  1. Well, that settles it - mightaswell sell right after the AS break if fangraphs says it's so. They've been so accurate of late predicting the NL central
  2. This is outside the box and probably unrealistic given that the Mets just dealt for him, but what about Edwin Diaz? He's having a bad year for the Mets, but if the price is ok I'd like to take a shot at adding him to the back end of the Brewers' pen. Easy to forget how good he was for the Mariners last season, and he doesn't reach free agency until after the 2022 season. Wonder if the Mets and Brewers line up as trading partners - a Wheeler/Diaz package is pretty intriguing to me as it would give the Brewers a dependable starter that could get on a dominant roll as he approaches free agency and a controllable late inning reliever with closing experience.
  3. The Brewers have been very firm in controlling Hader’s rest. There are days he’s flat out unavailable. I just don’t believe he’s ever going to be over worked. Totally agree pen arms would help the team, just has no bearing on Hader’s usage. It will if Brewers feel like he's all they have down the stretch. I am sure they are going to be careful but then again how many games will that cost us?? Hopefully Stearns makes it a mute point. But it won't if the brewers don't take that approach and continue trying to rely on their lesser pen arms because they know that the second they actually start overusing Hader, he starts becoming ineffective and the whole works becomes a dumpster fire. The same stuff was said about Haders use at this time last season when he actually had alot more appearances and innings logged and he was strong through the NLCS in late October...I trust they know what they are doing with Hader, because they've proven it by actions. This whole hypothetical is dumb to hash and rehash every IGT...
  4. Far as I know he's still with their AZL development program. I recall they were working with him last season extensively on a repeatable delivery - I don't think there's anything injury-related, but they obviously don't feel it's time for him to log extensive professional innings yet either. Still a lot of ways Lemons can continue developing without showing up in Brewers' affiliate box scores - and there's actually lots of time for him left in 2019 to make some starts in AZL/Rookie ball/fall instructionals. I'd imagine they would hope to get him geared up for Helena or perhaps even low A starting in 2020, when he'll still be just 21 - he was drafted in the 2nd round because he had a huge arm and he had projectable physical traits that could make him a frontline starter. That said, Lemons is still a 6'6" gangly lotto ticket who might amount to zilch, because he was the opposite of a polished pitching prospect out of high school.
  5. Dubon isn’t up because they view him as a potential starter, not a utility player. Makes more sense to keep him down getting consistent playing time. They could trade him, but that isn’t why they are keeping him down. Unless they plan on dealing Arcia or turning him into a utility IF, Dubon doesn't have a spot on the Brewers roster as a starter - that's why I think it's quite likely he's being dangled as a trade chip at this year's deadline. I'm sure they'd like to keep him, but if they want to upgrade their MLB pitching by July 31 significantly I think he's probably going to be heading elsewhere to start his big league career.
  6. If that's the case (and it very well could be), they wouldn't want to call Dubon up at all whether he struggles or rakes at the MLB level - the value would be holding him in AAA until a deal is done to keep his MLB service time clock from starting.
  7. I've been wondering the same...could actually really use the gio they got for the first handful of starts he gave them Also, not sure if I like a 2 inning save attempt by hader here...hope he can get it done And as I hit submit...cue the routine flyball that leaves to center....sheesh
  8. Diaz has had a phenomenal season in AAA so far. He deserves it. He's well on his way to being a top 100 again. At least Brinson is floundering. You don't want the team you traded with to go 4 for 4. compare Diaz's 2019 in AAA to Saladino's, and you'll soon realize a TON of minor leaguers are having a phenomenal 2019. Including Diaz in that trade meant the Brewers were committed to Hiura at 2B instead of Diaz since their development timeframes were essentially identical - I'll make that same decision every single time. Until all these prospects actually become productive everyday MLB players, it's way too early to heap praise on them. In fact I'd say the odds are still stacked towards only one or possibly 2 of these four prospects developing into an MLB starter that has a career that reaches through the 1st 6 years of team control and into unrestricted free agency. That pretty much means the Brewers robbed the Marlins of one of the top 5 players in the entire world through his prime, who is making less than most veteran #5 starters.
  9. I wouldn't rule out any of the NL Central clubs getting hot enough to win the division - there is very limited separation between 1st and last, and none of the teams are playing well enough to just win 22 of their next 30. And BTW, the cubs' offense is just 0.008 OPS points better than the Brewers and has scored a grand total of 20 more runs than them. While I agree they are probably the better offensive club, it's not like they are overwhelmingly better.
  10. I think Saladino over Dubon is simply MLB familiarity at this point in time - Dubon will eventually be called up or who knows, potentially traded. The 40 man roster now sits at 39, yes? Wouldn't surprise me at all if part of the Perez move was done to free up that roster spot for adding a MLB player via trade in the not too distant future.
  11. With Hiura up, the Brewers have everyday RH-hitting 2B and SS options. While Perez can also play some OF, the roster on this team is such that he's never going to get extended playing time at those positions. While he could also play 3rd to give Moose a break, particularly against lefties, he just hasn't hit well enough. Saladino can also play 2B, SS, and 3rd - despite his shaky defense at times in 2018, he's still a highly regarded defensive player and he was OPS-ing 0.950 in AAA before being called up. If Perez was hitting, he'd still be on the roster - an overall mid 600's OPS that includes a low 0.600 OPS against lefties, and he's been awful in June. That just isn't good enough through half a season for him to retain his value to this roster. Just because he has a lot of gloves doesn't make him a great option at most of those positions - and an even worse one off the bench as a pinch hitter.
  12. The answers to both of your questions is yes - the trouble for both teams is if they get in bidding wars over a specific pitcher with another organization that has a deeper bench of well-regarded prospects. Then they're going to have to give up several from the top of their prospect lists to get a player they want, which would cause plenty of handwringing. With the NL as muddled as it appears to be past the Dodgers, I'm not sure if that is going to lead to a bunch of teams trying to outbid each other for specific trade targets, or if it could actually suppress the trade market a bit and have everyone sitting on their hands until the last minute and wind up with quite a few guys perceived to be on the trading block staying put. It'll be an interesting 5 weeks for sure, seeing that the waiver deadline is also now set up for 7/31. Despite the overall pessimistic preseason rankings the Brewers' farm system received, it seems like there are actually quite a few Brewer prospects having solid years on both the pitching and position player fronts. Without a doubt there are also Brewer prospects having bad 2019's, too. The Brewers' organizational prospect strength is still A+ and below, but they also continue to have guys with lower talent ceilings develop to the point of being able to contribute at the MLB level - it's definitely not the focal point of a minor league system, but their AAA, AA, A+, and A affiliates have a combined record that is 38 games above 0.500.
  13. June has been a slog for the Crew compared to what I think we were all hoping with the month's opponents, but honestly if I'm a cub fan I feel even worse about their current situation. 2 of their 5 starters on the dl, basically no starting pitching depth to draw from, Lester is scuffling of late...they actually need to lean on Darvish alot to get through the next 4-6 weeks in good shape. At times they can still mash, but their pitching has taken a big hit over the last couple weeks. They've had decent success with a few youngsters they just brought in to shore up the pen, but let's see how they settle in once there's a decent amount of mlb scouting done on their approach.
  14. With all the pirates games on their calendar I mentioned back in may the brewers chances to win the division hinged on how well they played them...so far so good!
  15. And how is that play by Bell not obstruction/baserunner interference? Dude tripped a guy in foul territory trying to reach 1st...I know it's not intentional, but that should have given pina the base there. Most teams' fans probably think this, but I really feel like if the human element in umpiring was completely removed from the game, the brewers probably improve 5 wins recordwjse as a club by default.
  16. And also stop the stupidness of making them bunt with 1 out and a guy on 3rd...just let them swing away!!!
  17. Regarding Yamamoto, check back with me after he makes his first all star game appearance, and then I'll tell you he'd only need another two AS appearances and a Cy Young to even consider feeling bad about losing him in a deal for prime Yelich.
  18. Had Schoop performed last summer like he has with the twins this year, this wouldn't even be worth mentioning, because he never would have been released last winter and the brewers would have another righty bat to play 2nd and ss this season. Plus, the brewers got villar for his solid 2016 season - giving up snead for what they got out of villar while with the brewers is fine, it's the trade that returned schoop that is disappointing because schoop just didn't perform while with the brewers. Happiest that villar didn't take that extension after 2016, actually..
  19. Should have been on there a week ago, but instead they got to play shorthanded and now still have a wounded player on the active roster
  20. replacing the backup catcher is probably roster decision priority #10 or #11 at this point. They'd be much better off getting quality offensive 1B production without having to put their starting catcher there when facing a lefty starter. Aguilar not getting the start at 1B last night after a 2 hit game is both confusing and disheartening - what good is prioritizing roster depth/flexibility if your 1b-only righthanded power bat doesn't play in a game against average at best lefthanded pitching?
  21. I think the only players I'd even consider something like this would be young position players primed to be MVP-caliber talents, who either are still pre-arbitration or are signed to very friendly contracts. Guys like Acuna Jr., Vlad Jr., Bellinger perhaps, maybe even Wander Franco of the Rays. Pitchers carry too much injury risk, and other veteran studs are either too expensive or aren't as good as Yelich.
  22. Can't wait for the retroactive IL stint cain will get in the next few days after having the brewers play shorthanded for a week...no reason that shouldn't have happened 4 days ago already.
