiations progress (or crater). I'd expect the trade market to heat up towards the end of the year/early 2022, which is where the Brewers probably would be much more aggressive.
  5. What is it about Baker Mayfield that leads fathers of grown men playing for the Browns to criticize him on social media? In the case of Hunt's father, it's too bad he wasn't more concerned about how his son treats women...
  6. Maybe Riley saw that Okie state's program has surpassed OU and got out before taking upcoming lumps over the next 2-3 seasons before the luster has worn off his status as everyone's "it girl" as the Sooners crept closer to the SEC and further away from CFP autobid status in the big 12.
  7. the QO would've been much higher on an AAV amount than what Garcia just signed - this deal gives him some longterm security, but the last deal he signed with the Brewers made it obvious he's willing to bet on himself with shorter term contracts. The only reason Avi wouldn't have signed to get paid closer to $20M for a single season in 2022 and dip his toe back into free agency next offseason is concern of losing the shot at a 4+ year contract due to his age getting another year north of 30. I think it's much more of a coinflip whether he'd have accepted the QO or not, and that's actually a risk this Brewers organization couldn't take given the fact they already have a ton of payroll dedicated to outfielders in 2022 even without Garcia.
  8. I'd be hesitant giving a QO to any FAs that likely aren't worth that amount of $$ for a season, when there's still a chance that the 2022 season is going to start in a lockout. Not necessarily because they'd have to pay that player during a lockout, but because having that much of your payroll dedicated to a short term signing this offseason really would limit anything else the Brewers would do in terms of trades or other FA acquisitions until there's more CBA clarity. Best of luck to Avi down in Miami...
  9. Dislocated shoulder. Doing an MRI tomorrow to determine the extent of any additional damage. Not real surprising that the guy is seemingly fighting injuries every year. Zimmer has run him into the ground. Gotta remember the heavy tread on the tires of Cook at FSU, also....guys his size don't stay healthy as RBs getting 20-25 touches weekly in the NFL. Ask Aaron Jones.
  10. This Badger team would be lucky to be bowl eligible if not for a stud 17 yr old who decided he wanted to try being a running back going crazy for 7-8 weeks. Allen was obviously not 100 percent today and this offense went back to being trash against a team they are more talented than.
  11. Sad thing is even if they lose today, if they beat Georgia they'll still coast into the playoff with 2 losses. And Georgia will still get a spot. And thats all because Bama stayed in the top 5 after their 1st loss, when they should have dropped closer to #9 or 10 at the time. I'd disagree Bama coasts into the playoffs if they beat UGA next Saturday with 2 L's....cincy, a 1 loss Michigan team, and honestly notre dame would be more deserving IMO to go in with Georgia. Get where you are coming from though.
  12. Obvious PI missed again
  13. Just begging for a play action on 1st down....gophers with 8 in the box and shooting gaps every time
  14. Lots of blitzing the house into each other's backs and not getting home, and then leaving undersized corners on their own behind it - recipe for big plays
  15. So does wisconsin just always leave corners on an island?
  16. Oline having a very bad day at the office
  17. Even with a comeback win today, Alabama has no business being in the top 4 next week....and that was even with OSU losing today. Their 2021 resume is a joke.
  18. Yeah, I just don't get the hype...especially with a salary cap this deal makes no sense
  19. As a Packer fan, I love absolutely everything to do with how the Bears' org is run
  20. Agree in a way, but losing the best LT in the game is a bigger deal than just saying "next man up" and expecting similar great results. The Packers had great health last season but that injury really hurt them at a vital position against a team with a great pass rush. This season, injuries to key starters are all over the field on both sides of the ball - and they are keeping key players out a very long time if not the rest of the season and playoffs. The 2010-11 Packers team had tons of guys go on IR but their core guys stayed healthy enough to all be around for their run starting in late December. That team also was able to overcome all those injuries because #12 was on another planet with his level of play - Rodgers is still great but I don't think he's got the mobility anymore to evade a pass rush at will and basically do it all himself when need be. Plus despite the rankings up to this point, this year's defense is not nearly as sound a unit as the 2010-11 D was - particularly with Z. Smith, Alexander, Gary, etc. out with no signs of imminent return at this point.
  21. Despite overall great team health in 2019-2020, injuries are going to cost this team 2 titles, starting with #69 going down in practice last new yrs eve. They beat Tampa with him, no question in my mind. Maybe they find a way to heal up late this yr and make a run, but losing Jenkins is crushing in my book to an already shaky oline with Bakhtiari still seemingly not ready to play. Such a shame...
  22. Had their chance at a turnover and didn't make the play. Well deserved loss by this defense today
  23. I smell a turnover coming....call me crazy but it's the only way they win this game
  24. Defensive clinic on both sides today, lol
  25. Doesn't matter now because the Packers failed to stop the 2 PT. Go for two themselves....not even kidding considering Crosby's struggles and the way the defense is playing
