  1. Dang it, that was crushed right into the wind
  2. Yup, next it will be rbi and size of the chain to pop, ala domingo ayala...
  3. Live broadcast espn has with the camera angle has hendricks pitches moving like crazy today. He is getting a ton of sink and tail on his sinker/two seamer. I don't see alot of cookie pitches thus far from hendricks, and weather conditions might actually play into hard hit balls in the air today.
  4. Dang it, that flyout to center is gone some days at wrigley
  5. Now we are talking
  6. Baez is a human rusty gate in the wind so often, swinging at everything...it's impressive to me that the brewers managed to walk him close to 10 times - probably why they pitched him so well - don't throw strikes and let him get himself out.
  7. That sure looked like a balk by hendricks there. Cards are keystone cops ing this game
  8. Jeez cards, they are in a prolonged state of dumb baseball They make me me hate them even when rooting for them to do something against the cobs.
  9. I actually disagree - based on pitching matchups this is probably the Cubs' best chance for a W, and the Brewers best chance for a L for their remaining 3 games. I'll be happy if the Brewers are still 1 game back, and enthusiastic if they pick up a game. In fact if the Brewers find themselves tied with the Cubs after tonight, I'd put their chances at winning the division outright at higher than 50% even with only 2 games remaining. Also, the odds stuff is kind of dumb, captain obvious stuff at this point in the season. Of course it's about 1/3 with only 3 games left for the team trailing by 1 game. Not worried about probability percentages any more when it's literally two teams competing for a division within a game of each other with 3 games left. That's not really how it works. The formulas are a lot more complicated than "there are 3 games left so the odds are 1/3." 538 is the more generous of the two major forecasters and Fangraphs has us at less than 1/4 with I think is probably closer to correct. I do agree if end tonight tied, we become the favorite and I think the odds will reflect that. Fangraphs had the Brewers pegged as mid-70s win team this year. 538 had the brewers as barely over 0.500. Sorry if I'm a bit skeptical of their methodologies to come up with these percentages/projections. All my point is that, at this point of the season, using a statistical model to predict outcomes for two competing teams in a 3 game series is pointless.

  11. Took some time to read through the history of this thread, particularly posts made around 4-6 weeks ago - most of the divisional hopes were very tempered, giving the Crew a realistic shot only if the Cubs played sub-500 ball down the stretch. Cubs have gone 14-11 so far in September, far from having a bad month...but the Brewers have still made 3 games up on them in the standings on a 16-7 month heading into the final weekend. The Crew are just straight rolling right now! Awesome that there will be day Cub/Cards games to track today and tomorrow before the Brewer game starts each night - to know whether it's time to make up ground or at minimum hold serve. With the pitching matchups for today/tonights games, the Brewers would do well to stay at 1GB heading into Saturday. If they can at least hold serve tonight, I think their chances of at least playing a game 163 for the division are better than 50% with Mikolas and Flaherty going for the Cards on Saturday and Sunday against Hamels and Montgomery for the Cubs.
  12. Since lester basically makes more per year than the entire brewer rotation combined, that's a low hurdle to clear. Fact is Lester got lucky a few early inning abs with runners on everywhere didn't send him to the showers much earlier when he was battling control. 0 runs is nice no matter how you get there, but that was far from a solid start just by looking at him pitch. I think his back issue from early September is still lingering...
  13. Lester's night should terrify cub fans about what he will do in the playoffs...gave up no runs but that doesn't look like a game 1 starter
  14. Maybe IDK. My guess is because people now think they might be there to clinch and/or win the division. or win a big game to take the division lead etc. But yea could also just be people are fired up after the last 3 days, who knows. Probably just Cub fans buying up tickets again, since that's the only way the Brewers can sell out according to Hamels.
  15. I've thought for a few weeks that the result of this game would determine who ultimately wins the division between the brewers and cubs. If the two teams head into the final weekend tied, huge advantage brewers. If the cubs are up one, I think the most likely scenario is a game 163 for the division. Hopefully the pirates get after them tonight! All brewers can do is take care of their own business and hope the pirates and cards give the cubs fits...
  16. part of me wants the Pirates to take the lead here...part of me wants to take this game to around 16 innings and have the Pirates win it at around 1:30 am.
  17. Yes! For all the scenarios we as brewer fans are coming up with about best playoff matchups/opponents, I'm guessing the rest of the nl playoff field is viewing the Crew as the team they want no part of to reach the world series Such a sweet feeling to sweep a series in stl at this point of the season, clinching a playoff spot and dramatically damaging the cards' chances at the same time
  18. What has really turned me off watching football is the fact that television broadcasts all need to have "officiating experts" check in to every game at least 4 or 5 times from NY, LA, or wherever their studios are while various coaching or turnover challenges are occurring, or to discuss why a horrible penalty call may have been correct given some obscure rule or overreacting point of emphasis. Watching NFL football is looking more like watching a soap opera / WWF-style form of entertainment, with undue influence of on-field play by off-field reviews and officiating that at times just feels biased at worst or randomly inconsistent at best. The whole concept of "review is ok to make sure they get it right" has completely gone off the rails, because the rules governing the game that the reviews are supposed to abide by are just whacked. When the biggest leaguewide storylines are related to penalty debates and injuries instead of actual football, the game suffers. I've completely tuned out to non-Packer games.
  19. Looked at some of baez's splits...the brewers have pitched him very well this season...no HRs and a sub 700 OPS for the season series. Yelich should win mvp, and it will be even more of a slight after the brewers win the division over the weekend.
  20. If both CO and LA stay hot out west, the bigger takeaway is that the cards would be in danger of missing the playoffs altogether with another brewer win this series...that makes them play like mad against the cubs this whole weekend to give the brewers a very real chance at the division.
  21. Since the brewers have like 57 guys in the clubhouse now after September callups, probably a good thing to get a guy with the flu out of there before half the team comes down with it right before playoff time Guessing that is the issue with jj...
  22. It would be fitting to hang a crooked number on this clown after the bottom 6th
